On this day in Boston Celtics history, former Boston big man Stacey King was born in Lawton, Oklahoma back in 1967. King would play his college ball at the University of Oklahoma before being picked up with the sixth overall pick by the Chicago Bulls in the 1989 NBA draft.

As far as being a part of Celtic history goes, you can’t get much more tenuous than King. The man has almost as many rings (3– from his time with the Chicago Bulls, where he won 3 years in a row with Michael Jordan between 1991 and 1993) as he does games with Boston.

King played a total of 5 tilts with the Celtics after he signed a 10-day contract but did not renew with a second, dissatisfied with how he was being used and how the organization was run under ML Carr.

The Pennsylvania native’s Hawks collided with the Celtics in the playoffs in his second year in the league but were eliminated five games to two. After that season, Maravich’s play elevated to an elite level, rising to the sixth-highest scoring player in the league in his third season.

It continued on its upward trend to be second-highest by its fourth.

Every player in Boston Celtics history who wore No. 0

Today’s installment focuses on the six players who wore No. 0 over the years as of September 2023.

The Boston Celtics have more retired jerseys than any other team in the NBA, but that doesn’t mean the rest of their jerseys have little history or interest tied to them. In fact, with 17 titles to their name and decades of competitive basketball played in them, their unretired jersey numbers pack in some of the most history not hanging from the rafters of any team in the league.

To that end, we have launched our accounting of that history, with every player in every jersey worn by more than one Celtics player in the storied franchise’s history accounted for.

Two Celtics champs on the move in re-assessment of the 2006 NBA draft

Let’s take a look at which Boston alumni landed where.

With Hoops Hype’s Frank Urbina and Raul Barrigon busy re-assessing the draft orders of the last two decades over the last few weeks, there are always a number of Boston Celtics alumni on the move in their re-drafts as a result.

In the H/H duo’s revisit of the NBA’s 2006 draft class, a pair of Celtics champions ended up seeing their draft stock rise considerably with the benefit of hindsight lifting their fortunes. And while they won’t see any pay raises or anything else of that sort given the fictitious nature of such an exercise, it’s also nice to see this duo get their flowers, too.

Let’s take a look at which Boston alumni landed where.

Leon Powe on how Bill Russell changed his life through his writing

Long before he ever won an NBA title with the Boston Celtics, Leon Powe found inspiration in another connection to the Celtics organization.

Long before he ever won an NBA title with the Boston Celtics, Leon Powe found inspiration in another connection to the Celtics organization that would set him on the path to playing the sport he won that title with in a book written by a fellow Celtics alum and Oakland denizen.

A mecca for not only Celtics greats, but NBA players, athletes, and even pop stars and politicians, the city of Oakland California was anything but a dream for a younger Powe, who spent much of his childhood going into and out of foster care. Speaking in an interview with the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy soon after the death of Boston great Bill Russell in the summer of 2022, Powe revealed how a book written by Russell changed his life.

“Growing up in Oakland California Bill Russell Inspired me to be a leader on and off the court, how to face adversity head-on as he did countless times in his lifetime,” said Powe. ” just want to say thank you Mr. Russell for giving a young foster care kid hope and belief.”
