AEW Collision results 03/30/24: Adam Copeland is Alwayz Ready for 1st title defense

Several Dynasty matches also came into focus during AEW Collision in Ontario.

What do you do when your bigger competition is about to have its biggest event of the year? Just keep keeping on and put on the best shows you can, which is what AEW Collision will hopefully be tonight in Ontario.

AEW has found some hot crowds during its current Canadian swing, and this should be no exception since Adam Copeland is making the first defense of his TNT Championship. We won’t know who the challenger is until their music hits, which is always fun.

Other big business (no pun intended) for Collision includes a pair of tag team title tournament matches that will help advance two duos toward a title match at Dynasty. We’ve got FTR and Big Bill/Ricky Starks to move on, but we shall see.

Here’s how it all went down.

AEW Collision results from London, Ontario:

  • Adam Copeland kicks off the show by saying how grateful he is to be in Ontario and how the stakes are raised for the Cope Open since he’ll be defending his TNT Championship in these matches now; Copeland makes the call for someone to come out and accept the challenge, and it’s answered by Matt Cardona

  • Adam Copeland def. Matt Cardona by pinfall to retain the AEW TNT Championship
  • After the match, the lights go out and come back on to reveal Malakai Black standing in the ring, bringing on a “holy s–t” chant from the crowd; Buddy Matthews attacks Copeland from behind, and Mark Briscoe fares poorly while trying to help him, but the appearance of Eddie Kingston to reinforce the faces gets the House of Black to pull a disappearing act
  • Lexy Nair asks FTR about their strategy against The Infantry, to which Cash Wheeler says it’s to not look past their opponents since they’ve been on a losing streak, and Dax Harwood says they need to make sure The Infantry’s Cinderella story ends tonight

  • Daddy Ass cuts a promo on Jay White ahead of their meeting on the next episode of Dynamite, and The Acclaimed have some choice words for all of Bullet Club Gold as well

  • FTR def. The Infantry by pinfall in an AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Quarterfinal
  • Nair talks to Big Bill and Ricky Starks, who are confident about defeating Top Flight despite not having a match in quite some time

  • Copeland says he knows the TNT title makes him a marked man, but he isn’t crazy about the House of Black jumping in his business, and challenges the House to a six-man match at Dynasty against him, Briscoe and Kingston, both of whom add their own two cents

  • Kyle O’Reilly def. JD Drake by submission, and is immediately hoisted onto the shoulders of the Undisputed Kingdom, who clearly want him to join up

Christian Cage also revealed what was in his case on AEW Collision and how he’s going to use it on Christian Cage.

How we feeling, AEW fans? The promotion seems to have received a shot in the arm as of late, and that’s no surprise considering Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Moné all arrived within weeks of each other. It’s a crazy talent infusion, but none of it will be part of tonight’s episode of AEW Collision.

Will that matter? Maybe not, as AEW felt a little more focused even in the build-up to Revolution earlier this month. Maybe not quite to the point where it’s restored the peak enthusiasm from a few years ago, but trending upward for sure.

Plus, if there’s one thing Tony Khan can be counted on to do, it’s to book a dream match out of nowhere just because he can. Bryan Danielson vs. Katsuyori Shibata, come on down!

So while the three newcomers are of course all amazing, AEW doesn’t have to rely on only them, and we should see that tonight from Canada’s capital. Let’s see.

  • Danielson is meditating backstage but stops to talk about how grateful he is that he got to wrestle Shibata tonight and that he’s got a match coming up with Will Ospreay coming up; Danielson suggests that Ospreay doesn’t understand what he and Shibata have gone through and isn’t ready for what the American Dragon is willing to do

  • Claudio Castagnoli def. Lance Archer by DQ after he’s attacked by The Righteous; Danielson tries to make the save but is outnumbered, so Shibata also flies down with a chair and sends the heels running
  • Nair talks to Parker, who was ready to fight Knight tonight, but he agrees to “leave it alone for tonight” after Ruby Soho suggests that if he tries to start something tonight, he’ll have to do it without her

  • Kyle O’Reilly def. Bryan Keith by submission; after the match, Undisputed Kingdom comes out to celebrate with O’Reilly

AEW Collision results 01/13/24: House of Black keeps FTR down bad

Even with Daniel Garcia to help, FTR couldn’t overcome the House of Black on AEW Collision.

There’s a really, really cold football playoff game right now. You know where it will be much warmer and still plenty entertaining? In Norfolk, the site of tonight’s episode of AEW Collision.

While there are a few interesting matches on the card tonight, the main event figures to be FTR and Daniel Garcia teaming to face the House of Black. The House has been messing with FTR for some time now, claiming to be the only ones who love them.

But Garcia proved that wrong when he came to the duo’s rescue after an assault by … yes, you got it, the House of Black. Guess it’s tough love.

It may be an unlikely team-up, but it’s one that works as Garcia tries to balance his love of dancing with his road back toward being more pro wrestler and less sports entertainer. FTR can definitely help him with that. Let’s see if they do that and come out with a win tonight.

  • Adam Copeland is out in his gear, meaning it’s time for the Cope Open; he asks who will step up, and he gets … Lee Moriarty, who gets a short hype video before he takes on Copeland
  • Adam Copeland def. Lee Moriarty by submission; after the match, Copeland returns to the mic and warns Christian Cage that “I’m still coming for your scrawny ass”
  • Lexy Nair asks FTR and Daniel Garcia if they can get along well enough to deal with House of Black, and they seem to be like-minded enough about what they’re doing that it won’t be a problem

  • Nair talks to Sammy Guevara and Chris Jericho ahead of their tag team title match on Battle of the Belts
  • Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage and Gates of Agony) def. Lance Archer and The Righteous by pinfall to retain the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship; afterward, Prince Nana calls his team the greatest ROH six-man tag team champs of all time and scoffs at Bullet Club Gold before challenging them for the next episode of Dynamite

AEW Collision results 11/4/23: FTR still figuring out friend from foe

AEW Collision did a nice job of loading up the next episode of AEW Dynamite.

What do you do when you have a bunch of tag teams whose subplots all kind of overlap? Throw them into one big eight-man tag main event, which is what’s happening tonight on AEW Collision from Wichita.

FTR is still hot for another shot at Big Bill and Ricky Starks, the duo who beat them for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Gates of Agony has been making trouble for FTR and other face teams too … an umbrella that now apparently includes La Faccion Ingobernable.

So yes, all four teams are going to be involved in the last match tonight. Will that settle anything? Probably not. But that’s just how you gotta roll sometimes in wrestling.

There’s some other interesting stuff on the card, beginning with the first match that’s wasting exactly zero time to get started.

  • AR Fox isn’t waiting for the Elton John song to start the show, attacking Swerve Strickland in what passes for a cold open to Collision
  • Swerve Strickland def. AR Fox by pinfall, after which …
  • … FTR comes out to brawl with Gates of Agony, and are soon joined by Big Bill and Ricky Starks, as well as La Faccion Ingobernable, and the faces end up clearing the ring as House of Black watches from somewhere in the seats
  • MJF responds to Daniel Garcia calling him out on Rampage, and he seems OK with it since Garcia is a young guy, but wants to know if he’s getting the professional wrestler or the sports entertainer
  • More from MJF, who sarcastically congratulates Jay White for pinning him and calls Switchblade a nobody; needless to say, Bullet Club Gold sees that pin somewhat differently, and White says his group has earned the night off but will be back on Wednesday
  • Kip Sabian is pissed off (his words) at Mark Briscoe, and challenges him to find two partners to face him and The Workhorsemen

  • The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass are ready to celebrate 69 days as trios champs, complete with balloons, streamers and the whole nine yards; Anthony Bowens has a special gift for Max Caster, which turns out to be a video message from MJF saying Caster has earned his respect and he’s starting to like The Acclaimed, but just when the segment looks like it’s going to end …

AEW Rampage results 11/3/23: Someone else is gunning for MJF

MJF has enough problems, but he may just have had another one find him on AEW Rampage.

It’s hard to feel too bad for MJF. He’s been AEW World Champion for a while now, has had some great matches this year, and even found true friendship thanks to Adam Cole.

But man, everyone wants what he has right now. His challengers are multiplying on what feels like a daily pace, so it should probably come as no shock if we said that someone else wants a shot at the Triple B.

Who, you say? Read on and all will become clear.

Twelve men enter, one man leave. Or something like that. It’s time for a Dynamite Dozen Battle Royale tonight on AEW Dynamite from Rosenberg, TX.

MJF has made the Dynamite Diamond Ring even more securely than Gollum did the One Ring, considering that no one to date has been able to win it from him. Will that change in 2023? First we need to figure out who will face him for it, which tonight’s battle royale will accomplish.

Which 12 men are competing? We don’t know that yet, but Juice Robinson and Dustin Rhodes are among them. Should be a fun time regardless of who else is in the mix.

Like big names in action? Tonight’s Dynamite has some of those too. Kenny Omega will take on Aussie Open’s Kyle Fletcher, while “Switchblade” Jay White battles Penta El Zero Miedo. Also it looks like Hikaru Shida vs. Emi Sakura has been added in a clash between student and teacher.

Plus there’s other potentially good stuff in the pipeline. Sting will address AEW fans, though we hope it’s not for the reason many are speculating. Adam Copeland will finally offer his rebuttal to possibly former friend Christian Cage. And Jim Ross will have a sitdown interview with Nick Wayne and his mom.

All the while, we’re grinding toward Full Gear. So we could see more developments on that front as well. Never hurts to have a few matches booked in advance, right?

We’re looking forward to seeing what’s in store for the peeps in the Houston area, provided they aren’t too concerned with what’s going on with their Astros. Let’s get into it.

AEW Battle of the Belts VII results: 3 champs retain in Calgary

AEW Battle of the Belts VII saw three championships up for grabs, but did any change hands?

Does one good show deserve another? AEW Collision, which featured both Owen Hart Foundation Tournament finals and an absolute banger of a tag team title match between FTR and Bullet Club Gold, just rolled right into Battle of the Belts VII.

We mean that literally, too, as the streamers were still coming down from the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament final when the broadcast switched over. Let’s roll with it as well and see what’s going down.

AEW Battle of the Belts VII results from Calgary:

Jushin “Thunder” Liger is out to hand out the Owen Hart cup, but Ricky Starks takes it from him and heads to the back.

Orange Cassidy def. Lance Archer by countout to retain the AEW International Championship

This … is not the guy you want to be facing if you’re Orange Cassidy and already worn down from tons of title defenses. He seems to have a solution, however, by piling security guards on top of Archer on the floor. It doesn’t work for long but was a nice idea, anyway.

Both men take some huge moves and keep on going, but lots of it is going on outside the ring. Orange takes advantage of that by knocking Archer off the apron and rolling back into the ring just before the ref counts to 10, allowing him to retain by the skin of his teeth.

The Acclaimed have arrived in Calgary. Max Caster is upset about QTV talking smack about them, so he vows to beat them in the ring and on the mic Friday on Rampage. But that’s not all: Anthony Bowens says next Saturday on Collision, The Acclaimed will get their rematch for the Trios Championship.

Toni Storm def. Taya Valkyrie by pinfall to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship

A somewhat bitter Ruby Soho accompanies Storm to the ring. Buoyed by her home fans, Valkyrie races out to a quick start, but one can’t help but feel the numbers game is going to get her eventually.

The feed cuts out during the match, however, and the show moves on when the broadcast returns, so we didn’t get to see the finish of the match. A replay at the end of the show verifies that, yep, Soho made the difference to help her Outcasts teammate keep her gold.

Tony Schiavone welcomes Dr. Martha Hart to present Starks and Willow Nightingale with their Owen Hart Foundation belts and trophies. She gives a nice speech, and even though it seems like it might be a setup for Starks to fully commit to a heel turn after he cheated to win, everything stays peaceful.

Luchasaurus def. Christian Cage by pinfall to retain the AEW TNT Championship

You know the fans would love to see Spears get his hands on Cage, but that way leads to danger as Luchasaurus takes advantage … and Scorpio Sky watches on a monitor backstage.

The dinosaur man ends up winning in fairly short order, allowing Cage to pose with the belt as he is wont to do.

AEW Rampage results 07/14/23: Willow shocks Athena, moves on to face Ruby

AEW Rampage also finalized several more matches for Battle of the Belts this Saturday.

AEW Rampage continues the company’s current swing through Canada, this week coming to us from Saskatoon. It’s in a bit of a strange spot on this particular Friday, however, because it’s not just killing time between Dynamite and Collision, it’s also setting things in motion for Battle of the Belts.

Is there still a place for Battle of the Belts now that AEW has an extra two hours of weekly wrestling on TV? It’s a fair question, but considering it’s just an extra hour with (hopefully) nothing but championship matches, it should work out.

In any case, Rampage has a few things of its own worth checking out this week, including an important women’s tournament match, so let’s get into it.

  • Keith Lee and Dustin Rhodes def. Matt Menard and Angelo Parker by pinfall
  • QTV boasts about burning The Acclaimed with Harley Cameron’s diss track, and Johnny TV says his group is challenging The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass to a match next week
  • Taya Valkyrie def. Izzy McQueen by pinfall in one of the shortest squash matches you’ll see; afterward, Toni Storm and Saraya come down and call her a loser since she’s Canadian, to which Valkyrie manages to goad Storm into a championship match at Battle of the Belts

Dominion 6.4 in Osaka-jo Hall results: Sanada holds off intriguing challenger, Bullet Club grows

Is there change in the air? It’s always possible when eight championships are on the line on one pro wrestling card, which is the case for NJPW Dominion 6.4 in Osaka-jo Hall.

Except for one eight-man tag and one match to determine a No. 1 contender for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship — and even that bout is intriguing considering the man holding that particular title is Kenny Omega — every bout on this year’s card is a championship match.

With that much gold on the line, it’s tricky to pick the showdowns that stand out from the rest, but three figure to be measuring sticks for whether things will be shaken up across New Japan this summer. The first sees David Finlay, leader of the Bullet Club, take on former teammate El Phantasmo for Finlay’s NEVER Openweight Championship. Will this be a measure of revenge for ELP after he was unceremoniously booted from the group, or further validation of Finlay’s new direction for one of pro wrestling’s most famous stables?

Hiromu Takahashi defends his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against Master Wato, who made quite the impression by winning the 2023 Best of the Super Juniors tournament. A victory over Hiromu would give him the right to claim he’s the best junior heavyweight in the company.

And in the main event, Sanada will attempt to fend off a challenge to his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship from Yota Tsuji. While Sanada had to break free from Los Ingobernables de Japon  to take his game to the next level, Tsuji is attempting to do just the opposite, saying he wants to join LIJ while trying to bring home the top prize in NJPW.

It should be an exciting night with a title change or two and perhaps a couple of surprises before it’s all said and done, not to mention the reveal of the G1 Climax 33 lineups.

You know what would be a cool way for a wrestling fan to end a Friday night (or kick one off, if you’re young enough for such things)? The Young Bucks vs. Aussie Open on free TV. Lo and behold, that’s what we’ve got on this episode of AEW Rampage.

That’s the good stuff, baby. Also good stuff is Action Andretti, everyone’s favorite out of nowhere story, back in … ahem, action. He’s taking on Sammy Guevara in what should be a real test of his in-ring chops.

Plus there’s the not so small detail of Revolution being less than 10 days away. There’s room on the card for a few more matches, so we’ll see if this episode confirms some.
