We are just 83 days away from Alabama football!

In 83 days, Kalen DeBoer will usher in a new era of Alabama Crimson Tide football, replacing the legendary [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] as head coach in Tuscaloosa.

Coach DeBoer and the Crimson Tide will take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Aug. 31 to kick off the 2024 college football season inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Today, with 83 days remaining, we will take a look at one of my favorite players of the Nick Saban era who happened to wear No. 83 in Kevin Norwood.

Norwood had a fantastic career with Alabama from 2010 to 2013 where he collected 81 receptions for 1,275 yards and 12 touchdowns during a run-heavy era of Crimson Tide football.

Alabama countdown to kickoff: 83 days

Tide fans, we are just Kevin Norwood days away from the start of Alabama’s 2022 football season.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field for the 2022 college football season in 83 days, as Utah State visits Bryant Denny Stadium on Sept. 3.

This will be Alabama’s first season-opener at home in quite some time, as the 18-time national champs are usually selected for a nationally televised kickoff game at a neutral site against a big-time opponent.

Former Alabama WR Kevin Norwood hired by Ole Miss as an offensive assistant

The former Alabama WR is now an assistant coach in the SEC

Ex-Alabama wide receiver Kevin Norwood is returning to the SEC, but this time around he won’t be catching passes and scoring touchdowns.

Matt Zenitz reported on Monday morning that Norwood was accepting a position as an offensive assistant as part of Ole Miss’ support staff.

Previously, Norwood served as an offensive assistant with Louisiana under former Ragin’ Cajuns head coach Billy Napier, who departed for Florida, and was retained when new Ragin’ Cajuns head coach Michael Desormeaux was hired in 2021.

Norwood was responsible for the development of wide receivers and running backs as an offensive quality control assistant. It was his first college coaching job and he appears to be on the right track to having a long career as a coach in the college ranks.

At Alabama, Norwood earned three BCS titles and two SEC championships with the Tide from 2009-13. Napier was his wide receivers coach during some of that time, which could explain why Napier decided to hire him at Louisiana.

He racked up 81 catches for 1,275 yards and 12 touchdowns. His best performance in the 2012 BCS national championship game against LSU. He earned a team-high four catches for 78 yards in the win.

He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft but was traded to the Carolina Panthers after just one season with Pete Carrol in Seattle. The Panthers released Norwood a few weeks after being placed on the injured reserve in 2016.

In October of 2016 Norwood signed with the San Diego Chargers, prior to their move to Los Angeles, but was released just a month later. His NFL career ended with the New York Giants, however, he was released on an injury settlement after suffering a hip injury. He completed his NFL career with nine catches for 102 yards.
