Matt Rhule is hard at work assembling his Carolina Panthers coaching staff, and unsurprisingly, it may have a bit of a New York Giants feel to it.
Having previously worked with the Giants under Tom Coughlin, it makes sense that Rhule would go back to the well and bring in guys he’s familiar with and trusts. And two of those guys happen to be his former offensive line coach, Pat Flaherty, as well as Kevin M. Gilbride, whose father, Kevin Gilbride, suggested Coughlin hire Rhule in the first place.
I'm hearing two veteran NFL assistants who may be joining @Panthers new coaching staff are Kevin M. Gilbride (tight ends) & Pat Flaherty (offensive line). Both were w/the @Giants when new CAR HC Matt Rhule was NY's assistant o-line coach in 2012. Roles TBD @SiriusXMNFL

During Rhule’s one year in East Rutherford (2012), he worked under Flaherty and alongside both Gilbride’s — the senior running Big Blue’s offense and the junior coaching the wide receivers.
Flaherty last coached for the Giants in 2015 and exited with Coughlin, while Gilbride Jr. remained until 2017 where he was coaching tight ends at the time.
Following their Giants departures, Flaherty went on to coach the offensive line in San Francisco (2016), Jacksonville (2017-2018) and Miami (2019), while Gilbride moved onto Chicago (2018-2019).
