Clemson legend, former NFL star joins Dabo Swinney’s staff

Clemson’s coaching staff added a Tigers’ legend, according to reports.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers coaching staff added another member, and this one knows Clemson all too well.

According to reports from our friends over at the Clemson Insider, Clemson legend and former NFL star Levon Kirkland is joining Dabo Swinney’s staff. While Kirkland’s role is uncertain, the Tigers have added a Ring of Honor recipient to the staff.

Great news for the Tigers: Kirkland is one of the program’s all-time greats. With Clemson from 1988-’91, Kirkland was an All-American linebacker and one of the best of his time. He then departed for the NFL, where he spent nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, one with the Seattle Seahawks, and one year with the Philadelphia Eagles.

During his time with the Tigers, Kirkland earned a first-team All-ACC selection for three seasons while being named a second-team All-American and Butkus Award Finalist in 1990 and a consensus first-team All-American in 1991. He later went on to be an All-Pro linebacker for the Steelers.

An excellent addition to the Clemson staff, Dabo Swinney isn’t messing around.

No. 93 is worn by third-year defensive tackle Milton Williams, who’ll look for double-digit sacks for the second straight year.

With less than 90 days until kickoff, here’s a look at every player to ever wear No. 93 for the Eagles (via Pro Football Reference):
