Auburn extends offer to linebacker in 2023 class

Tigers extend offer to three-star linebacker from Illinois.

On Thursday, the Auburn coaching staff extended an offer to 2023 linebacker K’Vion Thunderbird. The linebacker position will likely be a priority in the upcoming class with Owen Pappoe likely going pro after the season ends.

Thunderbird is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He is listed at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds according to 247Sports. Their recruiting rankings list Thunderbird as a three-star. Several non-power five programs have offered Thunderbird such as  Akron, Central Michigan, and Buffalo. The list of power five schools includes Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, and Tennessee.

With his size, he will likely be asked to put on some muscle if his intentions are to play inside linebacker. The coaching staff may see Thunderbird as an outside linebacker. The majority of the time the player gets his preference, but the coaching staff will have their own personal opinion as to what position he would play. The Tigers could lose Eugene Asante, Owen Pappoe, and Cam Riley after this season. If that is the case, the linebacker room has a huge void to fill.

The Tigers coaching staff has offered 24 linebackers. Several players to keep an eye on are Eric Muse, Phil Picciotti, and Dee Crayton. It will also be interesting to see if the staff can get Thunderbird on campus during summer practices and potentially for a return visit in the fall.
