UFC Fight Night 183’s Khaos Williams content with double quick KOs – but knows wars coming

“This is only the beginning for real, for real.”

After a total of 57 seconds in the UFC octagon, [autotag]Khaos Williams[/autotag] already is 2-0.

Bursting into the national spotlight with a 27-second knockout of Alex Morono in February, Williams (11-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) returned in November and knocked out Abdul Razak Alhassan in 30 seconds.

Ahead of his UFC Fight Night 183 bout Saturday, however, Williams warned that his talents extend past quick knockouts. Audiences just haven’t had the opportunity to see that yet.

“There’s a lot (people haven’t seen),” Williams said. “I’m a well rounded fighter. I get better every day, you know. One of these days, maybe Saturday, the world will get to witness a little bit more.”

[lawrence-related id=569742]

Williams is fine with continuing his quick knockout streak against Michel Pereira (24-11 MMA, 2-2 UFC) on Saturday. He knows the longer back-and-forth battles are on the horizon regardless.

“I’m just really getting started,” Williams said. “This is only the beginning for real, for real. I mean, if I can go ahead and get it over within a minute, in 30 seconds (or) 20 seconds, then why not? Down the line, I’m going to have those wars. But right now, if I can get it over with soon, why not?

Rising UFC prospect Khaos Williams says self-belief, hard work the key to success

After a tough road to the octagon, UFC prospect Khaos Williams hopes to use his success as an inspiration to others.

[autotag]Khaos Williams[/autotag] wants to be an example to his community of how far hard work and dedication can get you.

Williams (11-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), who exploded onto the UFC scene with back-to-back first-round knockouts of Alex Morono and Abdul Razak Alhassan, is already one of the most promising prospects on the roster.

But, while Williams’ arrival in the UFC has looked fast, his road to the octagon was far from easy. In 2013, Williams earned a high school diploma through an online program while incarcerated in Jackson County Jail after being convicted of selling cocaine.

And as soon as he walked out, he knew he wanted to turn his life around.

“I always say I don’t just want to make an income, I want to make an impact,” Williams told MMA Junkie. “Because people see the finishing product, they see the glitz and glamour, they see you win, they see me on ESPN and stuff like that, but they don’t see the hard work and dedication. They don’t see when I was at the bottom. I had to get out of the mud and there were a lot of people that didn’t believe in me. I had to believe in myself.

“I didn’t have a lot of money to start off, I didn’t have a lot of resources. I didn’t have a lot. I didn’t come from a rich family or nothing like that, I had to make it. I just had to believe in myself and I made it happen so for the youth and stuff like that, if you got a dream, you just gotta believe in yourself. You just gotta put the work in. That’s it.”

Williams is already booked for his next bout, where he’ll face fellow knockout artist Michel Pereira at UFC Fight Night 184 on Dec. 19. His phone blew up after he scored his second straight finish in less than a minute, but it wasn’t always an outpour of support for Williams.

“Everybody loves you when you’re winning,” Williams said. “It’s crazy, like you said, because a lot of people, they did doubt me. They didn’t expect me to be here. When I was telling people I was gonna get to the UFC or that was my goal, a lot of people were hating. They didn’t think I was gonna be here, especially doing what I’m doing now, and the way I’m doing it in the top-level competition. I definitely had haters.”

UFC Fight Night 182 medical suspensions: Paul Felder, four more face potential 180-day terms

Paul Felder and three others could be out 180 days unless they’re cleared by a doctor.

[autotag]Paul Felder[/autotag] is among four UFC Fight Night 182 combatants facing six-month suspensions from injuries sustained during Saturday’s event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

On Tuesday, MMA Junkie obtained the full list of suspensions from MixedMartialArts.com, the Association of Boxing Commissions’ official record keeper.

Joining Felder at the top of the suspension-length list is Team Alpha Male’s [autotag]Cory McKenna[/autotag], who won a unanimous decision over fellow up-and-comer [autotag]Kay Hansen[/autotag] on the main card. McKenna faces a six-month suspension due to a left ankle sprain.

Welterweight [autotag]Alex Morono[/autotag] and heavyweight [autotag]Roque Martinez[/autotag], who competed on the prelims also are facing 180-day terms for knee injuries.

UFC Fight Night 182 bonuses: Rafael dos Anjos-Paul Felder takes ‘Fight of the Night’

A closer look at the four fighters to go home with an extra $50,000 after UFC Fight Night 182 in Las Vegas.

Another UFC event is in the books, and as is the custom, four fighters end the evening with an extra $50,000.

UFC Fight Night 182 went down Saturday night at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and had several memorable performances. [autotag]Rafael dos Anjos [/autotag]and [autotag]Paul Felder[/autotag] fought a lightweight main event that was far more compelling than two 50-45 scores in favor of the former would seem to indicate, and the duo earned “Fight of the Night” honors. [autotag]Khaos Williams[/autotag] and [autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag], meanwhile, both had impressive finishes, and they went home with “Performance of the Night” honors.

Here’s a closer look at the UFC Fight Night 182 bonus winners:

UFC Fight Night 182 video: Khaos Williams KOs Abdul Razak Alhassan in 30 seconds

We knew the UFC Fight Night 182 co-main event was likely to end in a devastating finish. Khaos Williams delivered.

We knew the UFC Fight Night 182 co-main event was likely to end in a devastating finish. But even this was a little surprising.

[autotag]Khaos Williams[/autotag] did exactly what he was designated to do against fellow power striker [autotag]Abdul Razak Alhassan[/autotag] on Saturday, scoring a brutal one-punch knockout just 30 seconds into the catchweight bout at UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

There’s not much fight to break down. Williams (11-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) found his target on his first big right hand throw, and Alhassan (10-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) went down in a heap.

Watch the replay below (via Twitter):

Williams has now proven himself to be a legit knockout threat through two octagon appearances. His two UFC fights have lasted just 57 seconds combined, and “The Ox Fighter” said he’s proud to represent.

“It’s not personal, it’s just punishment,” Williams said in his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping. I’ve been waiting to get on TV and do this. … I hope my opponent (is) OK, as well. If the people keep sleeping on me, then the doctor is going to wake them up.”

The UFC is back on its home turf again this week with a former lightweight champion atop the bill.

UFC Fight Night 182 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, former lightweight champion [autotag]Rafael dos Anjos[/autotag] (29-13 MMA, 18-11 UFC) returns to the division after a stint at welterweight to take on [autotag]Paul Felder[/autotag] (17-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC), who took the bout on just five days’ notice. Dos Anjos is a -193 favorite at BetMGM; the comeback on Felder is +160. But it’s Felder who has a big 10-4 lead in the picks from our 14 editors, writers, videographers and radio hosts.

In the co-feature, [autotag]Abdul Razak Alhassan[/autotag] (10-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) missed weight for his welterweight bout against [autotag]Khaos Williams[/autotag] (10-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC). He’s a -250 favorite, though, and he’s a near-unanimous pick from our staff members at 13-1.

[autotag]Eryk Anders[/autotag] (13-5 MMA, 5-5 UFC) missed weight, as well, for his middleweight bout against [autotag]Antonio Arroyo[/autotag] (9-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC). Anders is a mild favorite at -125, and he has a small 8-6 lead in the picks from our staff members.

And to open the main card, [autotag]Brendan Allen[/autotag] (15-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) takes on [autotag]Sean Strickland[/autotag] (21-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) in a 195-pound catchweight bout. Allen is a slight favorite at -125, but it’s Strickland with an 8-6 picks lead.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Felder (63 percent), Alhassan (58 percent), Anders (73 percent) and Allen (62 percent) are the choices.
