Barack Obama realized he hilariously reenacted the Key & Peele handshake sketch with Team USA

Obama did not realize it at first but now finds it hilarious.

Earlier this year, President Barack Obama met with Team USA basketball and had a hilarious interaction with the players and coaching staff.

Obama had a familiarity with several players and coaches including Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Erik Spoelstra, and Steve Kerr. That much was quite obvious when he greeted each of them for a handshake.

But the former POTUS was not as familiar with Team USA assistant coach Mark Few, who is also the head coach of Gonzaga Men’s Basketball. During a recent interview with Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, who was on Team USA this summer, Obama said he had never met Few.

So when it came time to shake his hand, he wasn’t sure what greeting to go with. In the conversation, he admitted that it ended up looking a lot like an iconic sketch from Key & Peele at a meet and greet:

“I gotta say, that was funny. But here’s what happened. Here’s what happened. So I’m going down the row, right? A lot of those guys, I knew. And then right before I got to Coach Few, it’s Steph, it’s LeBron. I’ve been knowing those guys forever. I had dinner with them, their families. So then Coach Few, I’d never met. And he put out his hand and I’m like, alright. Yeah. I don’t know. Is he going to be comfortable if I pull him into a bro hug? I don’t know. So I just shook his hand. Kerr was right afterward. And Steve I knew. But the way it played out, I will say, it looked just like that Key & Peele skit.”

Obama revealed that he did not know that people would make the comparison because it was not a “conscious” decision.

You can watch the version from his presidency and the version from the Olympics:

When he watched it side-by-side, he felt like people “caught” him.

The former president added that the two comedians did plenty of funny sketches surrounding his presidency and believes that Jordan Peele does a fantastic impression of him.

Meanwhile, this was a great job by Haliburton to ask the question.

Fans think Barack Obama unintentionally recreated a Key & Peele sketch while greeting USA men’s hoops

Former President Obama unintentionally recreated a famous Key and Peele skit.

On Wednesday, former President Barack Obama greeted members of the Team USA men’s basketball team ahead of their trip to Paris for the 2024 Olympics.

The meeting itself was very casual and amicable, but the way Obama greeted each member of the group instantly reminded fans of one of the most famous comedy sketches involving the former president.

The beloved sketch comedy series Key & Peele once did a very funny segment where Jordan Peele’s President Obama tended to greet each member of an event differently. The results were hilarious.

Obama previously greeted a Team USA contingent with roughly the same manner of approach, which makes all of this even more on point.

Well, watching Obama greet various NBA players like LeBron James and Steph Curry and other members of the Team USA contingent immediately reminded us of that famous Key & Peele sketch.

Watch for yourself, and you’ll see what we mean.

Alright, that’s pretty uncanny, isn’t it? The video went basically in uniform to the Key & Peele segment.

Fans quickly pointed out the similarities in what’s turned out to be an absolutely delightful mirror between fiction and reality.

Aaron Rodgers’ touchdown dance goes viral, but Lance Moore did it better

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers danced the “Hingle McCringleberry” against the Buccaneers, which Saints WRs Lance Moore and Kenny Stills debuted.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers briefly made waves for his touchdown-scoring run against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, followed up by a celebratory dance referencing a scene from the “Key & Peele Show.” The classic “Hingle McCringleberry Dance” skit is always worth bringing back, but nothing went Rodgers’ way after he evoked it.

He was ruled down at the one-yard line, short of scoring a touchdown. And he threw a pair of interceptions on the following possessions, one of them returned by the Buccaneers defense for a score. Rodgers floundered under pressure and sent his team into halftime down 28-10.

It’s a far cry from how things went for New Orleans Saints wide receivers Lance Moore and Kenny Stills back in 2013, when they first brought the “Hingle McCringleberry” to the NFL. Moore danced (as he often did after hitting paydirt for the Saints) and Stills played the part of the skit’s referee, who fouled McCringleberry for it.

“And we BOTH got fined!!!” Moore wrote from his official Twitter account, reflecting on the event after Rodgers made his own take. They were also each penalized for Stills using his hand towel as a prop, mimicking a flag, but Rodgers escaped any penalties (and probably any fines).

At least the Saints wideouts still have their bragging rights. They won their game that day (also against the Buccaneers, coincidentally) with a score of 42-17. Compare their effort for yourself:
