Oregon S Kodi DeCambra enters the transfer portal

Kodi DeCambra, a redshirt freshman safety for the Oregon Ducks, enters the transfer portal one day after Oregon’s spring game.

Oregon Ducks safety Kodi DeCambra has entered the transfer portal, according to reports from 247Sports, On3Sports, and others. DeCambra was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2023 — according to 247Sports — with four years of remaining eligibility after using his redshirt option in his first season.

On Saturday, DeCambra was absent from the Ducks spring game, and after the game, James Crepea of the Oregoniareported that DeCambra was expected to enter the transfer portal. On Sunday, his intent to transfer was made official.

In 2023, DeCambra took just 6 snaps on defense for Oregon, all in the Ducks’ first game against Portland State. DeCambra did not record any stats on those plays.

Oregon brought in a high volume of good defensive backs in the 2024 offseason, which could’ve factored into DeCambra’s decision to transfer. One of the players competing with DeCambra was Aaron Flowers, a safety recruit in the class of 2024, who performed well in the spring game, making four tackles and one pass breakup.

During his initial recruitment, DeCambra took visits with Washington, Oregon State, and Hawaii, so look out for those schools as potential transfer destinations for the redshirt freshman. DeCambra is from Las Vegas, so there’s also always the chance that he wants to go somewhere closer to home.

SIGNED: 4-star safety Kodi DeCambra is officially a Duck

Welcome to Eugene, Kodi DeCambra. The 4-star safety from Las Vegas is officially a Duck.

The Oregon Ducks added a key piece to their secondary on Wednesday, officially signing 4-star safety Kodi DeCambra from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, Nevada.

DeCambra is rated as the No. 28 safety and No. 317 overall player in the 2023 class. He took several visits to Oregon over the past year and officially committed to the Ducks in May of 2022.

Oregon has some major needs in the secondary this offseason as they look to replace players like Christian Gonzalez and Bennett Williams. While it’s ambitious to think that DeCambra could see a lot of playing time as a true freshman, he absolutely projects to be a nice depth piece for them in 2023.

Oregon jumps nearly 10 spots in recruiting rankings after Kodi DeCambra commitment

With the latest commitment from 4-star S Kodi DeCambra, the Oregon Ducks made another big jump up the recruiting rankings.

On Monday afternoon, Oregon Duck fans got to add some football celebration to their ongoing Memorial Day celebrations. 4-star safety Kodi DeCambra announced his commitment to play his college ball in Eugene.

While there’s been a feeling over the past several months that DeCambra was going to end up at Oregon, we now know it’s official. DeCambra is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 16 safety in the 2023 class, and the No. 255 player overall.

So what does that do to Oregon’s recruiting rankings in the nation as a whole?

According to 247Sports team rankings, the Ducks jumped up nearly 10 spots. They went into Monday sitting at No. 25 in the nation with 6 commitments. Now they move into the No. 16 spot, just ahead of Cincinnati and behind Iowa.

Oregon still sits at No. 3 in the Pac-12 recruiting rankings, trailing the USC Trojans (No. 9 in nation) and the Colorado Buffaloes (No. 14 in nation.)

With all of the momentum that the Ducks have on the recruiting trail at the moment, we can expect that number to rise before all is said and done as well. The month of June is expected to be massive for Oregon, as they will host a number of 5-star prospects including RB Richard Young, OT Kadyn Proctor, EDGE Jayden Wayne, and DL David Hicks.

There’s a good sense that we know where he is going to end up, though…

DeCambra, who is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 3 player in the state of Nevada, as well as the No. 24 safety and No. 255 player in the 2023 class, has long been predicted to choose the Oregon Ducks. You can also look at On3’s recruiting prediction machine, where Oregon is given an overwhelming chance to land the blue-chip defensive back.

It may be a foregone conclusion, but we will see the final decision on Monday afternoon. It looks like it might be shaping up for another great day for the Ducks.

Elite 4-star S Kodi DeCambra places Oregon Ducks in his top-6

The Ducks are considered heavy favorites to land 4-star Kodi DeCambra, who narrowed his list to 6 on Saturday.

If you were to look at the magic 8-ball, the Oregon Ducks are currently heavy favorites to land a commitment from 4-star safety Kodi DeCambra, who is ranked as the No. 17 safety and No. 226 overall player in the 2023 class.

DeCambra, who has taken multiple visits to Oregon this past year, cut his recruiting list down to six on Saturday, including the Ducks among others on the west coast.

We spoke to DeCambra earlier this year after one of his visits to Eugene, where he said that he had built a nice relationship with Dan Lanning and was impressed with the culture of the Ducks.

We will see how his recruitment continues down the road, but Oregon fans have to feel pretty confident that this blue-chip safety will eventually be coming to Eugene.
