Phillies, Nationals players appear at Pennsylvania Little League World Series game

Phillies and Nationals players attended the Little League World Series game ahead of the 2023 MLB Little League Classic.

As part of the 2023 MLB Little League Classic, Philadelphia Phillies players took advantage of the game’s late start time on Sunday to cheer for some youngsters representing the home town in Williamsburg.

Phillies and Washington Nationals players were at the Little League World Series between the Pennsylvania and Rhode Island teams. A group of Phillies players were shown cheering for the Media, Penn. team, including a celebrating Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner after a fifth-inning RBI double hit. According to Sports Illustrated, the group of Phillies and Nationals players signed autographs for the kids and other spectators.

Despite tying the game in the fifth, Philadelphia lost 7-2, according to the local CBS outlet. They have been eliminated.

The MLB teams were there as part of the MLB Little League Classic, which was launched in 2017. The Phillies and Nationals will play Sunday night at Muncy Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field, a game that will air on ESPN.

Little League tweeted out some videos of interactions between players and fans, including Garrett Stubbs telling a fan seeking an autograph that the young athlete has to sign his jersey as well.

There were some very wholesome moments for kids who hope to one day be in the same cleats as these professional players.

A Little League World Series ump called 2 of the worst strike calls you’ll ever see

This was so bad.

We’ve called out plenty of umpires in Major League Baseball for their horrible umpiring on ball and strike calls.

But the Little League World Series doesn’t have a strike zone showing up on broadcasts, so maybe it’s a little harder to figure out.

That said, the ump for Japan and Cuba had a strike zone so generous, you didn’t need a little box on screen to tell you he was bad.

One call was SO outside. The other? It was so inside the batter flinched! It nearly hit him! The catcher reached out and didn’t frame it because there was no way to!

Check out these calls and fans calling the ump out:

Hawaii was so dominant winning the Little League World Series, it won on a walk-off ‘10-run rule’

Look at all the happiness from the Hawaii players!

In one of the more commanding runs in Little League World Series history, Hawaii (West Region) capped off another championship over Curacao (Caribbean Region) on Sunday afternoon.

The young men from Hawaii were so good over their time in Williamsport that they routinely paced ahead of their opponents. Hawaii went undefeated over six games, scoring double-digit runs on four occasions. And when it came time to secure the state’s fourth-ever Little League World Series over Curacao in the championship game, the young players from Hawaii left no doubt.

By the bottom of the fourth inning, it was already 12-3 in favor of Hawaii. Then Kama Angell — four-for-four with a homer and six RBIs (!) — hit a shot to left field with two players on base. By the Little League’s rules, Hawaii essentially ended the game on a walk-off in the fourth inning by virtue of having a 10-run lead:

Man, look at all the pure joy from the players from Honolulu! Even if they cruised to the Little League title — ending with a 13-3 win — it definitely wasn’t as easy as they made it look. A job well done all around to this spirited group of young players in a wonderful tournament.

Texas Little Leaguer stunningly robbed a sure-fire home run while losing his hat

Catches don’t get much more clutch than this.

The 2022 Little League World Series continues to show off moments of incredible talent from youths across the world.

On Wednesday, Texas (Southwest Region) and Pennsylvania (Mid-Atlantic Region) were playing in an elimination game as the championship looms ahead this upcoming weekend. With Texas holding a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third, it seemed as if this deep shot from Braden Hatch was destined to crest the wall for the tying home run.

Outfielder Corey Kahn, however, had other plans, as the left fielder went as far back as he could possibly go to snag the ball out of the air for a stellar home run robbery. Not only that, during Kahn’s glorious catch, he lost his hat in the process!

Talk about dedication right there! What an incredible catch to save a home run and keep Texas ahead in the game.

Little Leaguer Luis Garcia unleashed an absolutely epic bat flip after his LLWS home run

Bat flip of the year?!

While there will always be traditionalists who try to limit personality and showmanship in baseball, the younger generation of ballplayers certainly seems to have the right idea: Baseball is supposed to be fun.

That was on display Tuesday at the Little League World Series.

During his fourth-inning at-bat of a scoreless game between Nicaragua and Panama, Nicaragua’s Luis Garcia launched a no-doubt, three-run home run to left field. And he took in the moment in a way that would make Major League bat flippers like Ronald Acuña Jr. and Tim Anderson proud.

Garcia watched the ball’s entire flight over the wall and with both hands on the bat, he launched it straight up in the air. The trot was just as good.

Amazing.

It’s not too often that these kids get to play baseball on a stage like the Little League World Series, so you just love to see players like Garcia make the most of the whole experience. Fans certainly enjoyed the celebration.

Hot mic catches Little Leaguer calming down pitcher, says ESPN just wants some drama

Whatever it takes to reassure your pitcher

Kids and their wild imaginations always lead to some great moments.

Especially in sports. And especially when they’re caught on a hot mic trying to pump up a teammate. Saturday’s Little League World Series elimination game between the Midwest (Iowa) and Northwest (Washington) gave us another great moment.

Nursing a 6-3 lead with two outs in the sixth and final inning, Iowa’s lead began to look pretty shaky as two batters reached—the latter on a questionable walk—and the tying run came to the plate.

But one Iowa player was overheard on the broadcast explaining to his pitcher that the late-inning rally was just an ESPN-manufactured ruse.

Iowa’s coach wasn’t having any of it as he tried to keep his team focused on the next pitch—which looked like a ball, but was called a strike. Either way, Iowa escaped with a 6-3 win before taking down the Mountain region team 10-2 on Sunday.

No ESPN drama there.

An Iowa Little Leaguer showed off his cannon of an arm to get runner at home plate, and fans were impressed

What a rocket of an arm!

During an elimination game between Iowa (Midwest Region) and Utah (Mountain Region) in the Little League World Series on Sunday, one player made a positively ridiculous play. It was also pretty clutch in what is shaping up to be a wild tournament thus far.

The bases were loaded for Utah in the second inning while trying to come back from an early 4-1 deficit. Utah’s Dash Avery got enough of a solid hit on what probably would’ve been a sac-fly that led to a few runs in almost any other circumstance. But not on the watch of Iowa’s Greyson Ballinger.

You see, the outfielder caught the ball on the run and, in one seamless motion, launched an absolute rocket right to the catcher’s glove at home plate. Yes, of course, the runner was thrown out!

Goodness, gracious! You’ll never guess the end result of the inning for Utah, by the way: Just one run as Iowa went on to win the game 10-2.

Plays like Ballinger’s are the sorts of fantastic moments from amazing Little Leaguers that make the Little League World Series so much fun to watch.
