Offensive struggles once again doom Kentucky versus Texas

Kentucky football struggled on offense once again in a loss to Texas.

All season long, Kentucky football has struggled on offense. On Saturday, against the Texas Longhorns, that remained a problem, and the Wildcats lost 31 – 14 as they failed to put points on the board.

Kentucky’s defense played pretty well overall. Outside of a rough second quarter, the Longhorns were held in relative check. The Wildcats forced two turnovers, including a fumble returned for a score, and nearly forced a few others.

Quarterback Brock Vandagriff did not play particularly well in the first half, and was pulled at halftime. Freshman Cutter Boley looked mostly effective, and was 10-of-18 for 160 yards. The Kentucky offense line, though, was out-matched all day long, and both Vandagriff and Boley were under constant pressure.

The loss drops Kentucky to 4 – 7 on the season, and eliminates them from bowl contention. That means the Wildcats’ streak of eight straight bowl appearances will come to an end.

Kentucky closes the season with the Louisville Cardinals in their annual grudge match. Fans will be hoping to end the season on a positive note.

Staff predictions for Kentucky’s matchup with Texas on Saturday

Here are the UKWildcatsWire staff predictions for Kentucky vs Texas on Saturday.

Kentucky football’s bowl chances have come down to a point that fans were hoping to avoid. If they want to make it to a postseason game for the ninth straight season, they’ll have to go through the Texas Longhorns.

The Longhorns comes into the game with a 9 – 1 record, and they’re ranked third in the US LBM Coaches Poll. They’ve been one of the best teams in college football all season long. It will take Kentucky’s best effort to even be competitive, much less win it.

It’s a nearly impossible task, but can it be done? Here is how the staff at UKWildcatsWire sees it playing out.

Texas 38 – Kentucky 13

It would be nice to see the Wildcats pull off another massive upset and save their season. It’s not realistic, however. Kentucky’s offense has been atrocious against SEC foes, and there’s no reason to think it will suddenly be fixed against the conference’s best team.

Texas 30 – Kentucky 10

Texas is one of the best teams in the nation, but Kentucky is no slouch. This is the same Wildcats football team that beat Ole Miss and nearly knocked off the Georgia Bulldogs in September. Texas will win, but Kentucky won’t get dogwalked.
