Lamar Jackson makes NFL history with dominant performance in 34-10 win over Texans

Lamar Jackson was dominant from start to finish and will likely win his second NFL MVP after making NFL history in Ravens 34-10 win over the Houston Texans

Lamar Jackson was on another level from start to finish and will likely win his second NFL MVP in the coming weeks.

In Saturday’s win, Jackson accounted for four total touchdowns while becoming the first player in NFL history to log two rushing touchdowns, two passing touchdowns, 100 yards rushing, and 100 yards passing in the same game.

The stat line is a credit to offensive coordinator Todd Monken and the Ravens’ ability to develop a scheme that features what the dual-threat quarterback does best.

The Ravens avoided the repeat of 2019, advancing to the AFC title game after dominating the Houston Texans at M&T Bank Stadium.

The win gave Baltimore two wins over DeMeco Ryan’s team, and the combined scores of 56-19 provide insight into how far Houston has to climb before they start thinking about championship Sunday.

In all, Jackson accounted for 252 yards, four total touchdowns, and a `121.8 quarterback rating on the night while getting Baltimore one step closer to a Super Bowl appearance.

Ravens to sit Lamar Jackson in season finale vs. Steelers; Tyler Huntley to start at QB

With Baltimore locking up the No. 1 seed in the AFC, the #Ravens are resting Lamar Jackson, and starting Tyler Huntley against the #Steelers

Lamar Jackson was just named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week, and his five-touchdown performance in a 56-19 win over the Dolphins will be the last thing MVP voters see in the regular season.

With Baltimore having wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the AFC, John Harbaugh is starting Tyler Huntley in the season finale against the Steelers (9-7) at M&T Bank Stadium.

Jackson dominated Miami in Week 17, passing for 321 yards and five touchdowns on 18 of 21, for a perfect 158.3 passer rating. He added another 35 yards on six carries on the ground.

Jackson will finish this likely MVP season with 3,678 yards passing, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, and his 65.3 QBR is good for fourth in the NFL.

He also logged a team-high 821 yards rushing and five touchdowns.

John Harbaugh is noncommittal on Lamar Jackson playing in season finale vs. Steelers

The Baltimore Ravens are unsure if star quarterback Lamar Jackson will play in the season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers

Baltimore is 12-3, the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC, and they’ll enter Week 18 against the Steelers with nothing to officially play for.

Such a scenario offers the opportunity for John Harbaugh to rest his starters.

Still, as the week of preparation begins, the Raven’s head coach is noncommittal on the status of MVP candidate Lamar Jackson.

The Ravens clinched the AFC North title and the AFC’s No. 1 seed in Sunday’s 56-19 win over the Miami Dolphins.

“We’ve got to kind of work through the injury part of it first,” Harbaugh said. “That’ll take us probably 24 to 48 hours to get a real handle on that and then we’ll make those decisions. We’re not going to keep it a secret. We’ll let you know what we’re going to do once we start practicing [on Wednesday].”

One perceived benefit of earning the first-round bye is that if Jackson doesn’t play, he and other Baltimore starters would have at least a 19-day break between games.

The Ravens will host a divisional round game on Jan. 20 or 21.

Ravens’ WR Zay Flowers on Lamar Jackson: ‘That’s the MVP’

Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers called quarterback Lamar Jackson the MVP of the NFL

The Baltimore Ravens have played good football all season long in 2023, putting together a 12-3 record. A big part of why they’re playing so well is quarterback Lamar Jackson, who has taken multiple steps forward in the offense of new offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

“[Lamar Jackson] can do everything. You [saw] it tonight. He ran it; he threw it; he led the team. That’s the MVP. You lead your team, you have the best record in the NFL, and he just comes out and continues to come out and do what he [does] game in and game out even though people [say], ‘He can’t do this. He can’t do that,’ and he comes out and proves them wrong every time.”

There has been plenty of discourse surrounding Jackson and the MVP award, which would be his second if he were to win it. Baltimore wide receiver Zay Flowers supported his quarterback regarding who he believes is winning the award when talking about how good of a player he is.

Ravens prove Brock Purdy is not so perfect after all with 33-19 win over 49ers

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and DC Mike MacDonald had a perfect scheme for Kyle Shanahan’s offensive attack in week 16

The Baltimore Ravens forced San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy into four interceptions thrown Sunday night. As expected, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald had a perfect scheme for Kyle Shanahan’s offensive attack.

Throughout, the Niners attempted to use the swing pass and outside zone runs to get running back Christian McCaffrey and skills player Deebo Samuel into space. What they couldn’t account for was the speed of the Ravens’ defense.

The dynamics of linebacker Patrick Queen were on full display in week 16. The Ravens’ defense pounced on the Niners, making open-field tackles and playing with intense awareness.

Queen and inside linebacker, Roquan Smith combined for 15 tackles on Monday night alone.

The veteran experience of head coach Harbaugh is what fueled the Ravens throughout this matchup. Purdy, while performing exceptionally this season, was not prepared to deal with the tenacity and speed of the Ravens’ defense.

The Ravens prevailed convincingly and quarterback Lamar Jackson had some choice words for the media after the win.

Myles Garrett on Joe Burrow: He’s produced at a higher level than Lamar Jackson

Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett says Joe Burrow has done more in his career than Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson

Myles Garrett is on his way to Baltimore and added more fuel to Sunday’s fire, giving the Ravens more bulletin board material.

After stating earlier in the week that he would take Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow over Ravens star Lamar Jackson, Garrett doubled down on his take and attempted to explain why.

Burrow has played four seasons in Cincinnati, earning a trip to the Super Bowl, throwing for 13,635 yards and 94 touchdowns, being selected to play in 1 Pro Bowl, and winning the 2021 Comeback Player of the Year award.

Burrow has a passer rating 90.6 with 1,861 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions in 8 games this season.

The 2019 NFL MVP award winner, Jackson has played six seasons for the Ravens, throwing 14,163 yards and 110 touchdowns.

Jackson has been selected to play in 2 Pro Bowls, but he’s looking for his first playoff run as a starting quarterback.

This season, Jackson is again an MVP favorite, as he enters Week 10 with a passer rating of 100.8 with 1,954 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions in 9 games this season.

5 updated reasons why Lamar Jackson will win the 2023 NFL MVP award

We’re looking at five reasons why Baltimore #Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will win the NFL MVP award in 2023 via @Thacover2NFL

In 2019, Lamar Jackson became the second player in NFL history to be a unanimous league MVP.   Now, a new chapter has arrived, and the Ravens star quarterback is primed to repeat history after getting off to another fast start.

After a contentious offseason, all is well after Baltimore signed him to a five-year, $260 million extension that makes him the third-highest-paid quarterback per year in the league.

They’ve surrounded him with the best offensive talent he has had during his tenure.

John Harbaugh overhauled the scheme by hiring offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who, in the same role with the University of Georgia, helped the Bulldogs win two straight national championships.

Last season, in 12 games, Jackson passed for 2,242 passing yards (186.8 per game). He was 203-for-326 (62.3%), with 17 TD passes and seven interceptions, and had 112 carries for 764 yards and three touchdowns.

This season, he’s off to another dominant start while being efficient and accurate.

Jackson is +400 to win the NFL’s MVP award in 2023, the third-best odds in the league behind Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes.

We’re giving you five updated reasons why he’ll return and win the award for the second time in his career.
