Former MSU star WR Keon Coleman reportedly to visit Florida State this weekend

Former Michigan State wide receiver Keon Coleman will reportedly be visiting Florida State this upcoming weekend

Former Michigan State wide receiver Keon Coleman will reportedly be visiting Florida State this upcoming weekend.

Coleman entered the transfer portal on Sunday, and confirmed the rumors via Instagram on Wednesday evening. Once entering the portal, Coleman was expected to be a big-time target so it is no surprise that Florida State will be hosting him this upcoming weekend.

Coleman this past season lead the Spartans in receiving with 58 receptions for 798 yards and seven touchdowns. He was expected to be one of the Spartans top contributors on offense this upcoming season.

There is still an outside chance Coleman could return to Michigan State for next year. But visiting other big-time schools, such as Florida State, is certainly going to lower the possibility of that happening.

REPORT: Michigan State football transfer WR Keon Coleman held meeting with Mel Tucker this week

REPORT: Michigan State WR Keon Coleman, who’s in the transfer portal, met with Mel Tucker this week

Michigan State football had one of the most dramatic moments of the Mel Tucker era on Sunday, when three former starters entered the transfer portal. One of those players, cornerback Charles Brantley, has already withdrawn his name from the portal. Now, it looks as if Tucker and his staff are working to keep another starter, star wideout Keon Coleman.

According to a report from Audrey Dahlgren, a reporter for local CBS affiliate WLNS 6, Coleman met with Tucker in his office as recently as Monday. It looks as if Coleman is still in communication with the staff and weighing his options before making any decisions, which is a good sign if the Spartans are trying to keep Coleman in East Lansing as they should be.

REPORT: Where Michigan State football transfers Payton Thorne and Keon Coleman are rumored to have interest

It looks like some teams are already talking to Keon Coleman and Payton Thorne

It was a pretty shocking day for Michigan State football; it lost three starters to the transfer portal. Two were fixtures on offense this past season: Payton Thorne and Keon Coleman.

Now, the two players will examine their options in the transfer portal, and Corey Robinson of 247Sports tweeted some intel on where they could be heading.

For Coleman, Robinson said he has heard about LSU, USC, Tennessee and Miami.

For Thorne, he has heard he is talking to Auburn, where new head coach Hugh Freeze could be looking to install a veteran such as Thorne into a pretty barren quarterback room.

Michigan State football WR Keon Coleman enters NCAA transfer portal

REPORT: Michigan State football WR Keon Coleman to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Updated at 3:20 p.m. ET on April 30, 2023: A program spokesman has confirmed the report below; Keon Coleman is in the transfer portal.

Two major developments have taken place Sunday, capping a busy weekend of Michigan State football news. Michigan State football quarterback Payton Thorne and wide receiver Keon Coleman have entered the transfer portal, according to a report from Justin Thind of 247Sports.

Interestingly, Thind also reported that Coleman had made this decision last week, but the transfer of Thorne might be a big step toward keeping Coleman in East Lansing, which is pretty thought-provoking, considering you’d assume Coleman would prefer to play with Thorne, who he’s played with his whole career at MSU.

This will definitely be a major story to follow in the coming weeks.

Keon Coleman decides not to play for Michigan State basketball, will stick with football

Keon Coleman decides not to play for Michigan State basketball, will stick with football

One of the most beloved athletes in all of Michigan State sports right now is Keon Coleman. The wide receiver electrified the football team this year with his size and innate ability to come down with difficult catches. He is also a bit of an enigma, as he was also a part-time member of the basketball team, and someone who showed some real flashes of ability on the hardcourt.

This winter, we have been waiting for a decision to be made regarding Coleman’s basketball future, and that came on Tuesday when Tom Izzo released a statement that Coleman will be focusing on football moving forward.

“Keon Coleman and I spoke at length this week and we came to the joint decision that it would be best for him to focus on his football career and not join the basketball team at this time,” Izzo said in a statement. “Keon had a great football season and it’s in his best interests to take the next few months to get ready for spring football, while also taking care of his academic obligations.”

While I’m sure Izzo would have loved to have another body in the rotation on his frequently under-manned MSU basketball team, this is probably for the best as Coleman has already been flagged as someone who could play in the NFL someday.

This will be the second season in a row that Coleman has joined the basketball program after the football season. He appeared in 6 games during the 2021-22 basketball season.

Michigan State football wide receivers Jayden Reed, Keon Coleman awarded All-Big Ten honors

Jayden Reed and Keon Coleman both received All-Big Ten honors

Last spring, Michigan State football wide receiver Jayden Reed lost his partner-in-crime when Jalen Nailor took his talents to the NFL. But this year, he found a new running mate in Keon Coleman, the dual-sport athlete who burst onto the scene this year with his huge frame and knack for coming down with ’50-50 balls’.

Because of their efforts, both players were awarded All-Big Ten honors from both the coaches and media.

Reed was named second team All-Big Ten by the coaches, and was an honorable mention by the media. Coleman was named to the third team by the media and was an honorable mention by the coaches.
