These are far and away the best teams in La Liga, and both teams have a world-class finisher.

At the same time, both defenses are the best in the league as well with Barcelona giving up 1 goal through 8 games. Despite the level of competition not being quite there, that stat is mighty impressive.

With a 0-2-1 record, Barcelona has struggled against top-tier sides in the Champions League. Real Madrid hasn’t truly been tested this season aside from a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid.

These teams are close, and for this value, I’d play the draw.

Over/Under (O/U)

The defenses are just too good here. Barcelona has allowed 1 goal all season and is a very top-heavy offensive side with one playing making up 45% of their goals.

Real Madrid has a more diverse attacking side, but Barcelona has veteran defenders that should be able to limit them. Barcelona has allowed more than 1 expected goal in just 2 of 8 league matches.

Similarly, Osasuna is unlikely to get on the board against an experienced Real defense and a relatively weak offense, so I wouldn’t back them to even get this one to a draw either.

If there’s one thing Osasuna has been good  at this season, it’s defending. With Benzema out with knee problems, it should be a far easier task. He had 27 of the team’s 80 goals last season.

This isn’t my favorite play of the match, but it is one I’d sprinkle on.

Sevilla is coming off a draw against the 6th-ranked Villarreal, which is ahead of Atletico in the rankings, so Sevilla can clearly compete. The home side has tied 3 of 8 matches through all competitions this season.

Atletico is just 2-1-1 on the road this season, so it hasn’t dominated opponents. Madrid only has had more than .6 expected goals in 1 of those 4 matches as well which means it hasn’t been that much better, especially on the road.

The play here is either a draw or betting on Madrid to come out on top as they are the better side. However, I’d prefer to play the total in this matchup.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-160).

Obviously, given the juice, this one should feel good. Atletico is the better team, finishing 3rd in the league a season ago. They have played 4 road games this season and gone under this total in 3 of the 4.

In 38 games, they only gave up 43 goals last season, and they’re back with an elite defense, only having allowed 6 goals through 6 games.

Sevilla has allowed 11. While that sounds ugly, they are 1-1 on this total at home in league play, drawing Valladolid 1-1 and losing to Barcelona 3-0.

They only have 5 shots on goal in their 2 battles with sides in the league’s top-10 clubs. Their offense may not even have the firepower to even get on the scoreboard.

Considering that mixed with Madrid’s elite defense, I’ll back the Under 2.5 (-160) here.

Whenever you can get Real at this price, it’s worth something. Against top-4 teams on the road last season, Real was 3-1-0, taking on Barcelona twice away from home.

Their lone loss was to Atletico, but that was also coming off a Wednesday match against Man City in the Champions League semifinals, a game that went a full 120 minutes.

Real has handled teams easily this season with 15 goals and just 5 against.

Real has also dominated in terms of expected goals, which Atletico cannot say as even in their 4-1 in during their last league match they had fewer expected goals.

Atletico has had fewer expected goals in 2 of their 5 league matches. Against a team of Real’s caliber, I expect them to struggle. Given this price, I’d back REAL MADRID (+133).

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN OVER 2.5 (-107).

Real Madrid has gone over this total in every league match. Now, Atletico’s defense is among the best in the league, but they’ve also had just 2 clean sheets, often giving up at least 1 goal.

Real should get on the board, and at the same time, they have allowed 1 goal in every match, not having a clean sheet yet. Atletico has a few big-name strikes that need to produce in games like this.

Considering both teams have been solid offensively and not overly dominant defensively, I would back the OVER 2.5 (-107) in this one.

There’s not much reason to believe in Sevilla at this point.

For that reason, I’ll side with Barcelona. For starters, after that opening draw, they destroyed Real Sociedad which finished within the top-8 teams in La Liga last season. And that was on the road.

Sevilla, on the other hand, has struggled and has had fewer expected goals in 2 of their 3 matches this season. They have only scored 1 in each while Barcelona has averaged 4 in their last 2.

Barcelona has experience in the midfield with M Serio Busquets and a star between the posts in GK Marc-André ter Stegen. Given their speed and skill all over the field, they should come away with a win.

Barcelona is 1-0-0 on the road this season while Sevilla is 0-0-1 at home. Also, Sevilla has just 11 shots on target in 3 games, a concerning lack of offensive production.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN OVER 2.5 (-130).

Both teams have gone over this in 2 of 3 games, and Sevilla is struggling to defend, having allowed 5 goals in 3 matches.

If they can’t contain some of the lower-tier teams in the league, there’s not much hope that they can tame the mighty Barcelona attack.
