2023 G League draft: OKC Blue selects Lance Thomas, Logan Johnson

2023 G League draft: OKC Blue selects Lance Thomas, Logan Johnson.

The OKC Blue, the G League affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder, made a pair of selections during Saturday’s 2023 G League draft.

The Blue drafted guard Logan Johnson with the No. 9 pick and forward Lance Thomas with the No. 26 pick.

Johnson played five college seasons from 2018 to 2023 at Cincinnati and Saint Mary’s. The 24-year-old averaged 8.7 points, three rebounds and 1.9 assists in 146 career games. He went undrafted in 2023.

Thomas played four college seasons from 2017 to 2022 at multiple stops including Louisville, Memphis and South Alabama. The 24-year-old averaged 3.3 points and 2.1 rebounds in 79 career games. He went undrafted in 2022.

The Blue’s 2023-24 season is set to start on Nov. 10.

2023 Lakers draft prospect profile: Logan Johnson

A look at Logan Johnson, a guard from Saint Mary’s College of California.

With each passing day, it is looking more likely that at least one of the Los Angeles Lakers’ key guards will leave.

D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves, their starting guards, as well as key reserves Lonnie Walker IV and Dennis Schroder, will be free agents. It will be next to impossible for them to keep all of them on new contracts, and it isn’t even clear if they want to.

Therefore, Los Angeles may have to look to the 2023 NBA draft to replenish some of that backcourt depth. It will have the No. 17 and No. 47 picks, and it will likely also take a look at some undrafted free agents.

One player the Purple and Gold recently brought in for a workout is Logan Johnson of Saint Mary’s College of California.

Report: Georgia reserve WR tears ACL in spring practice

WR Logan Johnson, who spent last season on the scout team, tore his ACL in practice — per the Athens Banner-Herald.

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Logan Johnson, who spent last season on the Bulldogs’ scout team, suffered a torn ACL in practice on Saturday, per the Athens Banner-Herald’s Ryne Dennis.

Johnson, a former three-star receiver out of Bogart, Georgia who was a walk on in the class of 2021, is expected to undergo surgery on the torn ACL in the coming weeks.

Via the Athens Banner-Herald:

Johnson will apply for a medical redshirt this coming season after serving on the Bulldogs’ scout team while redshirting his freshman year.

“He’s in good spirits,” Ivy Johnson, the receiver’s father, said. “He laid there and knew he was hurt pretty bad. It was sad for Logan.”

Logan Johnson will soon have surgery, but sports medicine director Ron Courson wants to give the knee a couple weeks before going under the knife.

Johnson played alongside Georgia quarterback Brock Vandagriff at Bogart’s Prince Avenue Christian School. A shifty receiver, Johnson stands at 5-foot-6 and weighs in at 155 pounds.

In 2020, Johnson recorded 68 receptions for 1,161 yards and 19 touchdowns from Vandagriff, helping lead his team to a 13-1 record and the GHSA Class A-Private state championship.
