Bills bring Lafayette Pitts back to practice squad again

Buffalo Bills sign CB Lafayette Pitts to practice squad.

The Buffalo Bills made a minor roster move involving their practice squad on Monday. The team announced that cornerback Lafayette Pitts was signed to their taxi unit.

Pitts should be a familiar name to Buffalo, as he’s had a couple of tenures with the team, mostly contributing on special teams. Pitts, 28, spent parts of 2017 and 2018 on the Bills’ 53-man roster.

Just earlier in 2020 in October, Pitts had another workout with the Bills and signed to the team’s practice squad for a few weeks. He was then released to make room for cornerback Daryl Worley.

However, Worley was signed off Buffalo’s practice squad last week as the Raiders picked him up. Because of that, the Bills had an open spot for Pitts to sign to their practice squad and no corresponding move was needed.

Pitt, 28, last played on the Bills in 2018. Buffalo picked him up on waivers in October 2017 and Pitts then spent the rest of that year and the ensuing season in Buffalo.

During him time in western New York, Pitts was mostly just a core special teams player.  In his second season with the Bills, Pitts, who played in all 16 games that year, played in 64 percent of Buffalo’s special teams snaps.

While Pitts does have that prior experience with the Bills, his time in Buffalo was not under current special teams coordinator Heath Farwell, who was hired just last season.

Pitts had worked out with the Bills late last week.
