Gerrick Gordon shuts down recruitment, is all in on Rutgers football

Gerrick Gordon talks about committing to Rutgers football.

After committing to Rutgers football on Sunday afternoon, [autotag]Gerrick Gordon[/autotag] has shut down his recruitment. His verbal over the weekend while on an official visit to the Big Ten program represents a significant recruiting win for the program.

Rutgers fought off some stiff competition to land Gordon, who is a 6-foot-4 and 270-pound interior offensive lineman from Trinity Catholic (Ocala, Florida). A three-star offensive lineman, he is the No. 38 interior offensive lineman in the nation per Rivals.

In March, Rutgers joined a list of offers for Gordon that included Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, Purdue, South Carolina, SMU, Tulane and West Virginia among others.

Gordon’s commitment came on Sunday following a conversation with head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag]. It was a meeting that impressed Gordon due to Schiano’s honesty with him.

“He was pretty straight forward,” Gordon told Rutgers Wire about the meeting before his commitment.

“Told me my ups and downs. Didn’t just tell me my ups. (I) want a coach that is going to tell you the truth and that’s hard to find.”

Specifically, Gordon said Schiano singled out the “Things I need to work on off and on the field.”

As for his other relationships on the Rutgers staff, Gordon likes how things have progressed with offensive line coach [autotag]Pat Flaherty[/autotag].

Now in his second year at Rutgers, Flaherty has re-tooled the Rutgers offensive line and helped the unit make a significant developmental leap in his first season back with the program. Flaherty brings two decades of NFL experience back to Rutgers, having been a part of the Scarlet Knights coaching staff earlier in his career.

“Coach Flaherty is a very big reason why I committed,” Gordon said.

“The man knows what it takes to be great. He knows what it’s like to win and what it takes.”

Gordon said he will not be taking any other official visits and is completely committed to Rutgers.

On the recruiting trip with Gordon was [autotag]Latish Kinsler[/autotag], a mentor who has helped guide him through the recruiting process.

Kinsler is a former standout college football player at Cincinnati who played in the NFL. His son is Jordan Kinsler, a running back at Rutgers who showed some flashes recently at the spring game.

Class of 2026 offensive tackle Marlen Bright is offered by Rutgers football

Rutgers football sent out an offer this weekend to Marlen Bright.

Rutgers football officially joined what is an already crowded recruitment for New Jersey offensive lineman Marlen Bright.

A class of 2026 offensive lineman from DePaul Catholic (Wayne, New Jersey), Bright pulled in an official Rutgers offer on Saturday while taking a visit for a spring practice. The 6-foot-6, 260-pound offensive tackle already holds offers from Boston College, Duke, Illinois, Penn State, Syracuse, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin

Saturday’s spring practice saw some of the best recruits in the region in attendance at Rutgers.

Bright is projected to be one of the top offensive tackles in the nation this fall and then moving into his senior season. He is explosive at left tackle, getting out of his stance effortlessly and engaging with power and physicality.

He doesn’t disengage till the whistle, finishing off his blocks.

As he enters his junior season, he certainly has some very strong building blocks to his game.

On Saturday following his official visit, Bright tweeted about the offer. The social media post tagged Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano as well as his father, Depaul’s account on X and Latish Kinsler.

A former college standout at Cincinnati, Kinsler is now an NIL adviser and mentor for some of the top prospects in the region.

Bergen Catholic standout Jermaine Kinsler talks upcoming Rutgers football visit

Top recruit Jermaine Kinsler talks Rutgers football visit on Saturday.

Bergen Catholic standout lineman Jermaine Kinsler will be at Rutgers on Saturday for their Big Ten regular-season finale against Maryland.

One of the top recruits in New Jersey, Kinsler will be one of several dozen recruits at SHI Stadium for Rutgers as they close out the regular season. Rutgers has taken a step forward as a program, with a 6-5 (3-5 Big Ten) record and a greatly improved roster.

He currently has a strong offer list that includes Boston College, Florida, Liberty, Maryland, Miami, Michigan State, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Syracuse in addition to Rutgers.

The class of 2026 lineman gave an update on his recruitment and where things stand with Rutgers.

“Things are going well with Rutgers. The program under coach Schiano is going in the right direction,” Kinsler told Rutgers Wire.

“They are a school that I’ll give serious consideration to. I also stopped by a Rutgers basketball practice recently. Never know…I might be fortunate enough to play both for Rutgers.”

After his visit on Saturday, Kinsler’s full attention will turn to Tuesday night at MetLife Stadium, which will be the host Bergen Catholic against Delbarton.

“We are prepared. Everyone is locked in – coaches and players,” Kinsler said.

“Personally, I can’t wait to play at MetLife. I’ve been there a couple of times but not as a player.”

The transition from Florida, where Kinsler was born and raised, has been eye-opening for him but he says it is a challenge he has been up for.

“My first season has been a learning process because I’m playing both sides of the ball,” Kinsler said.

“But I’m enjoying the challenge. Plus, I love my teammates.

“New Jersey is definitely different than back home but every day, things get a little more comfortable. I have a good amount of family here so that helps when I miss my parents and siblings.”

In his recruitment, Kinsler said he is being guided by his parents in addition to his uncle [autotag]Latish Kinsler[/autotag]. A former college standout at Cincinnati who played in the NFL, Latish Kinsler is based in New Jersey and is working as a mentor who guides college prospects through the recruitment process as well as Name, Image and Likeness (NIL).
