Guy recorded 57 tackles and two sacks last season for New England.  He has been a mainstay on the defensive line for the Patriots, having joined the team in 2017.

With New England making a flurry of moves over the past couple of weeks, the Patriots have managed to put together several team-friendly contracts.

Report: Patriots sign DT Lawrence Guy to 4-year deal

The Patriots signed Lawrence Guy to a four-year deal.

The New Patriots signed defensive lineman Lawrence Guy to a four-year contract on Wednesday, according to multiple reports. In doing so, they have brought yet another familiar face back to the organization.

Last season, Guy recorded 57 tackles and two sacks in 14 games played. He has recorded 235 tackles and seven sacks over a New England career that has spanned four years to this point.

His best game in 2020 came against the New York Jets in the season finale. He recorded five tackles in played his part in a 28-14 win.

With Guy returning to the fold, the Patriots will now have additional firepower on a defensive line that has seen a bit of a makeover this offseason.

In addition to some big-name signings, adding defensive linemen Davon Godchaux and Henry Anderson, the Patriots have also taken care of retaining familiar faces this offseason. This should help the Patriots have a balanced roster.

Tom Brady’s former Patriots teammates react to his NFC Championship victory

There’s no love lost for the GOAT.

It’s clear there was no bad blood when Tom Brady took his talents to Tampa Bay.

The 43-year-old gave everything he had to the New England Patriots and that resulted in nine Super Bowl appearances and six victories. He dedicated two decades of his life to the franchise, and he was ready to experience life outside of Gillette Stadium. Now, the Buccaneers quarterback is en route to his tenth Super Bowl appearance after defeating the Green Bay Packers 31-26 in the NFC Championship Game.

Following the astounding feat, Brady’s former Patriots teammates went to Twitter to congratulate him on the victory — making sure it was known he’s the greatest to ever do it.

Now it’s time for Brady to take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.

The Patriots refuse to give up on the 2020 season, even facing improbable odds

How will the Patriots handle their dwindling playoff hopes?

[jwplayer qLoEf0nU-ThvAeFxT]

The New England Patriots are running out of legitimate paths to the playoffs after a 24-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14 on Thursday night.

But coach Bill Belichick, running backs coach Ivan Fears and Lawrence Guy each shared similar responses to questions about the team’s outlook for the rest of the season, with just a 6% chance of making the playoffs.

“We aren’t done yet,” Fears told reporters on Friday.

Bill Belichick, meanwhile, is managing scrutiny about his quarterback situation and said that the Patriots are “trying to win games” as he elects to keep quarterback Cam Newton at the helm. And then there’s Guy, who shared an impassioned quote.

“We ain’t a bunch of quitters,” Guy told reporters after the game Thursday night. “It doesn’t matter what the record is. It doesn’t matter what the outcome is. We ain’t a bunch of quitters. We’re going to go out there and play some football. We are who we are. We’re NEP, and that’s what we’re going to do — continue to fight regardless of what happens at the end of the season.”

Guy had four tackles against the Rams in a brutal defensive performance, with L.A. running back Cam Akers putting up 171 yards on 29 carries. On the season, Guy has 44 tackles and two sacks.

The Patriots are 6-7, and they have three games remaining in the season, with game against the Miami Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets.

Lawrence Guy lets it be known the Patriots aren’t ‘a bunch of quitters’

The Patriots will play their hearts out till the end.

Weird things happen in 2020.

One of those weird things is the absence of the New England Patriots in the playoffs. The Patriots have a 6 percent chance of making it into the postseason, but those odds will likely dwindle after this weekend unfolds. New England will miss the playoffs for the first time in 12 seasons and they’ll  have a record without double digit wins for this first time since 2017.

Cam Newton’s been on a streak of three straight games with less than 120 passing yards and the group of skill players is laughable compared to most other NFL teams. With the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets ahead, the Patriots can make the decision to tank for a draft pick or finish the season strong.

According to Patriots’ defensive lineman Lawrence Guy, the latter is the only option.

“We ain’t a bunch of quitters,” Guy said, transcribed by NESN.

The Patriots are 6-7 and have the potential to finish the season with a winning record. It’s the prideful decision to make, but the Patriots may need to draft a quarterback early and the more losses the better for that scenario. It’s hard to believe Newton will be the starter in 2021 despite the bad hand he was dealt.

For anyone with hopes of tanking the season, you can kiss that goodbye.

The Patriots made a monstrous stop on 4th down vs. the Cardinals, and fans loved it

Lawrence Guy made a big stop towards the end of the first half.

With the New England Patriots taking on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 12, defensive tackle Lawrence Guy and linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley made a big stop defensively, just before the end of the first half.

With the Cardinals draining down the clock towards the end of the second quarter, they called a running play at the one-yard line on a fourth-and-goal with one second left in the game. Had they scored, it would have given Arizona a 17-7 advantage. Instead, Guy clogged the middle and Bentley made the tackle, stuffing running back Kenyan Drake. With the clock winding down, the Cardinals were not able to get off another play.

With the Cardinals receiving the ball to open the second half, that stop may loom large. It gives New England a fighting chance to get back into the game.

Report: Patriots bring in veteran defensive tackle for visit

The Patriots are doing everything possible to keep depth on the defensive line.

[jwplayer n73ie9r3-ThvAeFxT]

The New England Patriots are continuing to add depth during a time of uncertainty because of the coronavirus and injuries.

New England brought in 28-year-old defensive tackle Akeem Spence on Tuesday for a visit, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. Spence was drafted in the fourth round in 2013 and he’s spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,  Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Spence has been reliable for the teams he’s played for and he carries a 6-foot-1, 303 pound frame. He’s been out of the league since this past spring, when he had a stint with the Jaguars.

The Patriots recently claimed Carl Davis and Isaiah Mack — making sure to solidify the offensive line that’s been hurting.

Stephon Gilmore ruled out, N’Keal Harry active for Patriots in Week 10 vs. Ravens

The Patriots will have N’Keal Harry, Damien Harris and Lawrence Guy.

For the third consecutive week, the New England Patriots will be without star cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Gilmore leads a group of inactives, against the Baltimore Ravens, that includes Ja’Whaun Bentley, J.J. Taylor, Hjalte Froholdt, Isaiah Mack, Jordan Thomas and Brian Hoyer.

Fortunately for the Patriots — Lawrence Guy, Damien Harris and N’Keal harry are all active for the contest. Guy’s a fundamental piece along the Patriots defensive line and his presence will be much-needed against a run-heavy team in Baltimore. Harris’ status was a game-time decision, but he overcame the chest injury.

Harry gives the Patriots another option at receiver, which is huge after last week’s win against the Jets. Jakobi Meyers and Damiere Byrd were the only formidable receivers on the field.

The Patriots are 3-5 and looking to work their way back to a .500 record.

5 Patriots extension candidates with all of their newfound cap space

These Patriots could see new contracts soon.

The Patriots have found themselves with a windfall of cap space. After the eight opt-outs, New England now has the third-most cap space in the NFL with $35.28 million.

That’s quite an adjustment from the $260,000 in cap space they had just a month ago.

With all of this room to work, the Patriots have many options for spending. Many fans would like them to go out and sign some quality free agents that are still available on the market. Big names like Jadeveon Clowney and Everson Griffen are still available so the sentiment is understandable.

However, with so many players entering the final year of their contract, it makes sense that the Patriots look to extend a few of their own with the extra cap room.

These five players would be great candidates to receive an extension in the coming weeks.

David Andrews

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Andrews may have missed all of last season with blood clots in his lungs, but he isn’t letting that stop him. Despite the risk of playing through the pandemic, Andrews is in the facility getting ready for the season.

There will be a lot of change happening in New England over the next few seasons including this year being the first year without veteran offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia. Having a consistent anchor in the middle of the line for years to come would not hurt.

Lawrence Guy pulls back curtain on free agency meeting with Bill Belichick

How Bill Belichick convinced Lawrence Guy to sign with New England.

Lawrence Guy’s visit with the New England Patriots during free agency helped him realize he and the organization were a natural match. Though, Bill Belichick’s blunt disposition took some getting used to.

“If you have had a conversation with Bill – well, you guys know how that conversation goes,” Guy said on a conference call Wednesday. “Pretty much, when I came out on my visit, I sat with everybody. I sat with Matt Patricia, Brian Flores, Brendan Daly. We all sat in a room, we watched some film, we pulled up the film with – I was with the Ravens, so we put the Ravens-Patriots game on and we went over it, the whole game. Like, ‘What do you think?’ We did all that. Coming down to speaking with Bill, it was straight to the point. Bill was like, ‘This is where we value you as a player, and we’re going to get the best out of you.’ Pretty much, that was it.”

Belichick’s sell to Guy wasn’t complicated.

“He’s a straight-shooter and that’s what you need to hear. He’s going to tell you the truth. He’s going to tell you how it is. That’s what he pretty much was telling me, like, ‘If you come on this team, we’re going to make you better because we’re going to push you. We’re going to make you uncomfortable,'” Guy said.

He admitted that when he joined the Patriots, he had a lot to learn, but he has found himself making steady improvements over his three years in New England. Belichick’s perfectionist approach has Guy constantly questioning how he can improve. He’s never content.

That’s how he landed on the Patriots’ All-Decade team this week. That’s what will have him anchoring New England’s defensive line during the 2020 season. He’ll be the team’s No. 1 defensive tackle, regardless of what front — 3-4 or 4-3 — they’ll use in 2020.
