S K’Von Wallace and CB Artie Burns to return to Seahawks practice

S K’Von Wallace and CB Artie Burns to return to Seahawks practice

The Seattle Seahawks made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday morning. The team has designated safety K’Von Wallace and cornerback Artie Burns to return to practice. The pair have been on the injured reserve list for quite some time.

Wallace was placed on IR after injuring his ankle against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 9. Wallace has spent a little more time than usual on IR, since when he was put on the list the Seahawks were entering into their Bye Week, and still had to miss four games. The Week 15 showdown against the Green Bay Packers was always going to be his earliest return, and it seems this timeline could still be met.

As for Artie Burns, it has been a longer road for him. Burns has been with the Seahawks organization since 2022, constantly spending time on the practice squad or being inactive. He made a start this year in Week 6 against the 49ers and performed well, before landing on the IR with a toe injury.

It remains to be seen if either player will be ready to go for SNF this weekend, but the fact both are able to return to practice is a good sign. Of course, we at Seahawks Wire will keep everyone posted on their health status throughout the week.

Seahawks place DB K’Von Wallace on IR, add NT to 53-man roster

Seahawks place DB K’Von Wallace on IR, add NT to 53-man roster

The Seattle Seahawks announced various roster moves on Monday afternoon. Rotational safety K’Von Wallace was placed on IR. Wallace will now miss a minimum of four contests after injuring his ankle during a kickoff against the Los Angeles Rams in a Week 10 defeat. The earliest he can return is against the Green Bay Packers in Week 15.

Wallace’s injury represents the latest setback in Mike Macdonald’s ravaged secondary. Starting safety Rayshawn Jenkins remains on IR with a hand injury and will be sidelined for at least one more contest. Versatile defensive back Artie Burns is also on IR.

Coby Bryant and Julian Love had been the starting safeties prior to the Seahawks’ Week 10 bye. With Wallace now joining Jenkins and Burns on IR, Jerrick Reed II and Ty Okada (practice squad) could be forced to play rotational roles behind the makeshift starters.

Elsewhere, the Seahawks filled Wallace’s roster spot by claiming nose tackle Brandon Pili off waivers. A former undrafted free agent out of USC, Pili previously spent time with the Miami Dolphins. The big bodied interior defender totaled 99 defensive snaps across two seasons in Miami, accumulating six total tackles.

Fellow nose tackle Cameron Young was recently placed on IR by Seattle. That offers Pili an opportunity to play some rotational snaps behind Johnathan Hankins. General manager John Schneider continues to churn the roster.

Seahawks lost S K’Von Wallace to injury in Week 9 loss to Rams

Seahawks lost S K’Von Wallace to injury in Week 9 loss to Rams

The Seattle Seahawks entered Sunday’s Week 9 divisional showdown versus the Los Angeles Rams with several injuries in the secondary. Starting safety Rayshawn Jenkins and versatile defensive back Artie Burns are currently on IR. Mike Macdonald’s defense was unfortunately dealt another blow in the loss to the Rams.

K’Von Wallace has been playing a part-time spot on defense as a result of all the injuries. Wallace played a season-high 27 snaps in Week 6, and had maintained a rotational role in Weeks 7 and 8 entering Sunday, per snap-count data collected by The Football Guys. As the injuries continue mounting, Wallace exited Sunday’s game versus the Rams on an injury cart and did not return.

Wallace was officially diagnosed with an ankle injury.

The injury occurred on a kickoff return during the second half. Wallace immediately removed his shoe after suffering the injury and was seen avoiding placing any weight on his weight leg. That may indicate that Wallace will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Wallace played 10 defensive snaps before exiting the contest. A utility player, the former Clemson standout had logged an additional 16 snaps on special teams. Wallace may be joining Burns and Jenkins, forcing the Seahawks to get even more creative in the defensive backfield.

Seahawks need Coby Bryant, K’Von Wallace to step up after latest DB injuries

Seahawks need Coby Bryant, K’Von Wallace to step up after latest DB injuries

The Seattle Seahawks continue to deal with injuries in their secondary. General manager John Schneider placed starting safety Rayshawn Jenkins on IR earlier this week, sidelining him for a minimum of four contests. Jenkins is currently third on the team in tackles with 38. In response, Seattle promoted safety Ty Okada, who played well during the preseason, from the practice squad to the active roster. They also signed second-year UDFA cornerback Eric Garror to the practice squad.

Elsewhere, starting cornerback Riq Woolen remains absent from practice with an ankle injury and is trending towards being a game-time decision against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. All these injuries and roster moves will force head coach Mike Macdonald to get creative with his secondary usage. The Seahawks need players like Coby Bryant and K’Von Wallace to step up.

With Artie Burns also on IR, and Tre Brown injured, the Seahawks must shuffle defensive personnel. Bryant could play nickel corner, a position he was more familiar with before making the transition to safety. That would catapult Wallace into a starting safety role opposite Julian Love. The third safety spot could belong to Okada or Jerrick Reed II, the latter of which would need to be officially activated after having his practice window recently triggered.

Bryant has played just 49 defensive snaps this season, and Wallace has been capped at 89. Okada and Reed are yet to make their debuts this season. Macdonald and defensive coordinator Aden Durde may rely on Bryant and Wallace to be near every-down starters against the Falcons.

Seahawks DB K’Von Wallace builds momentum by ending practice with pick 6

Seahawks DB K’Von Wallace builds momentum by ending practice with pick 6

Seattle Seahawks veteran defensive back K’Von Wallace has been one of the bigger surprise performers at training camp. The former Clemson standout has consistently made plays while proving he belongs on the 53 man roster. Wallace ended Tuesday’s practice with a pick-six return touchdown of quarterback Sam Howell, according to multiple media members in attendance.

General manager John Schneider signed Wallace to a one-year contract earlier this offseason worth just $1.5 million. His arrival was part of a major overhaul at safety that included cutting ties with veterans Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs. The likes of Julian Love, Rayshawn Jenkins, Coby Bryant, and Wallace, are ushering the Seahawks forward at safety.

Wallace’s pick-six interception to end Wednesday’s practice wasn’t his lone standout play of camp or the preseason. He’s routinely found himself in spots to make game-changing plays. In the Week 1 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, Wallace delivered a jolting hit on this inaccurate throw that resulted in an interception for Bryant.

Wallace was an underrated performer for the Tennessee Titans last season. He totaled nearly 500 snaps in coverage for their defense after the midseason trade of Kevin Byard, and earned Pro Football Focus grades of 70.7 in coverage and 68.1 for his overall defensive work. Schneider got good value on Wallace via his one-year contract.

Wallace has played more than 50 defensive snaps for the Seahawks through two preseason contests. He’s been especially strong when coming downhill versus the run, earning a PFF score 77.0 as a run defender. Wallace has been strong in coverage too, allowing a pedestrian passer rating of just 83.3.

The Seahawks will finalize their initial 53-man roster by Tuesday’s mid-afternoon deadline. Wallace, a veteran journeyman, doesn’t appear to be at risk. Wallace is likely to serve as a versatile and rotational defender for Mike Macdonald this season.

A former Clemson Tiger has found a new home in the NFL.

According to multiple reports, former Clemson safety K’Von Wallace has agreed to a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. Wallace is on the move after spending time with the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans last season, playing in 17 games with 12 starts.

Wallace was the Philadelphia Eagles’ fourth-round pick (127th overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft. He played his first three seasons in the NFL with the Eagles before being cut. During his NFL career, Wallace recorded 153 tackles, eight pass breakups, and an interception.

The safety was a two-time National Championship winner with the Tigers, totaling 178 career tackles (5.5 for loss), 21 pass breakups, five interceptions, two sacks, and two forced fumbles over 59 games (36 starts).

Former Tennessee Titans safety K’Von Wallace has reportedly found a new home.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Wallace is signing a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks after meeting with the team recently. The financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Wallace was brought in by Tennessee in 2023 via waivers following the Kevin Byard trade and performed admirably in a significant role.

During his stint in Tennessee, he allowed completions on 14-of-17 passes thrown his way, but gave up just 7.5 yards per reception and posted a Pro Football Focus coverage grade of 70.7 overall. Adding to that, he always seemed to be around the football.

Wallace is a quality depth piece that I was hoping the Titans would bring back, but clearly that wasn’t in the cards.

Tennessee needs to add at least one player at the position moving forward. The team has been linked to former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons and has hosted ex-New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye for a visit.

Seahawks sign former Titans DB K’Von Wallace to 1-year deal

It’s a one-year deal, according to Tom Pelissero at NFL Network.

The Seahawks have signed former Eagles, Cardinals and Titans defensive back K’Von Wallace. It’s a one-year deal, according to Tom Pelissero at NFL Network.

Wallace (5-foot-11, 205 pounds) played his college ball at Clemson, where he totaled five interceptions in 45 games. He was then picked by Philadelphia in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft. Wallace spent three seasons with the Eagles, appearing in 45 games but only getting seven starts. From there, he moved on to the Cardinals for one season, and last season he was with the Titans. All together he has played in 62 NFL games with 19 starts.

Signing Wallace continues the Seahawks’ theme of adding diverse coverage players for the back end of their defense. Like Rayshawn Jenkins, he’s gotten high grades for his coverage and he can play multiple positions.

Seattle may no longer need to pick a safety in the 2024 NFL draft, with Jenkins and Wallace effectively replacing Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams. Seattle still has plenty of youth at this spot on their depth chart in Jerrick Reed, Coby Bryant and Ty Okada.

2 Titans hit with fines for Week 13 infractions

Two Titans players were fined for infractions against the Colts in Week 13.

Two Tennessee Titans players received fines for infractions during the Week 13 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Safety Amani Hooker was hit with the biggest fine, losing $13,659 for an unsportsmanlike conduct stemming from a throat slash gesture he did following his pick-two.

On a side note: Hooker’s interception that resulted in a defensive two-point conversion was actually the first in franchise history.

Fellow safety K’Von Wallace is also a little lighter in the wallet, with the veteran defender being fined $5,611 for unsportsmanlike conduct after he taunted the Colts’ sideline, which was flagged during the game.

It was thought Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman might face a fine after he launched the football into the stands following his game-winning touchdown catch, which is something we saw former Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown get fined for in the past. However, Pittman escaped without one.

The Titans will return to the field when they take on the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on Monday night.

The Titans’ snap counts following their Week 12 victory on Sunday.

When it comes to the Tennessee Titans’ snap counts from the Week 12 win over the Carolina Panthers, there wasn’t too much that stuck out on either side of the ball.

The most notable thing on defense was safety Elijah Molden seeing less playing time in favor of fellow safety K’Von Wallace. It’s also worth noting that linebacker Monty Rice was once again involved in a rotation.

On offense, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins seeing the third-most snaps at the position was certainly worth mentioning, as was tight end Trevon Wesco leading his position group.

Now, a look at the full snap counts for offense and defense from Week 12.
