Kentucky at Alabama: Three things to know

  1. The Wildcats limp into this one, barely escaping a poor Vanderbilt side last week by a 38-35 score. The good news is that they’re underdogs, and they have covered their past two when not favored. In addition, Kentucky is 4-0 ATS in its past four as a double-digit dog.
  2. The last time these cross-division SEC rivals met was Oct. 1, 2016, a 34-6 victory by the Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Wildcats covered the 37-point number, however.
  3. Alabama dusted Mississippi State 41-0 as a 29-point favorite on Halloween, the Crimson Tide’s last game. Alabama is 2-0 ATS in the past three as a favorite of three or more touchdowns after failing to cover in the first two such situations earlier in the season – against Ole Miss and Mizzou.

Kentucky at Alabama: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Alabama 47, Kentucky 20

Money line (ML)

Alabama (-5000) is not losing to Kentucky. However, you cannot risk $100 for every $2 won. That’s just bad gambling over the long haul. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

KENTUCKY +30 (-110) is worth a small-unit play, although it’s easy to see this one getting away from the Wildcats if the Crimson Tide defense continues to show improvement. Alabama allowed 28.8 points per game over the first four games, but just 8.5 PPG across the past two. The Wildcats should still be able to get into the teens, and keep this within a four-touchdown game.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 57.5 (-115) is also worth playing lightly, as the Alabama offense can go bonkers and score at the drop of the hat. It has posted 38 or more points in every game this season, and 41 or more in each of the past five. ‘Bama will hit the 40’s again here, so that’s not a problem. As long as Kentucky can grab an early score or two, this won’t be a sweat shop.
