Raiders, Chiefs final injury report: Both Chiefs’ starting right tackles are OUT

Raiders, Chiefs final injury report: Both Chiefs’ starting right tackles are OUT

In every game this season, either Lucas Niang or Mike Remmers has started at right tackle for the Chiefs. Both of them are officially OUT vs the Raiders Sunday Night.

Niang has started seven of the Chiefs’ nine games this season, including the last two. Remmers — who started at right tackle last season for the Chiefs — would be stepping in for him if he were healthy, but he’s not, so the Chiefs must go to a third option — Andrew Wylie.

Wylie was a starting guard for the Chiefs from 2018-20, but has yet to start a game this season. He came in for Niang in the first quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Packers, and played 80% of the snaps.

Maxx Crosby already had plenty of motivation to retake the Raiders lead in sacks after Yannick Ngakoue took it over last week. Now Crosby will get to work against a recent backup guard to try and do it.

Four Raiders players show up on the injury report for today. None are starters. OUT are S Tyree Gillespie (hamstring) and LB Nick Kwiatkoski (ankle). Doubtful are CB Keisean Nixon (ankle) and CB Amik Robertson (hip).

Raiders, Chiefs Thursday injury report: Johnathan Hankins returns to practice

Raiders, Chiefs Thursday injury report: Johnathan Hankins returns to practice

Thursday brought some good news for the injury status of a couple Raiders starters. First and foremost, nose tackle Johnathan Hankins returned to practice from his back injury that had him miss Wednesday’s practice. Also getting an upgrade was slot receiver Hunter Renfrow who was limited on Wednesday with an ankle injury. He was a full participant on Thursday.

Even with Hankins looking like he’ll play, Thursday Raiders DC Gus Bradley said Damion Square would be seeing action, replacing Darius Philon who was placed on injured reserve this week.

Downgraded to DNP for Thursday were reserve safety Tyree Gillespie (hamstring) and cornerback Amik Robertson (hip). And still not practicing were LB Nick Kwiatkoski (ankle) and CB Keisean Nixon (ankle).

Though the Chiefs have Chris Jones’s absence listed as Not Injury Related, he also is listed with a back injury and he missed a second straight practice. Others missing practice include offensive linemen Lucas Nuang (ribs) and Mike Remmers (knee). CB L’Jarius Sneed (ankle/wrist) returned to practice and was limited.

Raiders, Chiefs Wednesday injury report: DT Johnathan Hankins (back) misses practice

During the Giants game on Sunday, the Raiders suffered a couple of injuries to their defensive tackles. Early Wednesday the team placed Darius Philon on injured reserve with an ankle injury while nose tackle Johnathan Hankins missed practice with a back injury.

With Philon out, the team signed Kendal Vickers off the practice squad. Damion Square would likely be active next Sunday if Hankins is unable to go. Square started in place of Hankins in week six against the Broncos when Hankins was out with a hip injury.

Others who missed practice with injury were LB Nick Kwiatkoski (ankle) and CB Keisean Nixon (ankle). Both players left Sunday’s game on a cart together, having been injured on the same special teams play.

Limited for the Raiders was S Tyree Gillespie (hamstring), WR Hunter Renfrow (ankle), and LB KJ Wright (shoulder).

Missing for the Chiefs were CB L’Jarius Sneed (ankle/wrist), OL Lucas Niang (ribs), and OL Mike Remmers (knee).

AFC West report for Week 10: Raiders lone loser, half-game separates first and last place

AFC West report for Week 10: Raiders lone loser, half-game separates first and last place

It was a great week for AFC West teams. Unless you were the Raiders. They were the only team in the division to lose, knocking them out of first in the division with the Chargers retaking the top spot. Here’s how the division stacks up after Week 9:

Los Angeles Chargers 5-3 (2-0)
Las Vegas Raiders 5-3 (1-1)
Kansas City Chiefs 5-4 (0-1)
Denver Broncos 5-4 (0-1)

It was a rough loss for the Raiders, who looked out of sorts on offense in New York. The team was still reeling from the shocking news of top wide receiver Henry Ruggs III driving drunk and crashing into another vehicle, killing a young woman. Ruggs was released hours after the news hit and the Raiders took the practice field hours after that.

The emotional week along with suddenly being without Ruggs on the field clearly affected the Raiders. Carr threw two interceptions and fumbled the ball away and the Raiders fell to the Giants 23-16 in the meadowlands.

The Eagles came from behind late to tie it up with the Chargers 24-24. With just over six minutes remaining, the Chargers’ offense went on a long drive, draining the clock down to two seconds and ended it on a Dustin Hopkins field goal from 29 yards out. They improve to 5-3 to move back into first place in the division after falling out of it during the Raiders’ bye week.

The Broncos entered the post-Von Miller era and stunned the Cowboys in Dallas. The final score was 30-16, but it was never actually that close. The Broncos led 27-0 early in the fourth quarter and cruised to the win.

The Chiefs caught a break and edged the Packers who were without Aaron Rodgers who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list after popping positive and discovering that he’d been lying about being vaccinated. They held on 13-7 over the Pack. They face the Raiders in Las Vegas next week.

Next up:

Chargers vs Minnesota Vikings (3-5)
Chiefs at Raiders (SNF)
Broncos vs Philadelphia Eagles (3-6)

If the Raiders win and the Chargers lose, the Raiders move back into first place in the division. If the Raiders lose and the Broncos win, the Raiders fall to last place.
