Ohio State women’s basketball gets road victory over Purdue

Another win for the Lady Bucks. #GoBucks

It was a close one, but the Ohio State women’s basketball team got itself a 71-68 road win over Purdue on Sunday.

It was a nip and tuck affair all the way throughout, but a little bizarre in the fact that the largest lead was nine points by Ohio State, while Purdue led just one time in the game by a single point in the third quarter.

The Buckeyes scored the first seven points of the game and looked to be well on their way to another victory, but it’s tough to win on the road in the Big Ten, and Purdue wasn’t about to let things get away. In fact, the Boilermakers battled back and finished the first quarter down just one point at 20-19.

OSU took modest control in the second quarter and headed to the locker room at halftime up 33-27. The third quarter was pretty close to a stalemate, then Ohio State looked to take hold of the game in the fourth quarter before Purdue started to rally late in the fourth quarter, even getting the lead down to two points with just :21 seconds left before OSU’s Jacy Sheldon sealed it at the free throw line.

Rebeka Mikulasikova led the Buckeyes with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. She was joined with two other Ohio State players in double figures. Taylor Thierry scored 14 points and Cotie McMahon chipped in 10 points.

With the win, OSU improves its overall record to 17-3, and conference mark to 8-1, good for a three-way tie at the top with Iowa and Indiana.

Ohio State women’s basketball gets 5-star point guard commitment

BOOM! The Ohio State women’s basketball teams gets a massive commitment. #GoBucks

It is a family affair for the Cambridge clan and the Ohio State women’s basketball team.

Kennedy is already in Columbus and now her sister, [autotag]Jaloni Cambridge,[/autotag] will join her. The 2024 Tennessee native point guard verbally committed to the Buckeyes on Friday afternoon, giving head coach [autotag]Kevin McGuff[/autotag] one of the best players in the class.

Jaloni is ranked by ESPN’s HoopGurlz as the No. 3 prospect in the country, giving her 5-star status. She is the top ranked point guard, who stands 5-foot, 6-inches and preps at high school hoops powerhouse Montverde Academy in Florida.

This is a massive recruiting win for the Lady Bucks, who are currently 10-2 and ranked in both major polls.

Cambridge joins Ava Watson and Ella Hobbs in the Buckeyes 2024 recruiting class, which will be looked at as one of the best in the country.

Ohio State women’s basketball get a commit from top graduate transfer

A BOOM for the OSU women’s hoops team #GoBucks

After a run to the Elite 8 for [autotag]Ohio State women’s basketball[/autotag], there is plenty of buzz around the program. Head coach [autotag]Kevin McGuff[/autotag] has his team trending in the right direction.

Even though they lost leading scorer Taylor Mikesell to the WNBA, a majority of their large contributors will return.

The shoes to fill Mikesell’s void are large but McGuff went to the transfer portal and found a replacement in former Duke guard [autotag]Celeste Taylor[/autotag]. The graduate transfer averaged 11.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.2 steals for the Blue Devils this past season.

The addition of Taylor puts the 2023-24 squad in good hands and should make another run at a Big Ten title along with a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

Ohio State women’s basketball adds Simon Harris to staff

Ohio State women’s head basketball coach Kevin McGuff announced the addition of Simon Harris to his staff Saturday.

Ohio State head women’s basketball coach Kevin McGuff announced the addition of Simon Harris to the staff on Friday.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Simon to the Ohio State Women’s Basketball family,” said McGuff in a statement. “He is a relentless recruiter, skilled coach, and proven winner. Most importantly his commitment to supporting the growth and development of our student athletes will allow him to make a significant impact on our program.”

Harris comes to Ohio State after spending the last two seasons at North Carolina State where he graduated from. In those two years, Harris helped the Wolfpack to a total of 56 victories, one ACC Tournament championship, and a top ten ranking both years.

It is a bit of a homecoming of sorts for Harris as well, as he spent seven years in Ohio previously at the University of Dayton. Ther he was on the men’s staff under Archie Miller for three years, and the women’s basketball staff for four.

As a player, Harris played at NC State in 2007-08 and 2008-09 and earned his undergraduate degree in sociology in 2008. He replaces Carrie Banks on the OSU staff who left this spring to become the head coach at Nebraska Omaha.
