Notre Dame visit on tap for son of NFL legend

Will he end up in blue and gold?

We’re a long way from 2024 safety Kennedy Urlacher making his college decision but as it sits right now Notre Dame has to at least like their standing.  The Chandler, Arizona product is set to make his first visit South Bend this weekend.

Urlacher, the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher, clearly thinks highly of Notre Dame.  He recently told Irish Breakdown:

“I expect Notre Dame to be one of my top schools for sure, and I’m excited to see all the coaches and facilities, I think I fit well into the Notre Dame program and that the relationships I’ve made with coaches over there have been great so far.”

Urlacher is listed at 6-1, 180-pounds.  He also told Irish Breakdown that he’s made visits already to Kansas, Kansas State, and Miami and that he also plans on visiting TCU.  He is listed as having 19 offers on 247Sports and is ranked as a three-star prospect.

Friday Night Notes: National Signing Day watch, the latest commitments and more

A look at the latest recruiting news as National Signing Day awaits on Wednesday, February 1.

USA TODAY High School Sports‘ Friday Night Notes is a weekly high school recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2023 to ’24 and beyond.

National Signing Day comes on Wednesday, February 1 – a major landmark for recruits in the class of 2023 to sign with their intended schools.

That means there are some big names that we will be watching over the next several days to see where they land. Here are the top-five remaining unsigned players in this recruiting cycle and where they might end up.

Archbishop Carroll (DC) Athlete Nyckoles Harbor

The best player who has yet to make a college decision is Harbor, who may be the most versatile prospect in the entire class. Harbor (6-foot-5, 225 pounds) plays edge and wide receiver and returns kickoffs, as well. He’s a hot candidate with 42 offers overall. Maryland, Michigan, Oregon and South Carolina are in the lead to get him to sign.

Pinnacle (Ariz.) Tight end Duce Robinson

Robinson (6-foot-6, 225 pounds) is the No. 1 tight end in the country and ranks No. 17 overall. 28 teams have made Robinson an offer. His most recent official visit was to Texas and Oregon is getting some late buzz, but right now Georgia appears to be the clear favorite.

Pittsburg (Calif.) Quarterback Jaden Rashada

After flipping from Miami to Florida and then getting released from his letter of intent, Rashada (6-foot-4, 175 pounds) is the biggest wild card left in the deck. He’s ranked No. 7 among quarterbacks in his class and is getting a ton of attention – including from several new schools. According to On3, TCU, Arizona State, Washington, California, South Carolina, Utah and Nebraska are now also in the mix for Rashada.

Junipero Serra (Calif.) Cornerback Rodrick Pleasant

Pleasant (5-foot-11, 180 pounds) is one of the top-10 cornerbacks in his class and is ranked No. 7 overall in California. 30 programs have extended offers to Pleasant, with Boston College, California, Oregon, UCLA and USC in the lead, per 247Sports.

Folsom (Calif.) Tight end Walker Lyons

Lyons (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) is the fifth-best tight end in the class of 2023, according to the composite rankings. He has offers from 33 schools; Georgia, BYU, USC, Utah and Stanford are all considered to be in the running.

Notre Dame football offers NFL Hall of Famer’s son

Will he have a similar career path as his father?

The [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] football staff loves offering players with [autotag]NFL[/autotag] bloodlines and this recent offer sure has the flavor. Head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] has a previous relationship for [autotag]NFL Hall of Fame[/autotag] linebacker [autotag]Brian Urlacher[/autotag]. They were teammates in 2009, both of them in the same position group playing for the Chicago Bears.

The familiarity with the family has led the Irish to offer a scholarship to [autotag]Kennedy Urlacher[/autotag], Brian’s son. The younger Urlacher doesn’t play the same position as his father, Kennedy is a safety, which is the same spot his dad played with at [autotag]New Mexico[/autotag] before a transition to linebacker with the Bears.

The offer from Notre Dame isn’t Kenney’s first Power-5 offer but you can argue that it is his biggest up-to-date.

Iowa Hawkeyes offer 2024 recruit Kennedy Urlacher, son of former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher

The Iowa Hawkeyes have offered class of 2024 cornerback Kennedy Urlacher, the son of former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher.

The Iowa Hawkeyes have officially offered class of 2024 defensive back Kennedy Urlacher. The last name may ring a bell to many as he is the son of former Chicago Bears and future Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher.

Urlacher is early along in the recruiting process as a member of the 2024 class. He is listed at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. The defensive back currently attends Chandler High School in Chandler, Ariz.

According to 247Sports, Urlacher is a three-star recruit, the nation’s No. 56 cornerback and the No. 19 player from the state of Arizona in the 2024 cycle.

His father recently discussed Kennedy’s recruitment with CBS Chicago’s Marshall Harris.

“He’s getting a lot of hype because of his size and his ability. He’s athletic. The thing I like about him is that he’s knowledgeable. He works his tail off in the weight room. But the kid is smart. He actually thinks I know something about football. For a couple of years, he thought I was a complete idiot.

“So it’s nice having him ask me questions about football. Good questions too, coverage questions. Things that, if you didn’t play football, you wouldn’t understand. So it’s nice to see him ask, what I think, are good questions. Athletically he’s there and he busts his butt every single day, which I appreciate,” Brian Urlacher said of his son Kennedy Urlacher.

The other schools interested in Urlacher are much more local to him than the Hawkeyes, although Iowa is the biggest offer to come through to this point. Urlacher has also received offers from Arizona, New Mexico and Northern Arizona.

New Mexico offered all the way back on Sept. 8, 2020. Arizona and Northern Arizona offered on March 29, 2021, and June 10, 2021, respectively.

Iowa currently has four in-state players committed in the 2024 class: offensive lineman Cody Fox out of East Buchanan High School, linebacker Cam Buffington out of Winfield-Mt. Union High School, athlete Derek Weisskopf out of Williamsburg High School and athlete Preston Ries out of Monticello High School.

According to 247Sports, the Hawkeyes’ current set of commits comprise the nation’s No. 2 class. Rivals and On3 currently rank Iowa’s 2024 class as the country’s No. 3 class.

Here’s a look at Urlacher’s freshman season Hudl highlights from the 2020 season at Chandler High School.
