Alabama softball’s 2024 season stays alive after the Crimson Tide defeated No. 10 Duke in a Women’s College World Series elimination game.

Despite a rocky 2024 regular season, the Alabama Crimson Tide softball team has made it to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series. After falling to the UCLA Bruins in the opening round, the Crimson Tide fought hard to take down the No. 10 Duke Blue Devils in a win-or-go-home elimination game with a final score of 2-1.

Alabama’s lack of offense throughout the season has resulted in the Crimson Tide being comfortable in low-scoring contests, relying heavily on defense and consistent pitching.

A late solo home run by Marlie Giles was the difference-maker that broke the tie and put Alabama up by one run.

Alabama will next play on Sunday against the loser of the Florida Gators vs. the Texas Longhorns in another must-win game that will end one team’s season.

Before looking ahead to the next game, relive the excitement from the Crimson Tide’s win over Duke.

Alabama softball takes down Duke in a Women’s College World Series elimination game.

The No. 14 Alabama Crimson Tide softball team took down the No. 10 Duke Blue Devils in a Women’s College World Series elimination game with a final score of 2-1, thanks to a sixth-inning home run by Marlie Giles.

A low-scoring contest is not unusual for the Crimson Tide, as the team’s bats have been inconsistent throughout the season, but the pitching has kept them in the game.

Patrick Murphy’s squad managed to hold on to the late lead and will now wait for the Texas Longhorns and the Florida Gators to play on Saturday. On Sunday, the Crimson Tide will face the loser.

The next loss will end Alabama’s 2024 season. It’s win or go home from here on out.

Alabama softball pitcher Kayla Beaver was recently named to D1Softball’s All-American Second Team.

The Alabama Crimson Tide softball team is not finished with its season yet. The Crimson Tide will take part in the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City. Their first game will take place on Thursday afternoon against the UCLA Bruins. Prior to arriving in Oklahoma City, Alabama pitcher Kayla Beaver was named to D1Softball’s All-American Second Team.

Beaver has been everything that Alabama could have hoped for this season. The Central Arkansas transfer has compiled an 18-9 record with a 1.58 earned run average in 186.1 innings pitched. Alabama softball upsets No. 3 Tennessee 1-0

Alabama softball uses defensive masterclass to knock off No. 3 Tennessee 1-0

After losses against No. 3 Tennessee on Friday and Saturday, the No.17 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide were able to salvage the weekend series and pick up a 1-0 victory in Tuscaloosa on Sunday.

It was a defensive duel all afternoon long, but the Crimson Tide were able to crack through in the 5th inning as Kristen White hit a chopper to the shortstop and was able to run it out while driving in Kenleigh Cahalan for the game’s lone score. Alabama pitcher Kayla Beaver was completely dominant as she combined to give up only two hits in her shutout performance to improve to 15-7 on the year.

Despite the Sunday victory, the series against the Volunteers was the third straight Alabama has lost after coming up short against No. 12 Texas A&M and No. 14 Arkansas the past two weekends. The ladies will be traveling to Auburn next weekend for a massive road series with the Tigers.

Alabama softball knocks off No. 5 Georgia on Sunday 5-4

Alabama softball picks up a huge road win against No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday

The No. 15 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide softball team used a massive five-run fourth earning to pick up a 5-4 road victory against No. 5 Georgia on Sunday. The Bulldogs did pick up wins on Friday and Saturday to secure the series, but picking up a road win against a top-five team is still huge for the Tide moving forward.

All things considered, it was a successful week for the Tide as they also picked up a 3-0 victory against No. 13 Florida on Monday before traveling to Tallahassee, FL on Wednesday and knocking off the No. 16 Seminoles 4-1. Alabama is now 22-5 on the year, but only 2-4 in SEC play.

Just like the baseball team today, the game went all the way down to the final pitch as [autotag]Kayla Beaver[/autotag] struck out a swinging Jaiden Fields with bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. Beaver was phenomenal as she pitched a complete game allowing just seven hits and two earned runs. The Tide will be back in action on Tuesday against Samford.

Alabama softball lands coveted pitcher from the transfer portal

Alabama softball lands ace pitcher Kayla Beaver from the transfer portal!

A couple of days ago the legendary Montana Fouts wrapped up her Alabama softball career with the Tide’s loss to Stanford in the Women’s College World Series. Now, coach Patrick Murphy and Alabama have landed her replacement from the transfer portal. On Sunday afternoon, it was announced that Kayla Beaver of Central Arkansas committed to the Crimson Tide.

The Jackson, Tennessee native finished the year with a 25-7 record to go with a 1.15 earned run average. She also struck out 194 batters over 201⅔ innings. Over four seasons at UCA, she is 74-22 with a 1.52 ERA and 514 strikeouts in 602 innings pitched.

Coach Murphy mentioned following the Tide’s loss on Friday night that the Tide would be looking to add a couple of players from the portal.

“We’re going to add probably a couple here in a couple of weeks because now it’s off-season recruiting time in the portal,” he said. “We’ll probably have at least two more that will join us.”

Kayla made the announcement on her Instagram earlier on Sunday!
