Keenan Allen on future with Chargers: ‘I don’t want to go nowhere else’

Keenan Allen could be dealt to clear up salary cap space.

With the Chargers set to be over the league’s salary cap, they will have to do some wheeling and dealing with some of their players this offseason to create space, whether it’s extending, trading, restructuring or releasing them.

Among the current highest-paid players who could be dealt to open up salary cap space is wide receiver Keenan Allen. Allen, however, hopes that he remains in Los Angeles.

“I don’t want to go nowhere else,” Allen said. “I’ve been here 10 years, like you said, the longest guy on the team, so I’m not looking forward to anything else.”

Allen is coming off the best season of his career before suffering a heel injury that kept him sidelined for the final four games of the season. In 13 games, he set the Chargers’ single-season record for receptions with 108 and amassed 1,243 yards, the second-most in his career.

Allen is due $18.1 million in the final year of his contract. Meanwhile, the Bolts are expected to be over $45 million over the projected $240.5 million salary cap in 2024.

If he happened to be traded, Allen said he would only play for a “select few” teams. Otherwise, he would retire.

“If it did come down to that, adios amigos,” Allen said. “I’ll get picked up in the offseason or right before the playoffs like them old heads be doing.”

Chargers WR Keenan Allen on pace to shatter personal records

Keenan Allen has been nothing short of phenomenal in Year 11.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen was sensational in the Chargers’ loss to the Lions.

Allen finished with 11 catches for 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns, all while dealing with a shoulder injury during a good chunk of the second half.

“He’s an incredible player,” Justin Herbert said. “The teammate, the player, he does everything. He means everything to this offense. To see him battle and fight and go back out there, he leads by example. He’s an incredible teammate.”

Allen is 31 years old but playing like he’s 10 years younger. The play on the field has been phenomenal and the stats reflect it.

Allen is up to 73 catches, 895 yards and six scores with eight games remaining. His personal bests are 106 receptions, 1,393 yards and eight touchdowns.

As the team’s primary weapon and how consistently open he gets with his silky-smooth route running, Allen will continue to be heavily targeted, putting him in a position to surpass those numbers.

Chargers WR Keenan Allen reaches 10,000 receiving yards: ‘One of the best to ever do it’

Keenan Allen achieved the historic milestone in seasonable style.

Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen exceeded 10,000 receiving yards on Monday Night Football versus the Jets. The veteran achieved the historic milestone in seasonable style with an insane 23-yard left-handed grab.

To make the memorable night even sweeter, Los Angeles earned a 27-6 win over New York, which puts the Bolts at a 4-4 record. As Allen entered the tunnel postgame, he shared a quick embrace with general manager Tom Telesco while holding the ball he earned the benchmark with.

Allen is the 54th player in NFL history to surpass 10,000 receiving yards. The five-time Pro Bowler now trails Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe on the list, who reached 10,060 yards playing for the Ravens and Broncos.

Only one other former Chargers receiver, Antonio Gates, has reached 10,000 career yards. Allen ranks second in franchise history in yards and receptions behind Gates.

Allen joins an elite group of current players as the only active pass-catchers with at least 10,000 career receiving yards. The group includes Davante Adams, Travis Kelce, DeAndre Hopkins, Julio Jones and Mike Evans.

The veteran, who has played for the Chargers all his 11 seasons, is what some may call timeless.

“He’s one of the best to ever do it,” Justin Herbert said of his No.1 receiver. “I’m privileged and honored to be able to throw him the ball.”

WR Keenan Allen closes out Chargers training camp with a bang

Keenan Allen continues to make plays.

The Chargers wrapped up their 2023 training camp on Wednesday before their final preseason game against the 49ers on Friday, and it was Keenan Allen who left his mark at Hoag Performance Center.

Allen caught six passes, and four went for touchdowns, according to The Athletic’s Daniel Popper.

Allen, the red zone magnet, made a lot of notable plays, but arguably the most eye-popping was when he pulled in a touchdown pass that he bobbled to himself with cornerback Michael Davis in coverage.

“I got a good look at it,” Staley said of Allen’s scoring play. “It was one of those catches that only Keenan can make.

While most of the attention during the summer from the wide receiver group was on Quentin Johnston, Allen was doing what he does best by being a reliable weapon for quarterback Justin Herbert.

While he is getting up in age, set to be 31 this season and coming off an injury-riddled campaign, Allen is still a play-maker when healthy, as evident from catches like this. He is still one of the best route runners in the league and is a safety blanket on third down.

Allen has been vital to the Bolts’ offense throughout his professional career. During that span, Allen has caught 796 passes for 9,287 yards and 52 touchdowns.

Under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Allen will continue to be the centerpiece of the pass catchers, but he should see some time on the outside in addition to his primary spot in the slot.

Chargers WR Keenan Allen on importance of OTAs: ‘I use it as a lift’

Keenan Allen talked about his mentality at Chargers OTAs.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen is a seasoned veteran at this point of his NFL career but still chooses to participate in the Chargers’ organized team activities to stay sharp ahead of each new season.

One of the team’s unquestioned leaders, Allen talked about the importance of the offseason workouts, emphasizing the benefits he sees from taking part in the annual tradition.

It helps me get into shape I use it as a lift. I get the lift in, get the meetings. Obviously, we have the new coordinator, so I want to know all of the terminology so that I can play fast myself, so that I can help the young guys — when we break the huddle, get them lined up when they need help. Make sure that everybody is on the same page. We need old guys out here, too.

In 2022, Allen missed seven games due to a hamstring issue, finishing with 66 catches for 752 yards and four touchdowns.

The 10-year wideout has been vital to the Bolts’ offense throughout his professional career. During that span, Allen has caught 796 passes for 9,287 yards and 52 touchdowns.

While he is getting up in age, set to be 31 this season and coming off an injury-riddled campaign, Allen is productive when healthy. He is still one of the best route runners in the league. He is a safety blanket on third down.

Chargers WR Keenan Allen making big impact since his return

Chargers WR Keenan Allen’s performances continue to get stronger by the week.

Since the Chargers have been riddled with injuries from the start of the season, several key players have been missed, including wide receiver Keenan Allen who is an essential piece of the offense.

Allen was absent for most of the first half of the season due to a hamstring injury. But since his return, he’s made his presence felt, and his performances continue to get stronger by the week.

On Monday night, Chargers fans saw a classic performance from Allen, where he had 11 catches for 104 yards against the Colts. This was his first 100-yard performance of the season.

“I liked how we were able to locate Keenan today with 11 receptions,” Staley said at his post-game press conference on Monday.

Through the last four games, he’s racked up 37 catches for 370 yards and a touchdown. He’s averaging 12.8 targets, 9.3 receptions and 92.5 receiving yards since Week 13.

Although Allen missed a portion of the season, it seems as though the veteran is getting hot at the right time. He will be an integral piece in an offense that needs to get rolling in these final two games ahead of the playoffs.

Mike Evans throws shade at Keenan Allen with this hilarious tweet

WR Keenan Allen was none too pleased with his ranking on the NFL top 100 list, but he may be even ore upset by this Mike Evans tweet.

The NFL Network’s Top 100 list always seems to cause a bit of controversy, and for Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen, it seems he’s had enough.

The receiver took to Twitter after he came in at No. 77 on the list and voiced his displeasure about his ranking. While that would’ve been understandable, Allen didn’t stop there. He decided to drag a few other receivers into his argument, saying guys like Tyreek Hill, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin weren’t better than him.

It seems Evans had something to say, responding to Allen with this tweet.

First, kudos to Evans for having Godwin’s back (Godwin’s Twitter name is @CGtwelve_). And second, that tweet by Evans belongs in the Hall of Fame.

What makes this tweet even better is that the Chargers visit the Bucs in Week 4, meaning we’ll get to see which of these receivers has the bigger day. Circle your calendars, folks.
