Nightly NBA player props: Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Lakers, Nov 2

Detailing which player props to take in Tuesday’s Rockets-Lakers matchup.

The NBA’s late-night Halloween matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets provided the ultimate trick-or-treat for bettors. The Lakers (-11.5) led by as many 28 points in the fourth quarter before a spirited effort from Houston’s young guys cut the deficit to as little as 12 by the final minute of the game. Kenyon Martin Jr. sealed the bad beat when his reverse layup with 36 seconds remaining put the Rockets within ten points, covering the spread as the Lakers dribbled out the clock.

The two squads will meet for the second time in three nights on Tuesday at Staples Center for another matchup between youth and experience. The Lakers (-9.5) are barely single-digit favorites while the Rockets enter at +410 on the moneyline. Let’s take a look at which players are set to deliver on Tipico Sportsbook‘s player props.

Prediction

Lakers 124, Rockets 114

Moneyline (ML)

The Lakers have been sputtering a bit as of late, going 5-4 in their last nine games without more than two wins in a row since January 10-13. The Rockets have won three straight and are 6-2 in their last eight.

While Los Angeles may not be playing that well, the Lakers will most likely get it done on Thursday night at home, where they’re 17-6 this season. That doesn’t mean you should bet on them, though. The moneyline of -334 isn’t worth the risk against a good Rockets team, so I’d PASS.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on the Lakers returns a profit of $2.99.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Lakers are 7.5-point favorites over the Rockets, the eighth straight time they’ve been favored. The last time they were underdogs was against the Rockets last month, a game they won 124-115. In their last 10 games, both teams are only 5-5 ATS, but the Lakers have been better in that department this season (26-22-1).

The spread offers much better upside than the moneyline, which is why I’d take the LAKERS (-110) to cover the 7.5-point margin. If the Rockets rule out Westbrook, that line could grow, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

The over/under is 236.5 points, the highest of any game tonight. Both teams have been hitting the over lately, though, with the total going over in five of the Rockets’ last seven and 10 of the Lakers’ last 12.

In the Lakers’ last four home games, the total has gone over four times, and it’s gone over in three of the Rockets’ last four road games. Bet the OVER 236.5 (-110).

Prediction

Rockets 114, Lakers 108

Moneyline (ML)

Despite the Lakers having a better record this season, the ROCKETS (-129) are the moneyline favorites in this contest. Houston has been phenomenal at home, winning 14 of their 19 games at Toyota Center. With Davis’ status still up in the air, I’m taking the Rockets to win Saturday night.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The ROCKETS (-1.5, -115) are less than a basket favorite. While Houston has struggled against the spread of late, this line is so low that their recent history against the spread doesn’t really come into play. Instead, their 5-1 record in their last six home games is more relevant. I like the Rockets to out-shoot the Lakers in what should be a close contest.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total for this Western Conference showdown is set at 232.5, which feels a little bit too high. While both teams have outstanding offenses, the Lakers have the fourth-best scoring defense in the NBA. That should help keep the score down as the Lakers will want to play a slower pace in this game. I like the UNDER 232.5 (+105) to hit in Houston.
