On Thursday, the Golden State Warriors announced Klay Thompson has a torn Achilles in his right leg. Thompson’s injury will force him to miss the entire 2020-21 season
Prior to the start of the NBA draft, the five-time All-Star suffered his season-ending Achilles injury at a workout with other NBA players in Southern California.
In June of 2019, Thompson endured another significant injury. On a fast break drive to the basket, the three-time champion suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during the third quarter of game six of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors.
As he rehabbed his knee, Thompson missed all of Golden State’s 2019-20 run. Following a long rehab and an 18-month layoff from game action, Thompson was expected to be on the court for Golden State’s preseason training camp in December.
After playing in 73 or more games in seven consecutive seasons, the 30-year-old is slated to be sidelined for back-to-back campaigns. Over his career in the Bay Area, Thompson is averaging 19.5 points on 45.9% shooting from the field with 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest.
Following the initial reports of the news, LeBron James, Trae Young, Donovan Mitchell and other NBA players weighed in on social media with their thoughts on Thompson’s unfortunate injury.
