Kay Adams has a bold prediction for Chase Young’s 2023 season

What would be a successful season for Chase Young in 2023?

Kay Adams was in Ashburn for Washington Commanders’ training camp on Wednesday. The host of “Up and Adams” on FanDuel TV interviewed several Commanders, including Antonio Gibson, Jahan Dotson, Ron Rivera, Sam Howell and Chase Young.

Throughout the episode, Adams let it be known she sees a huge bounceback season for Young. Adams, on more than one occasion, called Young the 2023 NFL defensive player of the year.

As for Young, he smiled and laughed off the prediction.

“That’s funny,” Young said with a smile when Adams introduced him as the 2023 NFL DPOY. “I ain’t going to say nothing.”

Adams’ prediction is a bold one, but it’s not entirely out of left field. After all, Young was the NFL defensive rookie of the year in 2020. However, in the two seasons since, he has only nine sacks. Unfortunately, Young suffered a severe knee injury in Week 10 of the 2021 NFL season and didn’t return until Week 16 of the 2022 season.

Young’s injury and lack of production led the Commanders to decline Young’s fifth-year option for 2024, which would have guaranteed him over $17 million.

Young has the right attitude. He’s happy to be back with his teammates, mingling with Washington fans and enjoying the team’s new ownership. Regardless of whether Young wins an award or not, a healthy season with eight sacks or more should be considered a success.

Commanders Jahan Dotson is thankful and excited about new beginnings

Dotson is excited about new ownership, the fans and the overall direction of the franchise.

Jahan Dotson is thankful for the new Josh Harris ownership group.

Wednesday at the Commanders’ training camp, Kay Adams host of the “Up and Adams” Show, was visiting the team and conducted several interviews following practice. When it was Doston’s turn, he didn’t hesitate to express he already notices the difference the new ownership group is making.

“It’s really cool to see that we have the support of the fan base back out to our games, back out to our practices. It gives us life; it gives us energy. It’s really cool to have them out here supporting us.

It’s definitely really exciting times around here, getting new ownership in the building, new beginnings, I like to call it. It’s definitely pretty fun. We’re really looking forward to it (2023 season).”

Adams inquired to Dotson, What is a specific you have noticed already from the Josh Harris leadership?”

“The fans,” he replied with emphasis. “The fans is the biggest thing. It’s so easy to notice it when you come out to practice every day, and people are chanting your name. Last year? We didn’t have anything like that.”

The new ownership and increased fan attendance are not the only things encouraging Dotson. Adams asked about their trio of receivers Terry McLaurin, Dotson and Curtis Samuel. But Dotson seemed sincere to not want to merely focus on the trio but talk up the entire wide receivers group.

“Not only our trio; we have guys in our room who can all go. Terry is one of the best in the league and a great leader for us. We have guys that can all go and make plays at any given moment in the game.”

The receivers room is led by new wide receivers coach Bobby Ingram, who also has Dotson thinking things are trending upward.

“Bobby is my guy. Coach Ingram is a former Penn State grad. He’s our receivers coach now. He looks out for us. He’s a player’s coach. He makes sure we are always in the right position to succeed.”

When Adams transitioned to new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, she referred to him as a “drill sergeant.” But Dotson is OK with that. He feels Bieniemy brings an urgency to the coaching staff.

“He brings culture to our team. He demands success. He demands winning. He brings a winning attitude to our team, from the Super Bowl championship team. It’s really exciting that he’s come over and is helping us out.”

“We are getting guys in space; we are stretching the field. I am excited, and so are the other guys. It’s exciting times around here; we can’t wait.”

Kay Adams believes Jordan Addison is in for a monster year

Rookie wide receiver are seeing more and more success. Is Jordan Addison next?

When coming into the league, players have a lot to overcome in their first off-season. From pre-draft to rookie minicamp to the rigors of NFL training camp, rookies go through the wringer before even taking their first snaps. Outside of all of these factors, the speed of the game is drastically faster. So, any expectations for a player’s rookie year should be tempered.

Unless you’re Jordan Addison, walking into the number-two role in a Kevin O’Connell offense.

Kay Adams proclaimed on her show “Up & Adams” that Jordan Addison will have a monster year in his rookie season. Guest Matt Hamilton of FanDuel took it a step further and said that “1100 to 1200 yards” is not out of the realm of possibility.

Adams and Hamilton state that the presence of Justin Jefferson along with the absence of Dalvin Cook opens up more opportunities for Addison. Hamilton brought up the Vikings’ willingness to air the ball out. They had the third most passing attempts last season with Cook on the roster. With him gone, O’Connell could lean even more into the passing game.

They have one of the best receivers in the game right now. They have good supplementary pieces in tight end T.J. Hockenson and receiver K.J. Osborn. There’s a chance they have a solid running game with backs Alexander Mattison, Ty Chandler, and Dewayne McBride.

There is a ton of talent surrounding Addison in this offense. Defenses will have to account for that. That leaves an opportunity for newcomer Addison to carve out production relatively early.

Now, will it be to the tune of 1100+ yards? That’s tough to say. Only five receivers were able to break 1100 yards in their rookie year:

  • Odell Beckham, Jr. (2014)
  • Michael Thomas (2016)
  • Justin Jefferson (2020)
  • Ja’marr Chase (2021)
  • Garrett Wilson (2022)

All of these receivers were the main target in their respective offenses. Last season there were only two receiver duos that broke 1100 yards

  • Tyreek Hill (1710) & Jaylen Waddle (1356)
  • A.J. Brown (1496) & Devonta Smith (1196)

These are two deadliest wide receiver duos in the NFL. This information doesn’t make the feat impossible. It just makes it a bit less improbable.

Seahawks great Golden Tate was a guest on the Kay Adams show earlier this week and talked about touchdown celebrations in the NFL. One of the most-prolific showboaters of his time, Tate doesn’t seem to be impressed by the current trends in TD celebrations. Watch.

Actor Henry Winkler jokes that the Chiefs drafted him this offseason

Kansas City Chiefs celebrity superfan Henry Winkler has often expressed his love for the team on various platforms and publications. He recently appeared as a guest on the morning sports show “Up and Adams,” hosted by Kay Adams, to jokingly announce that he was among the many new players added to the roster this offseason.

“Gotta say I was gonna break some news that I have finally, after a long negotiation, I have been drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs,” said Winkler with a smile. “I will be on their team this year. It’s amazing. I’m going to suit up, my God; I can’t believe.”

The famed “Happy Days” star notably met Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes last season before a Sunday night victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

He already has a plan for how he’ll help the Chiefs.

“OK, I’m going to stand right next to (Travis) Kelce,” said Winkler. “And then I’m going to stand behind Kelce, and he will protect me for the season, and I will just run with the ball, and he will be like a wrecking machine and knocking over the pins of any other team.”

Winkler continued to break down his strengths as a football player and goals within the Chiefs’ high-powered offense.

“Yeah, it will be very, very difficult to find me on the field,” said Winkler. “But you know, what if I catch one ball from the Master Mahomes? I will be in heaven. Then everything I’ve ever dreamed of will have come true.”

C.J. Gardner-Johnson on Week 13 game vs. Michael Thomas: ‘He knows what time it is’

C.J. Gardner-Johnson passed on the chance to trash-talk his old teammate Michael Thomas, telling Kay Adams: ‘He knows what time it is’

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Stir that pot, Kay Adams. The FanDuelTV host interviewed former New Orleans Saints defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson on her “Up & Adams Show” program and touched on a variety of topics — including his infamous scrap with Michael Thomas at a Saints practice session. The two are set to cross paths again when Gardner-Johnson’s Detroit Lions visit New Orleans in Week 13.

Credit to Gardner-Johnson for keeping his composure when Adams asked him to sample some trash talk. He didn’t exactly hold back against the Georgia Bulldogs (heated rivals with his Florida Gators) or Philly cheesesteaks (the signature sandwich of the last city he played football for).

“He knows what time it is, and I’m not going to say nothing about that. He knows what time it is,” Gardner-Johnson added with a grin.

When pressed for details, Gardner-Johnson laughed and advised Adams to ask their old coach: “Call Sean (Payton).”

Still, he gave us something. Gardner-Johnson could have jumped down from the top rope and taken the opportunity to really let loose, but he instead kep things professional, even if the message came through gritted teeth: “He better not come my way with that crazy stuff. Keep it on the field, keep it at that. Keep it at that.”

We’ll never know for sure what led to the two coming to blows, because anyone who knows for sure isn’t talking. At the time a bogus report from a fake Twitter account was picked up by bloggers and some podcast hosts, spawning the “Slant Boy” nickname for Thomas, but that’s not it. Unless Thomas feels like clearing the air himself, it sounds like we’ll need to take Gardner-Johnson’s advice and go ask Payton — who probably isn’t eager to rehash the story himself.

Kay Adams believes the Vikings have the most tortured fanbase

Nobody has experienced heartbreak quite like the Vikings

There is no fanbase quite like that of the Minnesota Vikings.

Year in and year out, this team sucks you in and gets you to believe only to be let down again. It’s like the scene from Arrested Development where Tobias Funke convinces himself that it might work for us.

” Well, did it work for those people?”

“No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but…but it might work for us.”

That is the epitome of Vikings fans. We believe and believe no matter how many times we get punched in the gut.

After the Vikings have something heartbreaking happen to them, the national media mentions it in some way and Kay Adams said on her podcast that she feels for Vikings fans and rightfully so.

“On the Vikings side, more heartbreak for a fanbase that I’m telling you, I’ve said this and people like to argue who’s the most tortured fanbase. It’s the Vikings.”

She is spot on and goes on to give a long-winded, detailed answer breaking down why but the root is simple. They get us to believe, suck us back in when we know full well the end result and we still get let down.

One day we might learn, but today is not that day.

Former NFL player and current analyst believes the Commanders are dark-horse Super Bowl contender

The Commanders? A Super Bowl contender? One former NFL player believes so.

Former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall had a distinguished playing career. Marshall played 13 NFL seasons, made two All-Pro teams, six Pro Bowls and finished with 970 receptions and 83 receiving touchdowns.

Shortly after his retirement, Marshall joined the media, and much like his time as a player, he isn’t afraid to speak his mind.

Marshall is currently an analyst for Inside the NFL and was a guest this week on “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams of Fanduel TV.

Adams and Marshall discussed the San Francisco 49ers and if they were a Super Bowl contender with rookie Brock Purdy at quarterback.

“They’re not winning the Super Bowl; they’re contenders,” Marshall said of the 49ers. They’ll probably be in the NFC championship.”

Marshall then went on to discuss which other NFC teams he likes.

“I like the Philadelphia Eagles,” he said. “I like the Dallas Cowboys. Those three teams and I also like the Commanders. I think the Commanders could be the 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers. They’re at 7-5, and then all of a sudden they go into your place, Chicago, Soldier Field, they whoop up on the Bears, and then they go on this legendary run and then find themselves in the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks. And they win the Super Bowl.”

After Marshall discussed the 2005 Bears, he quickly turned his attention back to the 2022 Commanders.

“I say that because there is always one dark horse every year,” Marshall said. “One team that we never thought would do it. The Cincinnati Bengals, did we think the Cincinnati Bengals would be in the Super Bowl last year? So in the NFC, those are the four teams that I like. I’m not saying the Commanders are as good as the other teams, but it’s about who’s going to get hot right now. The Dallas Cowboys, could this be the year? We’ve been talking about this for 25 years?”

Afterward, Adams joked with Marshall that she was just reveling in the clickbait that he gave her by saying the Commanders could win the Super Bowl.

Marshall is certainly right about one thing; it’s often about who gets hot at the right time. Can the Commanders stay hot through the remainder of the season into the playoffs?

We shall see.

NFL analyst: Tua Tagovailoa needs to move to front and center of MVP conversation

Miami has lost the three games that he either didn’t play or didn’t finish.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been impressive during the first half of their 2022 campaign.

The former first-round pick has won all six of the games that he’s started and finished while completing 69.9% of his passes for 1,980 yards, 15 touchdowns and three interceptions. He also leads the NFL with a 115.9 passer rating.

Obviously, having new head coach Mike McDaniel’s system and two stud playmakers in Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill has helped, but Miami hasn’t been able to earn a win without Tagovailoa this year.

This has led Tagovailoa to have his name brought up in certain conversations regarding the Most Valuable Player honor. Former NFL Network analyst Kay Adams argued for Tagovailoa to be “front and center” for these discussions, on her show, “Up & Adams.”

While it’s probably not fair to say that Tagovailoa has been the best quarterback in the league, it’s clear that he’s valuable to this team, and he’s playing very well. If he continues this pace, there’s no reason he can’t be one of the top candidates by the season’s end.

DK Metcalf with the whole scoop on the cart ride to, um, poop

DK Metcalf came clean with why he need a cart to get to the restroom

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf was a guest Tuesday on “Up & Adams,” the FanDuel TV show hosted by former “Good Morning Football” talent Kay Adams.

Of course, the conversation got around to the cart ride Metcalf was given to the locker room in Detroit, which Adams described as “the bowel movement that shook the NFL.”

Metcalf explained how he felt the need to go but then was okay and returned to the field for a couple of plays before realizing he needed relief. There is some salty language in the video.

He said he was surprised it became big news, going viral.

“If anybody has played in Detroit, they know it is a long— walk from the locker room to the field,” he said. “And I was not going to make that walk.”

There were some options — unacceptable ones — presented to Metcalf by head coach Pete Carroll.
