Chargers Week 16 injury report: Keenan Allen not practicing for second straight day

Keenan Allen’s availability for this Saturday against the Bills is now in question.

Keenan Allen (heel) did not practice on Wednesday, marking the second straight day he was non participant ahead of the Chargers’ game against the Bills.

Allen’s availability for this Saturday is now in question. This would be the second consecutive game he misses if he’s ruled out.

Allen is currently the league leader in receptions with 108, and has 1,243 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

Deane Leonard (heel) was also a non-participant.

Essang Bassey (concussion), Tanner Muse (knee), Amen Ogbongbemiga (hamstring), Trey Pipkins (wrist) and Nick Williams (shoulder) were limited.

Chargers’ Keenan Allen, Mike Williams participate in individual drills during Wednesday’s practice

Chargers wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams could be making their returns soon.

Allen and Williams participated in individual drills at practice Wednesday ahead of Los Angeles’ Week 11 matchup with the Chiefs on Sunday night.

When asked he is playing this weekend, Allen responded, “I hope.” Meanwhile, Williams said, “Maybe,” with a big smile and laugh.

Allen has been out since suffering a hamstring injury during the Bolts’ Week 1 victory over the Raiders.

Williams sustained a high ankle sprain in Week 7 against the Texans. The Chargers had their bye week the week after, and he has missed their last two games.

We will continue to monitor their statuses closely leading into the primetime showdown.

Chargers’ Keenan Allen unlikely to play vs. Chiefs, Brandon Staley confident in wide receiver room

The Chargers are planning to play without WR Keenan Allen on Thursday night.

The Chargers are expected to be without their top wide receiver when they take on the Chiefs on Thursday.

Keenan Allen suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter of the season opener against the Raiders and did not return.

On Tuesday, ahead of the matchup with Kansas City, head coach Brandon Staley gave an update and said that “it’s not looking great” for Allen regarding his status.

Before exiting the game, Allen posted four catches for 66 yards.

After Allen left, Los Angeles’ passing offense still managed to be productive – quarterback Justin Herbert finished the game 26-of-34 passing for 279 yards and three touchdowns.

Herbert spread the wealth, connecting with nine different targets. But the pass-catcher who had the most significant impact was DeAndre Carter, who caught three passes for 64 yards and one touchdown.

As it stands, the Chargers have four healthy wide receivers on the roster. Whether or not they will promote one from the practice squad remains to be seen. If they chose to do so, they have three options: Michael Bandy, Jason Moore Jr., and Joe Reed.

“We’re still working through that for the next couple of days. We can decide to go with four wideouts, bring somebody else up in another position, or we could flex a receiver,” Staley said. “We’re still working through the initial stages of the plan, but I do think that we have receivers who are capable of being elevated and performing well for us.”

If Allen is sidelined, Mike Williams and Josh Palmer are expected to step up in place of him. Williams saw just three targets, finishing with two catches for 10 yards, while Palmer posted three catches for five yards on four targets last Sunday.

The Chiefs defense held Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray to just 179 passing yards in Week 1.

Chargers WR Keenan Allen questionable to return vs. Raiders with hamstring injury

One of the Chargers’ key offensive cogs might be out for the rest of the game.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen is questionable to return with a hamstring injury. Allen pulled up early on a route midway through the second quarter but made his way to the sideline under his own power.

While it doesn’t appear to be an injury at first glance, hamstring issues commonly keep pass catchers out for somewhere between two and four weeks if they prove to be even minorly serious.

If Allen can’t go, second-year receiver Joshua Palmer and kick returner DeAndre Carter figure to have bigger roles for the remainder of the game.

Allen had four receptions for 66 yards before exiting.

Update: Allen has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Report: Chargers WR Keenan Allen not expected to play vs. Broncos

The Chargers are planning to rest their star receiver.

The Chargers are most likely going to be without their star wide receiver on Sunday against the Broncos.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) is not expected to play. Allen was listed as questionable on the injury report.

Allen only managed to practice in a limited capacity Friday and coach Anthony Lynn considered him a “game-time decision.”

Schefter added that Los Angeles intended to rest Allen last Thursday against the Raiders but he still played. The plan is to let him recover in Week 16.

In that outing, Allen played only 24 snaps and received just three targets while dealing with the same injury

If Allen doesn’t play, he will snap his regular season games played streak, which is currently at 62.

Named a Pro Bowler for the fourth time in his career, Allen has 100 catches, 992 receiving yards and eight touchdowns this season.
