4 things to know about new Jets LB LaRoy Reynolds

Get to know new Jets linebacker LaRoy Reynolds.

With linebacker depth an issue for the Jets after a number of injuries, the team signed journeyman LaRoy Reynolds to the practice squad this week.

Reynolds, who turns 31 on Nov. 3, was a 2013 undrafted free agent out of Virginia. He’s seen action in 117 games over eight seasons, playing mostly on special teams. The 6-foot-1, 240-pound linebacker has 117 combined tackles, three quarterback hits, three tackles for a loss and one forced fumbled to his name.

He spent two months with the Patriots this past offseason but was released with an injury settlement in May. Reynolds has also spent time with the Jaguars, Bears, Falcons, Bengals, Eagles and 49ers.

Here are four things to know about the Jets’ newest linebacker.

Patriots sign LB and special teamer LaRoy Reynolds

On Wednesday, the New England Patriots signed a player with versatility in LaRoy Reynolds.

The New England Patriots added to their linebacker depth, signing LaRoy Reynolds on Wednesday.

Reynolds played in 16 games for the Atlanta Falcons last year. He recorded 12 tackles, a pass deflection and a forced fumble.

Reynolds also contributes on special teams, where the Virginia product has performed well over the years. As noted in a tweet from Mike Reiss, Reynolds has played in 122 games, and has tallied 57 special teams tackles.

With New England making several signings on the defensive side of the ball, Reynolds’ versatility could be an important component for a Patriots organization that appreciates adaptability in their players.

As New England continues to make signings of the course of this offseason, this was one that helps solidify the special teams unit, and can help the defense moving forward.

Examining the contracts of WR Laquon Treadwell, LB LaRoy Reynolds

The Falcons added two more players to their roster over the weekend, agreeing to terms with wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and linebacker LaRoy Reynolds.

The Falcons added two more players to their roster over the weekend, agreeing to terms with wide receiver Laquon Treadwell and linebacker LaRoy Reynolds.

According to ESPN’s Vaughn McClure, Treadwell signed a one-year, $910,000 deal, but it will only count $750,000 against the cap in 2020. Reynolds’ is a one-year, $1,050,000 million contract that will also count for just $750,000 against the cap this season:

Checking in on the Falcons’ cap figure at Over The Cap, it looks like the team has about $13.83 million, however, the contracts of Dante Fowler Jr. and Todd Gurley are not yet figured into that number, meaning Atlanta will again be fighting the cap this season.

General manager Thomas Dimitroff has already restructured the contracts of Matt Ryan and Jake Matthews, and don’t be surprised to see a few more Falcons players doing the same before the 2020 draft.

Falcons agree to terms with LB LaRoy Reynolds

Reynolds played 15 games last year for the Cincinnati Bengals after spending the 2018 season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Atlanta Falcons are bringing back a familiar face to help on defense, agreeing to terms with linebacker LaRoy Reynolds, the team announced on Tuesday:

Reynolds played 15 games last year for the Cincinnati Bengals after spending the 2018 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for Atlanta from 2016-2017, recording 45 total tackles as a backup middle linebacker and special teams contributor.

With De’Vondre Campbell leaving for the Arizona Cardinals, the Falcons could use extra depth at the linebacker position and Reynolds is familiar with Dan Quinn’s defense.

Expect Atlanta to add another player or two in the draft or free agency to replace Campbell, the team’s leading tackler last year.
