Rams choose not to activate 7th-round rookie off IR, ending his season

The Rams will not activate KT Leveston despite designating him to return, meaning the rookie is out for the rest of the year

KT Leveston’s rookie season is ending without him playing a single snap.

The seventh-round rookie out of Kansas State has been on injured reserve all year with an ankle injury and though he was designated to return three weeks ago, he won’t be activated off IR. Sean McVay told reporters that the Rams will keep him on the injured list for the remainder of the season, choosing not to add him to the 53-man roster.

The reason is that they have just one activation spot left this season, and with both John Johnson III and Troy Reeder also on IR, they plan to use that final designation on one of those two players.

“He’s done a good job,” McVay said, via TheRams.com. “We would have had to create a roster spot, and because of some of the situations that we have at the offensive line, didn’t think that was the direction that we needed to go. But he is a guy that we’re excited about his future. I thought he did a good job with the couple weeks of practice that he did have, and looking forward to working with him for years to come.”

Leveston was the Rams’ final draft pick this year, going 254th overall in the seventh round. He’s the team’s only rookie who hasn’t been active for at least four games this season, but that’s primarily because of his ankle injury.

Seventh-round rookies are rarely expected to contribute so that was more of a selection for the future rather than filling an immediate need.

Rams close out 2024 draft with Kansas State OL KT Leveston

The Rams used their 10th and final pick on Kansas State offensive lineman KT Leveston

With their 10th and final pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Los Angeles Rams continued their trend of bolstering the trenches. At No. 254 overall, the Rams drafted Kansas State offensive lineman KT Leveston.

Leveston only played left tackle in college, but many believe he’ll be a guard in the NFL. At 6-foot-4 and 326 pounds, he has the size to play on the interior, but perhaps not the length to hold up outside at tackle.

He’s the second lineman drafted by the Rams, joining Beaux Limmer, who was a sixth-round pick.

In the last two years, Leveston was an All-Big 12 honorable mention in each season, making 27 total starts, all at left tackle.
