Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald offers injury update to Kenneth Walker III

Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald offers injury update to Kenneth Walker III

The Seattle Seahawks suffered a devastating loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, pushing them to the verge of potential elimination. However, a game and playoff positioning weren’t the only things the Seahawks lost at Lumen Field.

During the fourth quarter, running back Kenneth Walker III exited the game with an ankle injury. Walker was listed as DOUBTFUL to return, and ultimately did not set foot on the field again. This was Walker’s first game back after missing the last two in what has become a frustrating and injury-laden season.

After the game, head coach Mike Macdonald was asked about his starting running back’s injury. Macdonald mentioned Walker was going in to get imaging done, and was not sure about the extent of the injury.

Of course, we at Seahawks Wire will be among the first to report on any further updates on his No. 1 ballcarrier.

A ballcarrier who did not get nearly enough touches in this game, I might add. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb yet again abandoned the run in a game he absolutely should have stuck with more. Walker finished the night with only 31 yards on eight rushes. He did have eight receptions for 28 yards, but screen passes and dump off’s can only substitute for actually running the ball for so long.

Seahawks Week 16 injury report: Ken Walker returns to practice

Seahawks Week 16 injury report: Ken Walker returns to practice

The Seattle Seahawks have received another bit of good injury news this week. On Wednesday, it was revealed quarterback Geno Smith was a full participant at practice. Smith injured his knee during the Week 15 loss to the Green Bay Packers, but it appears he is on track to start in Week 16 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Potentially joining him in the backfield is running back Kenneth Walker III, who has missed the last two games with a calf injury. Walker was a non-participant on Wednesday’s practice, but returned for Thursday! While there is still a few days to go before we know for sure if Walker will make his return to play the Vikings, this is certainly an encouraging sign!

The full injury report from Thursday’s practice is below.

Zach Charbonnet joins Seahawks’ injury report, creates new problem in backfield

Zach Charbonnet joins Seahawks’ injury report, creates new problem in backfield

Seattle Seahawks starting running back Kenneth Walker III has missed two consecutive games with an ongoing calf injury. Backup Zach Charbonnet has done an admirable job filling in for Mike Macdonald’s bellcow. A new problem arose on Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s Week 16 showdown with the Minnesota Vikings. Charbonnet has joined the injury report with an issue in his oblique.

Charbonnet was outstanding against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 14. The former UCLA Bruin rushed for an astounding 134 yards and two touchdowns, averaging an explosive 6.1 yards per carry. Charbonnet added 59 receiving yards through seven catches to his offensive totals. Against the Packers, he totaled 66 yards of offense and scored a touchdown via just nine touches, averaging 7.3 yards per touch.

Walker III appears slated to miss his third consecutive contest. He’s certainly trending in the wrong direction. It’ll be worth monitoring Charbonnet’s status at Thursday’s and Friday’s practice sessions. If both Walker III and Charbonnet are sidelined, the Seahawks could be dealing with a real issue against the Vikings.

Sophomore seventh-rounder Kenny McIntosh and rookie ball carrier George Holani are the other running backs on the Seahawks’ 53-man roster. McIntosh has earned 14 carries for 63 yards and 4.5 yards per carry this season. The ex Georgia standout has accumulated just 37 offensive snaps. Holani has played five snaps, logging three carries for 10 yards.

Seahawks Week 15 inactives: Ken Walker officially OUT vs Packers

Seahawks Week 15 inactives: Ken Walker officially OUT vs Packers

The Seattle Seahawks are a little more than an hour away from kicking off against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football. Unfortunately, Seattle’s top running back, Kenneth Walker III, will be watching from the sidelines. The Seahawks officially announced their inactives list for Week 15, and as expected, Walker was on it.

Walker was listed as QUESTIONABLE going into the weekend. Additionally, with the news of elevating rookie running back George Holani from the practice squad was practically writing on the wall for Walker’s availability. The NFL is a next man up league, and the responsibilities fall to Zach Charbonnet.

The full inactives list for both teams can be seen below.

Seahawks Inactives:

  • RB Kenneth Walker III
  • CB Tre Brown
  • TE Brady Russell
  • LB Trevis Gipson
  • WR Cody White
  • QB Jaren Hall
  • CB Artie Burns

Packers Inactives:

  • WR Malik Heath
  • S Javon Bullard
  • CB Jaire Alexander
  • OL Jacob Monk

Seahawks elevate RB George Holani from practice squad

Seahawks elevate RB George Holani from practice squad

For the second-straight week, the Seattle Seahawks are elevating undrafted rookie running back George Holani from the practice squad. Sunday night will mark the third game of the season the former Boise State Bronco will be a member of the active 53-man roster.

This news comes on the heels of starter Kenneth Walker III being listed as DOUBTFUL. Last week, Walker was downgraded to OUT on Saturday, prompting Holani’s elevation. The fact Holani is already being elevated does not bode well for Walker’s availability (or lack thereof) for the Week 15 showdown against the Packers.

In Walker’s absence last week, Zach Charbonnet had himself a whale of game. He rushed 22 times for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Behind him will be former seventh round pick out of Georgia Kenny McIntosh.

Charbonnet and McIntosh will likely get the majority of snaps, leaving Holani for special teams. However, Holani is still a strong runner. It remains to be seen if he will get a snap or two to show what he can bring to the table.

Seahawks injury report: Ken Walker DOUTBFUL, 5 others ruled OUT for Week 15

Seahawks injury report: Ken Walker DOUTBFUL, 5 others ruled OUT for Week 15

The Seattle Seahawks have announced their game designations for Week 15’s NFC showdown with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football. Unfortunately, it looks as if the Seahawks could be without their starting running back once more.

Kenneth Walker III has been listed as DOUBTFUL for prime time. If he does in fact miss this game, back up Zach Charbonnet will once more be in line to get the start like he did last week against the Arizona Cardinals. In replacement of Walker, Charbonnet rumbled his way to 134 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, rookie running back George Holani will likely be apart of the active 53-man roster like he was last week.

Seattle has also ruled out five total players, one of which is safety K’Von Wallace who returned to practice this week from being recently activated off the injured reserve list.

The full injury report can be seen below.

Ruled OUT:

  • CB Tre Brown – Hamstring
  • S Jerrick Reed II – Quad
  • TE Brady Russell – Foot
  • T Stone Forsythe – Hand
  • S K’Von Wallace – Ankle

Doubtful:

  • RB Kenneth Walker III – Calf
  • CB Artie Burns – Toe

Questionable:

  • No players carry this designation as of Friday

3 Bold Predictions for Seahawks offense vs. Packers in Week 15

3 Bold Predictions for Seahawks offense vs. Packers in Week 15

The Seattle Seahawks will host the Green Bay Packers at Lumen Field on Sunday Night Football in Week 15. Mike Macdonald’s squad is coming off a terrific 30-point showing in a comfortable victory over their NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals. We’ve compiled three bold predictions for the offense versus the Packers.

Zach Charbonnet shines again

Starting running back Kenneth Walker III missed his second consecutive practice on Thursday with an ongoing calf injury. In relief of Walker last Sunday against the Cardinals, Zach Charbonnet rushed for a career-high 134 yards and two touchdowns via 22 carries. Charbonnet could impress for a second consecutive week in a lead-back role.

DK Metcalf leads the passing offense

DK Metcalf has taken a backseat to Jaxon Smith-Njigba in recent weeks. JSN has been serving as Geno Smith’s go-to receiver in a breakout sophomore season. Metcalf has remained a steady performer, recording 49-plus receiving yards in five consecutive appearances. DK hasn’t scored a touchdown in four straight games, however. He’s due for a big-time showing.

Sataoa Luamea plays a quality game

Sixth-round rookie Sataoa Luamea will start his third straight game at right guard in place of the injured Anthony Bradford. The former Utah standout was steady in pass protection versus the Cardinals, allowing zero sacks and just one quarterback pressure. Luamea is attempting to continue his level of play against a Packers defensive line posting a 26th-ranked 35% pass-rush-win-rate (PRWR), per ESPN Stats & Info.

Seahawks Week 15 injury report: Ken Walker missed 2nd practice

Seahawks Week 15 injury report: Ken Walker missed 2nd practice

The Seattle Seahawks are gearing up for an important NFC showdown on Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers. It will be the first time since 2018 that Seattle has hosted Green Bay at Lumen field. Unfortunately, the Seahawks could be without running back Kenneth Walker III once again.

For a second-straight day, Walker was a non-participant at practice. Should Walker miss yet another game, Seattle will be in good hands… er, legs… with backup Zach Charbonnet. Against the Arizona Cardinals, Charbonnet had a breakout game with 134 yards on 22 carries and two first half touchdowns. Charbonnet has eight career scores, and seven of them have come in the 2024 campaign.

Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III is elite at making defenders miss

Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III is elite at making defenders miss

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III did not play in Sunday’s 30-18 Week 14 victory over the Arizona Cardinals due to a calf injury. Zach Charbonnet filled in more than admirably, rushing for 134 yards and a touchdown. Head coach Mike Macdonald called Walker “day to day” at Wednesday’s practice, for which he remained sidelined. When Seattle’s top-choice ball carrier has been on the field this season, he’s been elite at making defenders miss.

Walker leads the Seahawks in rushing yards with 542 despite missing three games this season. Pro Football Focus does an outstanding job tracking advanced running back data. Walker ranks second in the entire league in missed tackles forced (MTF) after a rush with 58, tied with Green Bay Packers back Josh Jacobs.

Najee Harris leads the league in missed tackles according to PFF with 59. Walker has carried the football on 145 occasions this campaign compared to 223 for Harris. It’s safe to assume a fully healthy Walker would be topping the league in that category.

Both of Seattle’s running backs have done an outstanding job navigating the difficulties provided by an underperforming offensive line. Charbonnet ranks fifth in yards after contact per attempt (YCO/A) at 3.61. As a tandem, they’ve been highly effective in making defenders miss either at the line of scrimmage, or after contact.

Seahawks Week 15 injury report: Kenneth Walker DNP

Seahawks Week 15 injury report: Kenneth Walker DNP

The Seattle Seahawks have announced their first injury report for Week 15, and on the list of non-participants at practice was running back Kenneth Walker III. Absent from the Week 14 win over Arizona due to a calf injury, Walker once again did not not practice. Backup Zach Charbonnet had a strong performance in his place, but there is no doubt the Seahawks would prefer to have their starter in the lineup.

It was a heavy day of non-participants due to rest, which I believe every 12 out there can understand. The good news is punter Michael Dickson was a limited participant. That coupled with the release of Ty Zentner sends a message that the team believes Dickson is trending upwards health-wise.

Here is the full injury report from Wednesday’s practice.
