Injury updates for Broncos CB Riley Moss after Raiders game

Broncos CB Riley Moss is dealing with a knee injury. Here are the latest updates.

Story update: Broncos CB Riley Moss (knee) missed all three days of practice this week and has been ruled out for a Monday Night Football clash with the Cleveland Browns in Week 13. See our original post below.

Denver Broncos second-year cornerback Riley Moss left Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders with a knee injury in the second quarter and was later ruled out in the third quarter. We will be tracking Moss injury updates on this page in the coming days.

Riley Moss injury update

After the game, Broncos coach Sean Payton indicated that it does not appear to be a serious injury. “Fortunately, it wasn’t really serious with Riley,” Payton said after a 29-19 win. “It’s an MCL. I’m not going to give anything. We’ll see how next week is. There was some thought he could go back in. We’ll see where it’s at.” That’s certainly a positive update.

How long will Riley Moss be out?

The fact that the team considered putting Moss back in the game on Sunday seems like a very good sign, but it remains to be seen if he will be available to play against the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football in Week 13. We’ll know more about Moss’ status when the team returns to practice later this week and begins releasing injury updates.

Broncos cornerback depth chart

Levi Wallace filled in for Moss against the Raiders and he would likely start if Moss has to miss any games. Wallace and Pat Surtain played as the team’s outside cornerbacks with Ja’Quan McMillian playing in the slot. Denver also has Damarri Mathis, Tremon Smith and Kris Abrams-Draine at cornerback.

Moss, 24, has eight pass breakups and one interception this season.

Desmond Ridder says he is ready to go if called upon to start for Raiders

Should Aidan O’Connell be unable to return, Desmond Ridder could be the Raiders starting QB week 13 vs the Chiefs. He says he’s ready.

Late in the Raiders’ week 12 game against the Broncos, Gardner Minshew went down hard and was taken to the locker room with an apparent shoulder injury. He was replaced at quarterback by Desmond Ridder.

With the revelation that Minshew is lost for the season with a broken collarbone, Ridder would seem to have a legitimate chance to be the starter when the Raiders face the Chiefs next Friday. An opportunity Ridder says he’s ready for.

“Yeah, I feel I’m ready to play,” said Ridder after the game Sunday. “I’ve been here almost a month now. I feel comfortable with the offense. I’m ready to go, so whatever the situation may be, it’s not up to me, it’s up to the higher power, but I’m ready for any situation may be.”

His head coach seems to feel a bit differently about Ridder’s readiness to be the team’s starter.

“It’s not enough reps,” Pierce said. “When Gardner was in there we gave him all the reps. He did some stuff in seven-on-sevens, but to sit there and say we’ve seen enough? No. We’ve seen film, he’s played in this league and obviously today was tough. Sitting on the bench the last 55 minutes and now you’re throwing him in the ball game, but he did the best he could.”

Ridder came into the game late in the fourth quarter and on his second play had a rusher come around the left edge to hit his arm as he threw, forcing a fumble the Broncos recovered in scoring range.

He then faced a soft Broncos defense and was able to drive down the field before ultimately getting sacked in goal to go from the one. He plans to be ready to step in as the starter if called upon just as he would at a moment’s notice during a game.

“You try to do as much as you can to stay warm, whether that’s in the first half coming in here getting a stretch or in half time, hopping on the bike around the third quarter and throwing in between every drop,” Ridder added. “So really it’s just being ready to go. And I’m always ready to go. I’ll make sure I’m never not ready to go in that situation.”

Former starter Aidan O’Connell is eligible to return from injured reserve this week and if he’s ready to go, he figures to be the most likely to reclaim his starting job. But if he’s not, then Ridder will have to get up to speed with his teammates in three days time to face the best team in the NFL in their house at Arrowhead.

Raiders winners and losers in 29-19 defeat vs. Broncos

The Raiders took a lead into halftime but couldn’t hold off the Broncos. Which players and coaches stood out, for better or for worse?

The Raiders took a 13-9 lead into halftime but couldn’t hold off the Broncos (7-5) after the break, losing 29-19 at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.

It was the Broncos’ first road win against the Raiders since 2015. Conversely, Las Vegas lost its seventh straight this season and fell to 2-9.

An interception from quarterback Gardner Minshew early in the third quarter started the Raiders’ downward slide. After the Raiders clawed back into the game and faced a 26-19 deficit, a fumble from QB Desmond Ridder—who was in for an injured Minshew—put the Broncos in Raiders territory and sealed the Raiders’ loss.

Here are the winners and losers after another disappointing week in Las Vegas.

Winner: RB Dylan Laube

The Raiders were down 3-0 early but received a shot of adrenaline thanks to rookie running back Dylan Laube. His 59-yard kickoff return gave Las Vegas great field position, and the drive ultimately resulted in a touchdown.

Laube was active due to injuries to running backs Zamir White and Alexander Mattison. He took advantage and helped everyone forget about his first carry in the NFL a few weeks ago, which resulted in a fumble.

Winner: RB Ameer Abdullah

Running back Ameer Abdullah caught a touchdown pass for the second week in a row. He was being covered by a linebacker when Minshew alertly threw it right into Abdullah’s arms for six points.

Abdullah’s touchdown finished what Laube started with his return and gave the Raiders a 7-3 lead.

Another reserve running back, first-year pro Sincere McCormick, is an honorable mention for the winner list. He got his first action in the NFL and actually led the Raiders in rushing with five carries for 33 yards. New offensive coordinator Scott Turner missed an opportunity to give McCormick the ball more; he looked fantastic running between the tackles and should get more carries next week.

Winner: P AJ Cole and LB Divine Deablo

The Raiders extended their lead to 10-6 in the second quarter, but not before a gutsy call on special teams paid off. Punter AJ Cole threw linebacker Divine Deablo, who was wide open for a 34-yard gain.

Kicker Daniel Carlson converted a field goal to end the drive. He hit all four of his field goal tries, including a 53-yarder.

Winner: DE Tyree Wilson

Defensive end Tyree Wilson made an impact in this game, notching a QB sack, two tackles for loss, and a QB hit. It was Wilson’s third sack of the season, all coming within the last four contests, including one last week.

This Raiders season has gone terribly, but if Wilson can start living up to his first-round draft status, that will be a big win for Las Vegas.

Winner: WR Jakobi Meyers

Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers continues to step up for the Raiders as their No. 1 wideout. He caught 10 of 15 targets for 121 yards, highlighted by tough fourth-quarter catches and a forced pass interference penalty.

Loser: QB Gardner Minshew

In a flashback to the Raiders’ first loss to the Broncos this season, Minshew turned the ball over just as it seemed Las Vegas was starting to take control.

It wasn’t as drastic last time when the Raiders seemed primed to go ahead 17-3 before a Minshew interception in the red zone, but it was close. Ahead 13-9 with the football after the Raiders defense stopped the Broncos’ first possession of the third quarter, Minshew sailed one over the head of Meyers.

Adding injury to insult, Minshew reportedly broke his collarbone later in the game and is out for the season.

Loser: CB Decamerion Richardson

The Raiders were without two starting cornerbacks in this game, leaving rookie Decamerion Richardson to pick up the slack. He struggled early and often, as the Broncos seemingly targeted the Raiders’ depth in the secondary.

The Raiders trailed just 19-16 when Richardson was beaten by Broncos wide receiver Cortland Sutton for a touchdown.

Chalk it up as a learning experience for Richardson, as he had a couple of good moments as well.

Loser: CB Jack Jones

Veteran Jack Jones also had his share of good moments, including a tackle for loss, a pass defensed, and seven total tackles. But he too fell victim to Sutton earlier in the game, when the Broncos took the lead for good in the third quarter after Minshew’s interception.

Jones clearly missed his normal running makes in the secondary, cornerbacks Nate Hobbs and Jakorian Bennett, who were both inactive due to injury.

Loser: TE Brock Bowers

One week after his best performance of the season, rookie tight end Brock Bowers was brought back down to earth by the Broncos defense. Bowers caught just four of his 10 targets for 38 yards.

The Raiders fought until the end but as injuries pile up, roster shortcomings will make life difficult for coach Pierce until the season mercifully ends. They’ll try to push the Chiefs to the limit next week, as the Raiders will travel to Kansas City to face their longtime rival the day after Thanksgiving in a nationally televised game.

Raiders QB Gardner Minshew lost for season, who starts in his place?

Raiders QB Gardner Minshew has a shoulder injury. Here are the latest updates.

Late in the fourth quarter of the Raiders week 12 game against the Broncos, Gardner Minshew ran out right and was tackled hard. He was slow to get up and when he did was holding his left arm and taken straight to the locker room.

QB Gardner Minshew injury update

Following the game, head coach Antonio Pierce said Minshew had a left shoulder injury and that “It doesn’t look good.”

How long will Gardner Minshew be out?

According to multiple reports, X-rays reveal a broken collarbone which means Minshew is out for the rest of the season.

Raiders QB depth chart

Desmond Ridder came in for Minshew in the fourth quarter, playing the remainder of the game.

Ridder has been with the team for about a month. I asked Antonio Pierce if he’d seen enough from Ridder to have him in the mix, and he said quickly no. Adding that Ridder hasn’t had nearly enough reps either in practice or in games to be handed the job on a short week.

Aidan O’Connell is eligible to return from partial season injured reserve this week and, if he’s indeed ready to return, he is expected to step back into the starting job. It would certainly be good timing for his return. Ridder would back him up.

Bo Nix makes history again as Broncos defeat Raiders 29-19

The Broncos defeated the Raiders on Sunday and Bo Nix now holds the franchise record for the most TD passes by a rookie in team history.

The Denver Broncos defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 29-19 on Sunday afternoon, securing their first-ever win at Allegiant Stadium. Broncos quarterback Bo Nix broke another record in the victory.

With two touchdown passes on Sunday, Nix now holds Denver’s rookie record for the most touchdown passes (16) in a season (with five games remaining).

The Broncos opened the scoring late in the first quarter with a 38-yard Wil Lutz field goal to take a 3-0 lead. After that, the Raiders returned a kickoff 59 yards and quarterback Gardner Minshew later threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Ameer Abdullah to make it 7-3. Lutz answered that with a 53-yard field goal to close the deficit to 7-6.

Las Vegas converted a fake punt on the next drive with a 34-yard pass from punter AJ Cole to linebacker Divine Deablo. That set up a 34-yard Daniel Carlson field goal that extended the Raiders lead to 10-6. After that, Lutz converted a 54-yard field goal to make it 10-9. Cole then kicked a 34-yard field goal to give Las Vegas a 13-9 lead going into halftime.

Momentum swung Denver’s way in the third quarter when safety Brandon Jones intercepted a Minshew pass. That set up quarterback Bo Nix’s 18-yard touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton to take a 16-13 lead.

Lutz added a 45-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to make it 19-13. Carlson matched that with a 53-yard field goal to draw the Raiders within three, 19-16. Later in the fourth, Nix threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Sutton to extend the lead to 26-16. Carlson then kicked a 22-yarder to make it 26-19.

Minshew suffered a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter, then the Broncos got the ball back after Desmond Ridder was sacked and fumbled the ball, essentially sealing the game. Lutz added a 33-yard field goal after that turnover to secure a 29-19 lead, which held as the final score.

Denver cornerback Riley Moss suffered a knee injury late in the second quarter and was ruled out in the second half. Nix also seemed to be bothered by some kind of issue in the second half and his waist area was wrapped on the sideline.

Up next for the Broncos is a Monday Night Football home game against the Cleveland Browns in Week 13.

Raiders vs Broncos week 12 recap, final score: Another Las Vegas collapse puts losing streak at 7

The Raiders held a rare third quarter lead over the Broncos week 12 only to see it slip away and their losing streak reach seven games.

Special teams was special for the Raiders all day against the Broncos. A big kick return by Dylan Laube set up the Raiders touchdown early in the second quarter to jump to a 7-3 lead. Then a fake punt pass from AJ Cole to LB Divine Deablo would set up a field goal to help the Raiders go up 13-9 at the half.

To begin the third quarter, the Raiders defense would stop the Broncos for a three-and-out, making for the first time since week four that they started a drive with a lead in the third quarter.

It would last six plays.

On the fourth play of the Raiders’ possession, Gardner Minshew would get his arm hit as he threw by Broncos edge rusher Nick Bonitto and Brandon Jones would pick it off.

Two plays into the Broncos’ ensuing possession, Nix found Courtland Sutton for the touchdown to take a 16-13 lead.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Broncos would go on another drive into Vegas territory. A tackle for loss by Maxx Crosby followed by a batted pass by Tre’von Moehrig would stall the drive, but the Broncos still added a 45-yard field goal to extend the lead to 19-13.

The Raiders answered back with a drive that ended with a 53-yard Daniel Carlson field goal to bring it back to a three-point game at 19-16.

Again, it didn’t last long as the Broncos marched down the field for a touchdown. The big play was a 37-yard catch and run by Marvin Mims that put the Broncos in first and goal at the two. Next play, Bo Nix made a perfect throw for Courland Sutton in the back of the end zone for the score and a 26-16 Broncos lead.

With the game now a two-score difference, and just over five minutes left, the Raiders would need to work quickly if they hoped to have a chance.

Three straight completions to Bowers, Meyers, and Turner would put the Raiders in first down at the Denver 44. A nice 25-yard pass from Minshew to Meyers put the Raiders inside the 20 and another completion to Meyers for 15 yards put them in first and goal at the four.

From there three straight incompletions brought on the field goal unit to try and make it a one score game. Carlson converted on the chip shot to make it 26-19 with 3:38 remaining.

The Raiders defense got the offense the ball back, but on the first play Gardner Minshew is sacked and left the game injured and headed for the locker room.

Desmond Ridder came in at QB and on his second play, he was hit as he threw, causing a fumble and the Broncos recovered in scoring range.

A field goal by the Broncos off the turnover brought it back to a two-score lead, which sealed the Raiders’ fate, as they would love their seventh straight game.

Watch: Raiders fake punt has AJ Cole connect with Divine Deablo for big yards

What looked like a stop turned into a score after a 34-yard connection on a fake punt pass from AJ Cole to Divine Deablo.

Trickeration! In fourth and four from their own 36-yard-line, Antonio Pierce trotted out AJ Cole for the punt. Or did he. Cole took the snap and instead of punting it, he passed it to a wide open Divine Deablo for a 34-yard gain to the Denver 36-yard-line.

Here it is in all its glory.

The Raiders were ahead 7-6 over the Broncos and are pulling out all the stops to try and get back into the win column. And what better time to do that than in Las Vegas against a bitter rival.

Unfortunately the Raiders were unable to get a touchdown out of it, but they added a field goal to take a 10-6 lead with 3:48 left in the second quarter.

Special teams set up both the Raiders’ scores on the day. The first one after a Dylan Laube kick return to the Denver 40-yard line that they Raiders finished off for a touchdown.

Watch: Gardner Minshew drops one into Ameer Abdullah to take early lead over Broncos

Early in the second quarter of the Raiders week 12 game vs the Broncos, Gardner Minshew connected with Ameer Abdullah on a gorgeous TD pass.

It’s been pretty competitive early in the week 12 matchup between the Broncos and Raiders. The Broncos got on the board late in the first quarter with a field goal, but the Raiders quickly answered with a touchdown.

The pass and catch from Gardner Minshew to Ameer Abdullah was a sight to see. Check it out.

Minshew put the ball right over the shoulder of the linebacker who was in tight coverage, but turned around on the play. And Abdullah made a masterful catch around the defender for the score.

It’s a surprising start for the Raiders against a tough Broncos team with one of the best defenses in the league. But it’s still early in the second quarter, so there’s a lot of game left to play.

Abdullah got the start at running back with both Zamir White and Alexander Mattison OUT with injuries. Abdullah leads the Raiders in yards from scrimmage so far with six touches (four carries) for 30 yards and the touchdown.
