Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Islanders Game 6 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Islanders Game 6 odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders play Game 6 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs third-round series Wednesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Below, we analyze the Lightning-Islanders odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Lightning pushed the Islanders to the brink of elimination in the most brutal way possible in Game 5, blowing out New York 8-0 at Amalie Arena.

The Isles were uncharacteristically undisciplined, committing 12 total penalties for a total of 57 minutes and allowing three power-play goals once rookie Ilya Sorokin relieved Semyon Varlamov.

Lightning at Islanders: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Lightning -155 (bet $155 to win $100) | Islanders +125 (bet $100 to win $125)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Lightning -1.5 (+180) | Islanders +1.5 (-225)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -130 | U: +110)

Lightning at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy (31-10-1, 2.21 GAA, .925 SV%, 5 SO) vs. Semyon Varlamov (19-11-4, 2.04 GAA, .929 SV%, 7 SO). Stats from regular season.

Vasilevskiy made 21 saves in Game 5 for his fourth-career postseason shutout, including three in these playoffs. He has allowed two or fewer goals in five of the past six starts.

Varlamov got the quick hook in Game 5, but Sorokin was even worse. Look for bench boss Barry Trotz to dance with who brought him, and that’s the veteran-backstop Varlamov.

Lightning at Islanders: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lightning 3, Islanders 2

Money line (ML)

The LIGHTNING (-155) will have a much more difficult time of it in this close-out game, which is always the toughest of any series, and the Islanders will be buoyed by their raucous home crowd. This will be the final game at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum for the series, and it should be a close one.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Islanders +1.5 (-225) were destroyed last time out, but I like them to bounce back with a spirited effort in this elimination game. Still, I’m not backing them, as they will cost you more than two times your potential return.

AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total of 5 should land right on the projected number, one of the reasons I dislike a flat five line with two good netminders patrolling the crease.

The better play is looking to the alternate line of UNDER 5.5 (-165), although it will cost you.

Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Islanders Game 4 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Islanders Game 4 odds and lines, with NHL picks, tips and predictions.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders play Game 4 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs third-round series Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Below, we analyze the Lightning-Islanders odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Lightning came up with the 2-1 road victory against the Islanders in Game 3 seizing back home-ice advantage. They’re still averaging just 2.33 goals per game in this series, however.

The Islanders were 4-1 across their previous five home games until Thursday’s loss. They have had a power outage on offense in this series, totaling just five goals across three games.

Lightning at Islanders: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Lightning -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Islanders +115 (bet $100 to win $115)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Lightning -1.5 (+190) | Islanders +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -130 | U: +105)

Lightning at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy (31-10-1, 2.21 GAA, .925 SV%, 5 SO) vs. Semyon Varlamov (19-11-4, 2.04 GAA, .929 SV%, 7 SO). Stats from regular season.

Vasilevskiy has allowed two earned runs across the past four games while winning three of them. He allowed just the one goal on 28 shots in Game 3 in Uniondale.

Varlamov has allowed three or fewer goals in six of the past eight playoff games, but the offense has failed to give him much in the way of support with just 1.67 goals per game in this series.

Lightning at Islanders: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lightning 3, Islanders 2

Money line (ML)

The LIGHTNING (-140) are moderate favorites as they look to take a commanding 3-1 series lead. The Islanders (+115) have had difficulty lighting the lamp, and they’re not worth backing at this point against the defending champs.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Lightning -1.5 (+190) are a tempting play here, but their Game 3 win was a one-goal victory, and two of the three games in this series have been one-goal games. The Islanders +1.5 (-250) will cost you two-and-a-half times your potential return, and that’s just not worth the risk, either.

AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

I like the TOTAL 5 to land right on the number. With the way this series has been, taking a flyer on the alternate line while playing UNDER 5.5 (-165) is the way to go.

Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Islanders Game 3 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Islanders Game 3 odds and lines, with NHL picks, tips and predictions.

The Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders play Game 3 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs third-round series Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Below, we analyze the Lightning-Islanders odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Lightning rebounded from a Game 1 setback at home and doubled up the Islanders by a 4-2 count in Game 2 as the Over connected. Tampa Bay might be happy to be on the road, as it’s 5-1 in six road games in these playoffs.

The Islanders snatched home-ice advantage away from the Lightning in Game 1 with a 2-1 win. The Game 2 loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Isles.

  • Money line: Lightning -150 (bet $150 to win $100) | Islanders +125 (bet $100 to win $125)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Lightning -1.5 (+180) | Islanders +1.5 (-225)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -145 | U: +120)

Lightning at Islanders: Projected starting goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy (31-10-1, 2.21 GAA, .925 SV%, 5 SO) vs. Semyon Varlamov (19-11-4, 2.04 GAA, .929 SV%, 7 SO). Stats from regular season.

Vasilevskiy wasn’t terrible while allowing 2 goals on 31 shots in Game 1, but his counterpart was just a little better. The offense backed Vasilevskiy much better in Game 2, a game in which he actually made fewer saves than in the loss.

Varlamov coughed up 4 goals on 27 shots in Game 2; it was the third time in nine postseason games he allowed 4 or more goals. The loss snapped a four-game win streak by Varly and the Isles.

Lightning at Islanders: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Islanders 2, Lightning 1

Money line (ML)

The ISLANDERS (+125) are the value play as the series shifts to the Island. Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum has been raucous during these playoffs, and the Isles have reacted well on home ice.

They won two of three games at home against the Boston Bruins, with the lone loss in overtime. They were also 2-1 at home in Round 1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, yet the books continue to make them underdogs in Uniondale. Take advantage.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The Islanders +1.5 (-225) will cost you more than two times your potential return, and they’re just not a recommended play at that price. They’re a much better value on the money line.

AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5 (+120) is the lean at plus-money, as Vasilevskiy and Varlamov should be locked in quite the duel in this decisive game. This series has the chance of going very deep, and the goaltenders are the biggest reason.
