LSU running back Logan Diggs enters the transfer portal

Logan Diggs led all LSU running backs with 653 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.

LSU’s running back depth will take a hit in 2024 as [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag] has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.

News broke of Diggs’ decision on Friday, but with the deadline to enter passing on Tuesday, that choice would have been officially made earlier this week at the latest.

A transfer addition this offseason from Notre Dame, Diggs provided a major boost to a running game that struggled outside of [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] in 2022. While Daniels led the team in rushing once again with more than 1,100 yards, Diggs led all running backs in 2023 with 653 yards and seven touchdowns on 119 carries while appearing in 10 games.

Diggs will have one more year of eligibility at his final stop.

It’s a significant loss for the running back room, which is likely set to return at least one veteran still in [autotag]Josh Williams[/autotag]. True freshmen [autotag]Trey Holly[/autotag], who redshirted, and [autotag]Kaleb Jackson[/autotag] should see an expanded role, and 2024 signee [autotag]Caden Durham[/autotag] will likely also have an impact.

Former Notre Dame running back Logan Diggs on the move once again

Interesting that the former Irish back is leaving BK behind

It wasn’t much of a surprise when former Notre Dame football running back [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag] followed [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] to LSU.

The bigger surprise came on Friday afternoon when Diggs entered the transfer portal again. The Louisiana native had a very productive season for the Tigers, running for 653 yards and scoring eight touchdowns. The production wasn’t quite what it was during his final season in South Bend, but his touches diminished as the season wore on.

Over the last four games, including the Tigers’ ReliaQuest Bowl victory, Diggs had 20 carries for 68 yards. His low point came in the final game: He had one rushing attempt and gained a single yard.

It will be interesting to see where Diggs lands for his second home in as many seasons.

Brian Kelly talks about the impact of Logan Diggs

Logan Diggs carried the ball 118 times for 652 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.

[autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag] transferred to LSU after being with [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] at Notre Dame. He immediately became the featured back for the Tigers and he got better as the season went on. Diggs carried the ball 118 times for 652 yards and seven touchdowns as well as catching eight passes for 82 yards.

His best game of the year happened when the Tigers needed an offensive spark the most. LSU went on the road to play the Missouri Tigers, who finished with an 11-win season by the way, and Missouri was giving LSU a run for their money. Diggs rushed 24 times for 134 yards and a touchdown to help lead LSU to a 49-39 win.

Kelly was asked about the impact Diggs could have against Wisconsin and here is what he had to say.

“Yeah, I think it’s very important,” Kelly said per On3. “Look, I think we all know that his physicality, his ability to play injury-free helped our football team immensely. When he’s banged up, obviously we’ve turned to other players that we think very highly of, as well. He looks good in practice. He’s got a great attitude. We expect him to be the kind of player he’s been when he’s been healthy for us.

“We’re really fortunate that we’ve got I think 20 out of the 21 players playing in this game. That allows these guys to go out and finish on a high note. So it should be fun to watch him play.”

Hopefully, we get to see a lot of Diggs in the bowl game.

LSU RB Tre Bradford expected to enter transfer portal, per report

LSU’s deep running back room has seen another departure.

The transfer portal doesn’t officially open for non-graduate football players until Monday, but a high number of players have already announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal.

Included in that are several players from LSU’s deep running back room. [autotag]Armoni Goodwin[/autotag] and walk-on Corren Norman plan to enter the portal, and now they’ll be joined by [autotag]Tre Bradford[/autotag], according to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

A four-star recruit in the 2020 class, Bradford initially transferred to Oklahoma briefly following the 2021 season before returning to the Tigers, though he wouldn’t officially rejoin the team until this summer. He appeared in just one game this fall, starting the opener against Florida State.

In that game, he saw four carries for one yard and had a catch for 55 yards, but he was quickly supplanted by [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag], [autotag]John Emery Jr.[/autotag], [autotag]Josh Williams[/autotag] and others in the running back room.

In three seasons at LSU, Bradford appeared in seven games with two starts, seeing just 16 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. After a winding career with the Tigers that was marked by a departure and eligibility issues, Bradford will look for a fresh start elsewhere.

LSU running back enters the transfer portal

LSU’s deep running back room took a hit on Monday.

An LSU running back has entered his name into the transfer portal.

[autotag]Armoni Goodwin[/autotag], a junior from Birmingham, Alabama, has suffered injuries during his freshman and sophomore seasons, and he hasn’t touched the field this year for the Tigers.

LSU has turned to [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag], [autotag]Josh Williams[/autotag], [autotag]John Emery Jr.[/autotag], [autotag]Trey Holly[/autotag], [autotag]Kaleb Jackson[/autotag] and [autotag]Noah Cain[/autotag] to carry the load in the backfield. Goodwin is eligible to be redshirted this fall since he has not appeared in any games, though it remains to be seen if that will happen.

During his two years on the Bayou, Goodwin appeared in 13 games, making three starts, and he carried the ball 61 times for 332 yards and five touchdowns. He had a much better season as a sophomore than as a freshman which led to Goodwin being a prime candidate for playing time this year but he has yet to see the field.

Brian Kelly expects RB Logan Diggs to play vs. Texas A&M

The Tigers have been without their top running back in the last two games.

LSU has been without its top running back in the last two outings as [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag] has dealt with what coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] has only described as an upper-body injury.

Tigers fans got some good news on Monday, however, as Kelly said that Diggs is with the team and expected to play on Saturday as LSU hosts Texas A&M in the regular season finale.

“He was with the team. He should be available, he’s been dealing with an upper-body injury,” Kelly said. “He’s in good stead with the team, so he was with us at the hotel, he was with us throughout. He may have popped inside for a little bit, but he was with us throughout the entire week of preparation.”

Kelly added that Diggs went through a workout last Thursday ahead of the Georgia State game to try to play, but the staff ultimately decided to wait another week.

“He tried diligently on Thursday, we put him through a pretty good workout on Thursday,” Kelly said. “We just felt like again, with the depth that we have at that position we wanted him, he’s a guy that initiates contact, he’s a physical runner. We wanted him 100% for A&M.”

The Tigers will be closer to full strength as they try to finish up the season at 9-3 once again and avenge last year’s loss to the Aggies.

Injury Report: LSU RB Logan Diggs DOUBTFUL vs. Georgia State on Saturday

Logan Diggs is unlikely to suit up for the second week in a row.

As LSU prepares to face Georgia State in what it hopes will be a tuneup game on Saturday night, it looks like the team will be shorthanded at running back once again.

Starting tailback [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag], who missed last week’s game against Florida with an upper-body injury, was listed as doubtful to play in Saturday’s game against the Panthers by coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] on Thursday.

Diggs, a transfer addition from Notre Dame, has been a revelation for the Tigers’ run game this season. He leads LSU running backs with 113 carries and 635 yards, and he’s added six touchdowns on the year.

Assuming Diggs isn’t able to play, LSU will then likely turn to [autotag]Josh Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]Noah Cain[/autotag], as well as true freshmen [autotag]Kaleb Jackson[/autotag] and [autotag]Trey Holly[/autotag]. [autotag]John Emery Jr.[/autotag], who saw quite a bit of action in Diggs’ absence last week, was lost early in the game with a torn ACL that will cost him the remainder of the season.

BREAKING: LSU RB John Emery Jr. out for season with torn ACL

It’s a disappointing end to the season for the fifth-year senior.

The Tigers suffered a major blow to the running back room in Saturday’s win over Florida as [autotag]John Emery Jr.[/autotag] exited with what [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] said he feared would be a significant injury.

That turned out to be the case as Emery suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season, Kelly said on Monday. Emery was seeing action alongside [autotag]Josh Williams[/autotag] in the absence of [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag], who missed the game and is questionable heading into Saturday’s game against Georgia State.

It’s a disappointing end to the season for the fifth-year senior who has had a winding journey in his time at LSU.

A former five-star running back, Emery saw rotational action in his first two seasons before missing the entirety of 2021 due to academic suspension. He was suspended to start both the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and he was away from the team for much of the past offseason focusing on academics before returning in the fall.

Without Emery, LSU will turn to Williams, [autotag]Noah Cain[/autotag] and true freshmen [autotag]Kaleb Jackson[/autotag] and [autotag]Trey Holly[/autotag].

LSU’s leading rusher expected to miss Florida game, per report

While LSU will have their star QB under center to start the game, their best RB looks like he’ll miss the action.

The kickoff between Florida football and the LSU Tigers is just hours away and the updates continue to roll in as the teams make their final roster assessments ahead of the Week 11 matchup in Tiger Stadium.

One of the most notable updates came via On3’s Matt Zenitz, who reported on Twitter late Saturday morning that LSU’s top running back Logan Diggs will miss the game against the Gators. The transfer from Notre Dame leads the Bayou Bengals with 635 rushing yards this fall.

The news is in stark contrast to ESPN’s Pete Thamel’s report earlier that Heisman Trophy candidate Jayden Daniels is cleared for the game despite sustaining a concussion last weekend. The Tigers are favored by two touchdowns but any hit to the offense could make it a closer game.

The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET in Baton Rouge on Saturday, Nov. 11, inside Tiger Stadium and can be watched on the SEC Network.

The Tigers’ top running back is unlikely to play on Saturday night.

LSU fans got the news they were waiting for on Saturday morning as it was announced that quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag], who was listed as probable with a head injury earlier in the week, will make the start against Florida.

It wasn’t all positive news on the injury front, however. Running back [autotag]Logan Diggs[/autotag] was listed as questionable on Thursday with an upper-body injury, and on Friday, his status was downgraded to doubtful.

Saturday morning, On3’s Matt Zenitz reported that Diggs is not expected to play.

Without Diggs available, LSU would instead turn to [autotag]Josh Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]John Emery Jr.[/autotag], as well as possibly true freshman [autotag]Kaleb Jackson[/autotag] and veteran [autotag]Noah Cain[/autotag], as well as production on the ground from Daniels, who led the team in rushing last week against Alabama.

Diggs has been a nice addition to this offense, which struggled to find production on the ground outside of Daniels last fall. If he’s unable to go, LSU will likely have to lean more heavily on the passing game than it already has been.
