Sean Payton’s Broncos will visit Saints on Thursday Night Football

The Saints will square off with Sean Payton in prime time. The Broncos are visiting New Orleans in Week 7 on Thursday Night Football:

Welcome back, Sean Payton. The New Orleans Saints’ former coach will return to the Caesars Superdome for a Thursday Night Football game in Week 7, per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill, with kickoff against Payton’s Denver Broncos scheduled for Oct. 17.

It’s going to be at least a little awkward to see Payton on the opposing sideline. The winningest coach in Saints history hasn’t found as much success since he joined the Broncos. Payton finished with an 8-9 record in 2023, jettisoned quarterback Russell Wilson, and drafted rookie passer Bo Nix in hopes of living up to the expectations he brought to Denver.

This is going to be a big game. If Dennis Allen can outfox his former boss and take advantage of an inexperienced quarterback, stealing a win at midseason would do a lot to help his standing among Saints fans. A loss would be a little embarrassing, sure, but it’s not like it would tell us anything we don’t already know. There are fans bringing signs to Saints games asking for Payton to come back and replace Allen for good reason.

But Payton isn’t the only former member of the Saints in Denver. Former players like Pro Bowl kicker Wil Lutz, wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey, fullback Michael Burton, guard Calvin Throckmorton, tight ends Adam Trautman and Lucas Krull, and defensive tackles Malcolm Roach and Jordan Jackson are on the Broncos. So are former Saints coaches including Pete Carmichael Jr., Joe Vitt, Michael Wilhoite, Joe Lombardi, Declan Doyle, Logan Kilgore, John Morton, and Zach Strief, among others. So there will be plenty of familiar faces lining the far side of the field on Thursday night.

Report: Saints to kick off 2024 season at home vs. Panthers

FOX 8’s Garland Gillen reports the New Orleans Saints will kick off their 2024 season at home against the Carolina Panthers:

There it is. The New Orleans will kick off their 2024 season at home against the Carolina Panthers, per FOX 8’s Garland Gillen, giving head coach Dennis Allen a great opportunity to start 1-0 for his third consecutive season. Hopefully the pattern stops there, though, with the Saints missing the playoffs in each of his first two years as their head coach.

Carolina fielded the worst team in pro football last offseason, and they’ve worked hard to surround young quarterback Bryce Young with a stronger supporting cast. There’s a new coaching staff, new receivers, new blockers, and plenty of other new additions for Young to work with.

Still, this is a game the Saints should be expected to win. They handled the Panthers well last year with two wins in the divisional series, and New Orleans is up 31-28 against Carolina all-time, dating back to 1995. This is going to be a big chance for Allen’s handpicked quarterback and play caller to show what they can do together. Let’s see if Derek Carr and Klint Kubiak are up to the task.

Report: Saints to close out 2023 regular season in Week 18 vs. Falcons

Report: Saints to close out 2023 regular season in Week 18 vs. Falcons

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

There’s what everyone has been waiting for: Nola.com’s Jeff Duncan reports that the New Orleans Saints will end the 2023 season in Week 18 with a home game against the division-rival Atlanta Falcons, though the NFL is waiting to finalize a date and time for the matchup — just like they did last year.

Additionally, Duncan reports that the Saints will visit the Falcons for a road game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Week 12, the Sunday after Thanksgiving. That’s a noon kickoff on Nov. 26.

If you include the playoffs, the Saints and Falcons are all tied up in their series history at 54-54 (Atlanta won their lone postseason tilt). So there’s a lot on the line already before you consider each team’s chances in the race for an NFC South division title.

Reports: Saints to play Panthers on Monday Night Football in Week 2

Multiple reports out of Carolina have the Saints visiting to play the Panthers in primetime for Week 2. It might be an Andy Dalton Revenge Game, or Bryce Young’s home opener:

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Here’s another NFL schedule leak: the New Orleans Saints will visit the Carolina Panthers for a primetime game on Monday Night Football in Week 2, as first reported by 92.7 WFNZ-Charlotte’s Travis Hancock and confirmed by Joe Person for The Athletic. The Saints always seem to play the Panthers close (and early), so this matchup should be no different

But who will be the quarterback? The Panthers traded up to select Bryce Young with the first overall pick in the 2023 draft, but they’ve also come out and said it’s Andy Dalton’s job to lose. We’ll see how long it takes for them to correct course and put the rookie in the driver’s seat, but there’s at least the suggestion of a chance Dalton could play against the team he struggled to lead last year.

Beyond the early implications in the NFC South title race, there are a lot of bragging rights on the table here. Carolina has won three of their last four games with New Orleans to cut the Saints’ grip on the all-time series lead down to 29-28. A win in front of a national audience would tie things up and set the stage for a pivotal rematch in the Caesars Superdome later in the 2023 season.

New Orleans Saints 2023 schedule tracker: Instant analysis on latest reports, rumors, and leaks

New Orleans Saints 2023 schedule tracker: Instant analysis on the latest reports, rumors, and leaks for this season’s games

The 2023 NFL schedule release is drawing closer by the minute, but there have already been plenty of reports, rumors, and leaks flying around on what’s in store for the New Orleans Saints.

Some of those claims (like the Saints supposedly traveling to Germany for a game with the New England Patriots) have already been disproven by the NFL. So take this with a grain of salt and wait for the official schedule release to make your travel arrangements.

In the meantime, we’ll maintain this live tracker for what’s being reported by reputable outlets. Check this space often as we piece the Saints’ schedule together:

Report: New Orleans Saints to visit Green Bay Packers in Week 3

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reports that the New Orleans Saints will visit the Packers in Week 3 for Green Bay’s home opener:

And we’re off: it’s NFL schedule release day, and we’ll soon know the dates and times for every game in the 2023 season. Things are off to a good start for the New Orleans Saints, who won’t be playing one of their few outdoors road games in the cold.

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman reports that the New Orleans Saints will visit the Green Bay Packers in Week 3 for Green Bay’s home opener. Kickoff is scheduled for noon CT on Sept. 24, with the game being broadcast on FOX.

It’s a new era for both teams. The Saints are pushing all their chips in on Derek Carr curing what’s ailed their offense so they can get back to the playoffs. The Packers are giving Jordan Love the opportunity he’s been preparing for as Aaron Rodgers’ understudy the last few years. Each of these squads has postseason aspirations, and this could be an early test to see which of them is up to snuff.

Still, the uncertainty surrounding them means this matchup is being shuffled into the early-afternoon slot rather than a more-prominent broadcast later in the day.

More game dates will be reported as we get closer to the official release at 7 p.m. CT. Check Saints Wire often for updates.

Report: Saints opening 2020 season vs. Buccaneers, visiting Raiders on MNF

The New Orleans Saints will host Tom Brady and the new-look Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their home opener for the 2020 NFL season, per a report.

The NFL is set to release its schedule of games for the 2020 season at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday night, but reports are already filtering in concerning when the New Orleans Saints will be playing this year. Nothing is official until the team itself reveals its slate of games, so don’t finalize your travel plans just yet.

Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football got the scoop on the first few weeks of the 2020 Saints schedule, which begins with an afternoon home opener against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 13. Underhill adds that the Saints and Buccaneers will get a rematch on Sunday Night Football on Nov. 8.

Additionally, Underhill reports that the Saints are scheduled for two Monday Night Football games: in Week 2 at the Las Vegas Raiders, and again in Week 5 versus the Los Angeles Chargers. The Green Bay Packers will visit New Orleans in Week 3, while the San Francisco 49ers will grace the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in Week 10.

Stay tuned for updates as more reports come to light throughout the day. But if things follow this early track, this year’s Saints schedule is looking to be as exciting as advertised.
