At least, New York has played a bit better at home while San Antonio has had trouble in the fourth quarter of almost every game during this bad spell. The Spurs have lost eight straight games during their current run.

RJ Barrett is the latest to bear the pressure of getting the iconic Knicks brand back into the spotlight. The No. 3 overall pick out of Duke has been tapped to be the face of the franchise heading into the future. So far, early in his rookie season, it’s been an up and down project. The 19-year-old is averaging a respectable 15.8 points per game. 

Like Barrett, the Knicks as a whole have a lot of work to do to get to a level where they’re competing for a playoff spot, much less with the best teams in the Eastern Conference. There are reasons for hope in New York, even if they may seem distant. Yes, the likes of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving passed on the chance to sign, but the addition of Julius Randle in conjunction with Barrett gives the Knicks something to build off of. Perhaps another strong draft class or two and some improved luck in the free agent market could be what gets them heading back into the direction their fans expect.

Cavaliers: PF Larry Nance Jr. (thumb) is considered questionable for Monday’s game.

The CAVALIERS (+110) are a nice value as short dogs against the Knicks (-134), especially since Cleveland already has a win at New York, 108-87, back on Nov. 10.
