Koren Johnson reopens recruitment after having UCLA in final five

Koren Johnson is reopening his recruitment.

The UCLA Bruins have been active in the transfer portal on the basketball front. They have shown interest in a ton of players and have already landed two big names in Skyy Clark and Kobe Johnson.

One player they have shown interest in is Washington transfer Koren Johnson. The Huskies star recently had UCLA as one of his finalists.

However, on Wednesday, Joe Tipton of On3 reported that Johnson has reopened his recruitment and is open to other programs besides those initial five.

Johnson originally had his list of Florida, Oregon, Indiana, UCLA and returning to the Huskies, so this news changes things considerably.

Mick Cronin’s team has done well thus far despite losing a number of players to the portal. But, landing Johnson would be a huge boost to the roster and they prepare to go to the Big Ten Conference in 2024.

Johnson’s recruitment will be something to monitor.

UCLA a finalist for Washington transfer Koren Johnson

UCLA is a finalist for Koren Johnson. This would be a huge get for the Bruins.

The UCLA Bruins men’s basketball program has been extremely active so far in the transfer portal. They have reached out to a large number of players in hopes of turning this program around after missing the NCAA Tournament this year.

One of the biggest players in the portal is Washington star Koren Johnson, and he has UCLA as one of his finalists, per Joe Tipton of On3. The other finalists are Oregon, Florida, Indiana, and a return to the Huskies.

Washington let go of head coach Mike Hopkins at the end of the season and then hired Utah State’s Danny Sprinkle, so Johnson hasn’t all the way ruled out playing for the Huskies again.

This past season, Johnson averaged more than 10 PPG with a pair of assists and rebounds and was named the Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year.

Landing Koren Johnson would be a massive boost for the program.

Washington transfer Koren Johnson strongly considering Oregon Ducks

An incoming transfer guard could be coming south from Washington in the coming weeks.

The Oregon Ducks have reportedly been reaching out to one of their rivals who entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason.

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, former Washington Huskies guard Koren Johnson is considering five schools after his move to enter the transfer portal a couple of weeks ago, and the Ducks are among the finalists for his commitment. Tipton reports that Johnson is looking at Oregon, Indiana, Florida, UCLA, and a potential return to Washington.

In 2023, Johnson played in 31 games, averaging 11.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. He played for two full seasons at Washington, where he was an elite scorer with four games of 20-plus points this past year.
