LeBron’s new Netflix series on the life of Madam C. J. Walker released on Friday

LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s new Netflix series on the life of Madam C. J. Walker released on March 20.

LeBron James and Maverick Carter are executive producers on a new Netflix series celebrating the life of Madam C.J. Walker. “Self-made” is a four-episode series starring Octavia Spencer as the title character who goes on to become America’s first female millionaire. The script is adapted from the book written by Walker’s great-great-granddaughter, A’Lelia Bundles, “On Her Own Ground.” 

“Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker” was written for the binge-able television audience by Nicole Asher. The project officially dropped on March 20 and spent most of the weekend near the top of Netflix’s top-10 ranked shows in the United States. The series produced by LeBron is directed by Kasi Lemmons who recently directed the movie, “Harriet.” 

Born Sarah Breedlove, Madam C.J. Walker worked here way to the top as a hair care entrepreneur during the Jim Crow era by relying on tremendous strength and courage throughout her life. Walker first works as a washer woman before achieving her entrepreneurial success. After making her fortune, she became a passionate philanthropist working to create new opportunities for young black women.
