Pregame

The Texans declared their inactives, and there weren’t any real surprises as injuries already dictated five players that would sit for Week 3.

First quarter

15:00 — Houston gets the ball first. RB Mike Boone fields the opening kickoff from a yard inside the end zone and makes it only to the Houston 13-yard line.

14:13 — QB C.J. Stroud dumps off to RB Devin Singletary on a third-and-12 from the Houston 11 for seven yards. The Texans go three-and-out.

13:31 — P Ty Zentner punts 45 yards to the Jacksonville 37. The Jaguars signal for a fair catch, and CB Kadar Hollman is dinged for fair catch interference. The Jaguars start first-and-10 at the Houston 48-yard line.

11:40 — QB Trevor Lawrence misses RB Tim Jones on a third-and-9 from the Houston 30-yard line.

11:36 — K Brandon McManus misses wide right on a 48-yard field goal.

8:47 — Stroud connects with WR Tank Dell for a 46-yard strike down to the Jaguars 2-yard line. The ball was under thrown slightly and really a tale of Dell’s body control.

7:39 — RB Dameon Pierce scores a 1-yard touchdown. K Ka’imi Fairbairn’s extra point is good. 7-0, Texans

5:10 — Weirdly the Jaguars blow it. On a third-and-2 from their own 46-yard line, RB Travis Etienne falls down for a yard.

1:53 — Stroud misses TE Dalton Schultz on a third-and-5, but it would not have mattered given there was an illegal shift.

Second quarter

12:48 — WR Calvin Ridley was injured on an incomplete target. His return is questionable.

12:44 — Lawrence throws to TE Brenton Strange for four yards on third-and-8 from the Houston 37-yard line.

12:02 — DE Will Anderson blocks McManus’ 51-yard field goal attempt. The rookie couldn’t get on it, and LB Jake Hansen recovered underneath the scrum at the Jacksonville 41.

7:30 — The Texans take advantage as Stroud completes a seven-play, 41-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown pass to TE Brevin Jordan. Extra point is good. 14-0, Texans

5:01 — An illegal use of hands to the face wipes out a fourth down conversion for the Jaguars. Lawrence hit Ridley for a 12-yard gain up to the Houston 33. Instead the Jaguars have to punt.

4:10 — Stroud can’t connect with WR Robert Woods on a third-and-9 from the Texans’ 16.

1:13 — S Eric Murray forces a fumble from WR Jamal Agnew that Cashman recovers and returns to the Texans’ 34-yard line.

0:35 — Houston goes three-and-out as Stroud can’t connect with Dell.

0:03 — Fairbairn’s 28-yard field goal is good. Texans, 17-0

Texans downgrade OT Laremy Tunsil to out vs. Jaguars

The Texans’ already banged up offensive line will now be without three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil against the Jaguars.

The Houston Texans will be without three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars after downgrading him from questionable to out Saturday.

On Friday, the Texans ruled out four players all on the defensive side of the football. The Houston offensive line has suffered a wave of injuries, though, with six linemen — including Tytus Howard, Scott Quessenberry, Kenyon Green, and rookie Juice Scruggs — on injured reserve.

With so many linemen out of action, Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has faced pressure often through the first two weeks. He’s already been sacked 11 times, the most in the NFL through Week 2.

The Jaguars recorded four sacks in a Week 1 win against the Indianapolis Colts with Josh Allen notching three and Travon Walker getting one. In a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the only sack of the day for the Jacksonville defense came from K’Lavon Chaisson.

No Jaguars player has reached double-digit sacks in a season since Allen had 10.5 as a rookie in 2019.

Left tackle Laremy Tunsil (knee) was limited as were receiver Tank Dell (thigh), tackle George Fant (ankle/knee), defensive end Jonathan Greenard (knee), safety Eric Murray (concussion), quarterback C.J. Stroud (right shoulder), and safety Jimmie Ward (hip).

Receiver Robert Woods was also limited, but for rest related reasons.

Texans vs. Colts inactives: LT Laremy Tunsil out

The Houston Texans have declared their Week 2 inactives for the Indianapolis Colts, and LT Laremy Tunsil (knee) is out.

Texans’ offensive line depth, solutions to be tested in Week 2 against the Colts

The Houston Texans’ offensive line will be tested once more in the Week 2 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Can the depth step up?

HOUSTON — The offensive line position was considered one of the strongest units for the Houston Texans heading into training camp, but heading into the Week 2 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, it is as fragile as table chairs being held together by duct tape.

The Texans are expected to be without 2022 Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil on Sunday due to a knee injury. Tunsil was held out of practice for the majority of the week by the training staff.

That is a terrible blow to a unit that is already missing right tackle Tytus Howard (broken hand), left guard Kenyon Green (left shoulder), and centers Scott Quessenberry (ACL, MCL) and Juice Scruggs (hamstring). Howard and Scruggs are expected to return this season, while Quessenberry and Green will miss the entire 2023 campaign.

Tunsil’s injury may hinder what first-year offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik wants to accomplish by establishing the running game early and getting rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud comfortable in the pocket. Stroud was sacked five times in the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

With the lack of depth in the offensive line unit, the team signed offensive lineman Michael Deiter to the active 53-man roster and elevated Austin Deculus from the practice squad to the game day roster. Tackle Josh Jones is expected to move from the left guard position to left tackle to replace Tunsil.

Report: Texans LT Laremy Tunsil not expected to play against the Colts

Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil is questionable for Week 2, but is also not expected to play against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Houston Texans may have to see what else they have in reserve to keep C.J. Stroud upright against the Indianapolis Colts.

According to Adam Schefter from ESPN, the Texans expect to be without three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil in Week 2 as they host their AFC South rivals at NRG Stadium.

Houston tinkered with their game day activations to provide for such an accommodation. The Texans signed center-guard Michael Deiter from the practice squad to the active roster, and also deemed second-year tackle Austin Deculus as one of their two standard elevations from the practice squad.

Tunsil started all 17 games for Houston last season, the first time in the former Miami Dolphins 2016 first-round pick’s career he finished a season’s full complement of games.

Texans expected to be without LT Laremy Tunsil vs. Colts

Texans LT Laremy Tunsil is not expected to play in Week 2 against the Colts.

Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil is not expected to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts due to a knee injury, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.

Tunsil entered the weekend listed as questionable on the final injury report due to a knee injury, which allowed him to practice just one time throughout the week on a limited basis.

Tunsil is not expected to play against the Colts, adding the list of impactful injuries on Houston’s sideline.

Taking Tunsil’s spot at left tackle will be Josh Jones, who started at left guard for the Texans in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. The Texans are working with an offensive line that is missing several starters and one that just allowed five sacks and 10 quarterback hits on rookie C.J. Stroud in Week 1.
