Next week’s UFC Fight Night 201 card suddenly has started to take a few hits to the lineup.

[autotag]Julian Marquez[/autotag] (9-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is out of his middleweight matchup against [autotag]Kyle Daukaus[/autotag] (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC). A person with knowledge of the matchup confirmed the news to MMA Junkie on Tuesday. The person requested anonymity because the UFC has not yet made a formal announcement.

In addition, [autotag]Austin Lingo[/autotag] (9-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is out of his featherweight fight against [autotag]Jonathan Pearce[/autotag] (11-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC). It is not yet known if Daukaus or Pearce will remain on the card against new opponents.

UFC Fight Night 201 takes place Feb. 19 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.

Marquez has post-fight bonuses in two straight fights. He submitted Maki Pitolo and, most recently, Sam Alvey at UFC on ABC 2 in April 2021. Marquez was scheduled to face Jordan Wright at UFC Fight Night 195 this past October, but the fight was canceled when Marquez withdrew with non-COVID health issues.

Daukaus, a former CFFC middleweight champion, is coming off a no contest against Holland this past October. Originally a submission win for Daukaus, the decision was overturned after replays revealed an accidental clash of heads knocked Holland unconscious and led to the fight-ending sequence.

Daukaus was supposed to fight Holland in a rematch at UFC Fight Night 197 this past November. Holland had to pull out with an injury. Then replacement Roman Dolidze was pulled due to COVID-19 protocols. Now his fight with Marquez, which was booked shortly after the Dolidze cancellation, is off.

UFC targets Kyle Daukaus vs. Julian Marquez for Feb. 19 event

Kyle Daukaus won’t get to compete this Saturday, but he already has his next fight booked.

[autotag]Kyle Daukaus[/autotag] won’t get to compete Saturday, but he already has his next fight booked.

Daukaus (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC), who had his UFC Fight Night 197 matchup with Roman Dolidze scrapped due to COVID-19 protocols, has verbally agreed to meet [autotag]Julian Marquez[/autotag] (9-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at a UFC “Fight Night” event Feb. 19, which is expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the targeted booking but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Former CFFC middleweight champion Daukaus is coming off a no contest against Kevin Holland in October. Originally called a submission win for Daukaus, the decision was overturned after the replay revealed an accidental clash of heads knocked Holland unconscious and led to the fight-ending sequence. The pair was scheduled to rematch Saturday at UFC Fight Night 197, but Holland withdrew due to injury. Dolidze replaced Holland, but the fight was removed from the card after Dolidze was forced out due to COVID-19 protocols.

Boasting a 100 percent finishing rate, Marquez has notched bonuses in two straight fights. He submitted Maki Pitolo and, most recently, Sam Alvey at UFC on ABC 2 in April. Marquez was scheduled to face Jordan Wright at UFC Fight Night 195 in October, but the fight was canceled when Marquez withdrew with non-COVID health issues.

With the addition, the Feb. 19 UFC lineup now includes:

  • Chad Anheliger vs. Jesse Strader
  • Austin Lingo vs. Jonathan Pearce
  • Chas Skelly vs. Mark Striegl
  • Kyle Daukaus vs. Julian Marquez

Kyle Daukaus vs. Roman Dolize scrapped from UFC Fight Night 197

The UFC Fight Night 197 event will proceed with 11 bouts.

The previously scheduled matchup between [autotag]Kyle Daukaus[/autotag] and [autotag]Roman Dolidze[/autotag] is no longer a part of the UFC Fight Night 197 lineup.

The fight was scrapped Wednesday after the promotion removed Doldize (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) due to COVID-19 protocols. As a result of the limited timeline, the promotion was unable to locate a replacement to fight Daukaus (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC). The event will proceed with 11 bouts.

A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the cancellation Wednesday to MMA Junkie after an initial report by MMA Fighting but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

UFC Fight Night 197 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card airs on ESPN+.

Daukaus was originally supposed to fight Kevin Holland in a rematch of their Oct. 2 showdown that ended after an accidental clash of heads was deemed via video replay to have lead to the finish. However, Holland withdrew due to injury and in stepped Doldize.

Dolidze will have to wait a little longer to fight for his second victory in a row. Following his lone UFC loss to date against Trevin Giles in March, Doldize bounced back in June when he defeated Laureano Staropoli via unanimous decision.

With the addition, the UFC Fight Night 197 lineup includes:

  • Max Holloway vs. Yair Rodriguez
  • Marcos Rogerio de Lima vs. Ben Rothwell
  • Leah Letson vs. Felicia Spencer
  • Julio Arce vs. Song Yadong
  • Joel Alvarez vs. Thiago Moises
  • Cynthia Calvillo vs. Andrea Lee
  • Miguel Baeza vs. Khaos Williams
  • Collin Anglin vs. Sean Woodson
  • Cortney Casey vs. Liana Jojua
  • Rafael Alves vs. Marc Diakiese
  • Da Un Jung vs. Kennedy Nzechukwu

With Eryk Anders out, Roman Dolidze vs. Kyle Daukaus targeted for UFC Fight Night 197

Kyle Daukaus lost his opponent Kevin Holland due to injury days ago.

A middleweight round-robin is unfolding on the UFC Fight Night 197 lineup.

With [autotag]Eryk Anders[/autotag] out, [autotag]Roman Dolidze[/autotag] is now expected to face [autotag]Kyle Daukaus[/autotag], whose previously-scheduled opponent, Kevin Holland, recently withdrew from the Nov. 13 card due to injury. Contracts are not yet signed but verbal agreements are in place and the bout is expected to be finalized in the coming days.

Two people with knowledge of the change informed MMA Junkie of the newly-targeted booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

UFC Fight Night 197 takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The entire card streams on ESPN+.

Georgia’s Dolidze (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is 1-1 since he dropped to middleweight in March. Since his UFC debut in July 2020, Dolidze has picked up wins over Khadis Ibragimov, John Allan, and most recently Laureano Staropoli.

Daukaus (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) most recently competed in October when his fight vs. Kevin Holland was declared a no contest. Although Daukaus tapped Holland midway through Round 1, the finish was deemed to have directly stemmed from a fight-changing, incidental clash of heads.

With the change, the UFC Fight Night 197 lineup includes:

  • Max Holloway vs. Yair Rodriguez
  • Jessica Eye vs. Andrea Lee
  • Marcos Rogerio de Lima vs. Ben Rothwell
  • Philipe Lins vs. Ovince Saint Preux
  • Tucker Lutz vs. Lando Vannata
  • Leah Letson vs. Felicia Spencer

Kevin Holland injured, out of Kyle Dauakus rematch at UFC Fight Night 197

The Kevin Holland vs. Kyle Daukaus rematch will have to wait, if it still happens.

[autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag] and [autotag]Kyle Daukaus[/autotag] might rematch at some point, but it won’t be at UFC Fight Night 197.

Due to an undisclosed injury, Holland (21-8 MMA, 8-5 UFC) has been forced to withdraw from his Nov. 13 bout against Daukaus (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Two people with knowledge of the withdrawal confirmed the change to MMA Junkie on Wednesday but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

The expectation is that Daukaus will remain on the card against a new opponent.

The two middleweights fought at UFC Fight Night 193 on Oct. 2, but the bout ended in a no contest after an accidental clash of heads reversed the decision on video review.

With the change, the UFC Fight Night 193 lineup includes:

  • Max Holloway vs. Yair Rodriguez
  • Jessica Eye vs. Andrea Lee
  • Marcos Rogerio de Lima vs. Ben Rothwell

Kevin Holland vs. Kyle Daukaus rematch in the works for UFC Fight Night on Nov. 13

The UFC wasted no time putting together a rematch between Kevin Holland and Kyle Daukaus.

The UFC has wasted no time putting together a rematch between [autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag] and [autotag]Kyle Daukaus[/autotag].

After an accidental clash of heads led to a no contest at UFC Fight Night 193 this past Saturday, Holland (21-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) and Daukaus (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) have verbally agreed to run it back.

The rematch is expected to take place at UFC Fight Night on Nov. 13 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Broadcast plans for the card haven’t been announced.

MMA Junkie confirmed that agreements for the sequel are in place with multiple people close to the situation following an initial report from UFC broadcast partner ESPN. The people requested anonymity because UFC has yet to make the fight official.

Holland’s rough run continued with the no contest. After losing back-to-back main events to Marvin Vettori and Derek Brunson, he took some time off to work on his wrestling, teaming up with former UFC champion Johny Hendricks.

Although Holland showed some marked improvements in the early stages of the fight with Daukaus, everything got derailed when he was badly stunned by the accidental head clash and subsequently choked out. After the Nevada Athletic Commission reviewed the foul, though, the fight was deemed a no contest.

Daukaus took missing out on what would’ve been the biggest win of his career in stride. He believed he should’ve got the win, but said he was happy to run it back with Holland, likely in early 2022. That timeline was clearly expedited, though, as they will now fight in just five weeks.

The latest lineup for UFC Fight Night on Nov. 13 includes:

  • Max Holloway vs. Yair Rodriguez
  • Jessica Eye vs. Andrea Lee
  • Marcos Rogerio de Lima vs. Ben Rothwell
  • Philipe Lins vs. Ovince Saint Preux
  • Tucker Lutz vs. Lando Vannata
  • Leah Letson vs. Felicia Spencer
  • Collin Anglin vs. Sean Woodson
  • Jailton Almeida vs. Danilo Marques
  • Julio Arce vs. Song Yadong
  • Joel Alvarez vs. Thiago Moises
  • Kyle Daukaus vs. Kevin Holland

Kyle Daukaus disagrees with no-contest ruling vs. Kevin Holland, interested rematch in early 2022

Kyle Daukaus reacts to the no-contest ruling of Kevin Holland bout at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 193.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Kyle Daukaus[/autotag] is not happy with the way things went down on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 193.

The UFC middleweight submitted his opponent Kevin Holland with a rear-naked choke, but his fight was ruled a no-contest instead of a win. Daukaus (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and Holland (21-7 MMA, 8-4 UFC) accidentally clashed heads prior to the finishing sequence. Holland was hurt and fell face-first to the canvas, which allowed Daukaus to get his back and eventually sink in the choke.

Daukaus feels he should’ve been awarded the win and is not happy with the no-contest ruling.

“It just annoys me,” Daukaus told reporters at the UFC Fight Night 193 post-fight press conference. “He did recover from the head-butt in a way, and Dan (the referee) didn’t say anything while we were in there. He was still fighting, so it was fine, to me it was fine.

“If that would’ve happened to me, it would have been fine. If he would’ve stood back up and if he would’ve gotten back to his feet and knock me senseless, they would’ve made it a big deal about him on ESPN saying, ‘Oh, he suffered a head-butt and then got up and knocked me out.’ But because he recovers off of a head-butt gives up his back and I choke him, I get a no-contest.”

[lawrence-related id=1212860,1212645]

Daukaus would like a rematch with Holland to get a more conclusive result. For now, he’ll shift focus to his brother to help prepare for his main event bout against Derrick Lewis on Dec. 18, but thinks early 2022 could be a good date to run things back with Holland.

“It will bother me and it’s still going to bother me,” Daukaus said. “It’s going to haunt me until I get the win, so it’s only more motivation throughout training.”

UFC Fight Night 193 results: Kevin Holland vs. Kyle Daukaus declared a no-contest after accidental clash of heads

An accidental headbutt rules Kevin Holland vs. Kyle Daukaus a no-contest at UFC Fight Night 193.

LAS VEGAS – An unfortunate situation led to no winner in the [autotag]Kevin Holland[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Kyle Daukaus[/autotag] middleweight bout.

The fight was declared a no-contest after an accidental clash of heads led to Holland (21-7 MMA, 8-4 UFC) getting badly rocked and then shortly after submitted by Daukaus (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC).

The bout served as the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 193 in Las Vegas. The entire card streamed on ESPN+.

It was a competitive contest up until the clash of heads. Both fighters were landing good shots and Holland was doing a good job at defending Daukaus’ takedowns.

Halfway through the round, both fighters went in for a takedown, and the two collided heads, with Daukaus’s forehead smashing into Holland’s chin.

Holland was visibly hurt from the clash, as he fell face-first to the canvas. Daukaus immediately jumped on him and followed up with ground-and-pound. The referee hesitated to stop the fight due to the illegal shot, but allowed the action to continue.

Holland seemed to briefly recover, but Daukaus was all over him with submission attempts. Daukaus eventually worked his way to the back and tapped out Holland with a rear-naked choke.

The commission officials and referees present gathered and discussed the head clash after the conclusion of the fight, as they reviewed the replay. They deemed it an accidental headbutt and ruled it was a no-contest result.

[lawrence-related id=1212773,1212645]

Holland entered the fight on a two-fight losing streak, which had snapped a five-fight unbeaten run that marked an impressive 2020 campaign. Daukaus was also hoping to get back in his winning ways, as he was coming off a decision loss to Phil Hawes back in May.

The card can be viewed on ESPN+ with the prelims at 4 p.m. ET and the main card at 7 p.m. ET.

UFC Fight Night 193 Holland vs. Daukaus: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Holland (21-7-0) | Daukaus (10-2-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

HOLLAND (-180) is right at my personal limit for a money line play, but he is a strong play. He holds the reach advantage, and as long as he can keep this fight upright he is going to get the job done.

Daukaus is a beast on the mat, although Holland does have a pair of submission wins at the UFC level that show he can get it done on the canvas if push comes to shove.

Over/Under (O/U)

Playing YES (-145): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is the way to go. Three of Holland’s last five fights have gone the distance, while Daukaus hasn’t had a fight finish inside the distance since arriving at the UFC level.

As such, I like HOLLAND ON POINTS (+195) for the method of victory, giving you a good chance to nearly double up if he can win by wowing the judges.
