Vikings sign DE Curtis Weaver to futures deal, lose OL Kyle Hinton to Falcons

The Vikings added an edge rusher to a futures deal while losing an offensive lineman

During the offseason, teams sign players to futures contracts for the offseason program. The Minnesota Vikings have been securing plenty of talent for their offseason program and added one more by signing former Boise State defensive end Curtis Weaver.

A former fifth-round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins, Weaver was a star edge rusher at Boise State but hasn’t been able to put it together in the National Football League. He has played in one game and it came in 2021 with the Cleveland Browns.

Along with signing Weaver, the Vikings lost offensive lineman Kyle Hinton who signed a futures contract with the Atlanta Falcons. They gave him a $100,000 signing bonus to join the Falcons even though the Vikings did try to sign him.

The addition of Weaver brings the total number of futures contracts signed by the Vikings up to seven with the first six having signed on Monday.

Falcons sign OL Kyle Hinton to reserve/future contract

The #Falcons signed G Kyle Hinton to a reserve/future contract on Wednesday

The Atlanta Falcons signed guard Kyle Hinton to a reserve/future contract on Wednesday. Hinton, a seventh-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2020, has played in two career games.

The 24-year-old got some playing time in the Vikings’ Week 18 win over the Bears and could be a good stash for the Falcons down the road.

Hinton is the 19th player to sign a reserve/future contract with Atlanta thus far.

Vikings activate 2 from IR, elevate 2 others ahead of Week 18 vs. Bears

Both Smith Jr. and Bullard are officially back

The Minnesota Vikings have made a lot of roster moves over the past week and they continued that ahead on Sunday’s week 18 matchup against the Chicago Bears. As we had reported on Friday, the Vikings have officially activated both tight end Irv Smith Jr. and defensive end Jonathan Bullard.

Smith Jr. has been out since suffering a high ankle sprain against the Arizona Cardinals back in week eight. His addition will help the Vikings down the field and we could potentially see more 12 personnel to compensate for the season-ending Achilles injury to right tackle Brian O’Neill.

Bullard has been dealing with a bicep injury for most of the season and was on injured reserve for the last four weeks.

Along with both of those roster moves, the Vikings have elevated inside linebacker Ryan Connelly and center Kyle Hinton to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Bears.

Connelly hasn’t seen any game action since being activated from the physically unable to perform list and Hinton has been elevated twice prior, dressing for only one game.

The Minnesota Vikings are not only dealing with injury issues, but they are also trying to give their players a modicum of rest. They are doing so by rotating players in and out for a series at a time.

In order to help with that, along with some needed depth, the Viking are elevating center Kyle Hinton and defensive lineman T.J. Smith.

Hinton was elevated last week ahead of the Christmas Eve matchup against the New York Giants but they ended up deactivating him. He was there to provide depth due to the back injury to Garrett Bradbury.

Smith has yet to be activated this season. He played in one game with the Vikings in 2021.

Vikings elevate IOL Kyle Hinton from practice squad

The third-year player is set to see his first NFL snaps

With Garrett Bradbury out on Saturday afternoon against the New York Giants, the Minnesota Vikings have a contingency plan in place as they chose to activate IOL Kyle Hinton.

A seventh-round pick out of division two Washburn in 2020 Hinton was a left tackle in college but his size limitations standing at a shade under 6’3″. He has bulked up to 310 lbs over the course of his time in the NFL after being around 285 coming out of college.

Hinton has yet to play a snap in NFL game but he has the athletic profile to be successful. With how head coach Kevin O’Connell has played his offensive lineman this season, Hinton won’t see a snap on offense but will likely see some on special teams.

Vikings place TE Kyle Rudolph on IR, sign G Kyle Hinton to active roster

The Minnesota Vikings made some roster moves on Tuesday: one includes placing TE Kyle Rudolph on IR.

In what might be Kyle Rudolph’s last season with the Vikings, the tight end will not be able to play in Week 17.

Minnesota announced on Tuesday that it placed Rudolph on IR. The Vikings still have Irv Smith Jr., Tyler Conklin and Hale Hentges at the tight end position, barring any of those three suffering injuries.

The Vikings made another roster move on Tuesday. The team signed Kyle Hinton to the active roster. Hinton, a guard, had been on Minnesota’s practice squad this season.

He was taken in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL draft. Before that, Hinton played for Washburn, a Division II school in Topeka, Kansas.

In the offseason, Chad Graff of The Athletic projected Hinton as a dark horse to make the active roster, due to his performance in training camp.  In a pretty meaningless game for the Vikings, we may get to see Hinton’s potential on display.

The Athletic names a dark horse to make the Vikings roster

Minnesota Vikings rookies are attempting to make the NFL roster in what has been an unprecedented training camp.

Minnesota rookies have had to try and make the team amid the coronavirus pandemic. The virus has made it so that those players have less opportunities to impress the coaching staff than before.

There are no preseason games now. Various offseason programs were postponed, made remote or canceled, in addition to gyms and facilities being closed for long periods of time.

Despite that, rookies are avoiding the obstacles in their way in order to try and make the Vikings. Chad Graff of The Athletic reported that a rookie could be a dark horse to make the team: offensive lineman Kyle Hinton.

Here’s what Graff said about Hinton:

“Among the third-stringers, Hinton looks the most comfortable taking on NFL-level defenders. He likely won’t make the initial cut, but he’s certainly a practice-squad candidate and could surprise prognosticators.”

Hinton played for Washburn in college, a Division II school in Kansas. If he pans out for the Vikings, he could be a platoon lineman for 2020.

Vikings rookie roundup: List of draftees who have reportedly agreed to terms

The Minnesota Vikings reportedly agreed to terms with a good number of players in the team’s draft class recently.

Minnesota drafted a record-breaking 15 players in the 2020 NFL Draft. Despite that high total, the Vikings had reportedly agreed to terms with very few of their draftees — until Wednesday.

Before Wednesday, the only rookie in the team’s draft class who had reportedly signed was seventh-round quarterback Nate Stanley, a player out of Iowa, but since then, plenty of players have reached agreements, according to reports.

Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reported that nine rookies in Minnesota’s draft class have at least agreed to terms.

Here is the full list of players so far:

Vikings take Washburn guard Kyle Hinton at No. 253 in the NFL Draft

And with that the Vikings have selected their final player in a whirlwind draft. Please welcome guard Kyle Hinton!

Minnesota’s  offensive line has improved as of late, but it could always get better.

With the team’s final pick in the NFL Draft, the Vikings selected a possible depth player in Washburn guard Kyle Hinton. He was a four-time All-MIAA selection for offensive line.

Hinton is an enticing choice as a player from a Division I school. If he can compete for a spot on the offensive, I don’t think it will be in the starting five, but he could still add value as a reserve if he’s able to make the team.

Minnesota took LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson at No. 22 in this draft. Then, the team drafted TCU cornerback Jeff Gladney in the first round. The Vikings ended up taking Boise State tackle Ezra Cleveland in the following round.

After that, Minnesota drafted Mississippi State corner Cameron Dantzler, Baylor defensive tackle James Lynch, Oregon linebacker Troy Dye, Temple corner Harrison Hand, Miami wide receiver K.J. Osborn, Oregon State offensive lineman Blake Brandel, Michigan safety Josh Metellus, Michigan State defensive end Kenny Willekes, Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley and Mississippi State safety Brian Cole II. The team also made four trades during the NFL Draft.
