Kary Kutsch has minicamp offers after going undrafted

Kary Kutsch has reportedly received minicamp offers from the Giants and Seahawks

No Colorado Buffaloes players heard their names called during the 2022 NFL draft, although both Carson Wells and Nate Landman signed undrafted free agent deals shortly thereafter.

One player that was up in the air when the draft rolled around was offensive lineman Kary Kutsch.

According to scout Gino Cammilleri, Kutsch has received a pair of rookie minicamp offers: one from the New York Giants and the other from the Seattle Seahawks.

Kutsch discussed the possibility of being selected during the NFL draft recently, and although he didn’t get to be selected, he has a shot to impress during camp and end up on the roster if things go well.

One of the most volatile positions in the NFL is the offensive line, so Kutsch can definitely stick around the NFL on practice squads worst case.
Although the trio of Buffs didn’t hear their names called, all three will be fighting for a roster spot pretty soon and it will be worth monitoring each individual situation leading up to the summer and the NFL preseason.

Buffs OL Kary Kutsch has drawn interest ahead of the NFL draft

Kary Kutsch has been drawing some interest ahead of the NFL draft

The two most common names discussed for the Colorado Buffaloes in the NFL draft are Nate Landman and Carson Wells.

However, let’s not forget about offensive lineman Kary Kutsch.

With the 2022 NFL draft beginning on Thursday evening in Las Vegas, Kutsch has drawn more interest over the past few weeks and has a shot to get an NFL deal if he goes undrafted.

In fact, Kutsch said one team with interest is the Los Angeles Chargers, according to Brian Howell of BuffZone.

Kutsch said other teams have been calling as well, and with the need for OL just about everywhere in the league, that is a good sign (h/t BuffZone).

“A couple of teams are calling now and kind of confirming things a little bit here and there. The picture’s not exactly clear yet. I won’t know until it’s all finally decided, but things are clearing up a little bit, making me feel a bit better.”

The Buffs are trying to make this the third straight draft in which an OL has been selected, with Arlington Hambright and Will Sherman being the others.

Whether or not Kutsch gets drafted remains to be seen, and there is a big possibility of all three of Kutsch, Wells and Landman going undrafted this upcoming weekend.

Nonetheless, the three Buffs should be on NFL rosters when the summer begins, barring some unforeseen circumstances.

WATCH: Kary Kutsch and Karl Dorrell talk O-line improvements and more

Kary Kutsch and Karl Dorrell spoke to the media on Monday

On Monday, two days after the Colorado Buffaloes’ 52-29 loss at Oregon, offensive lineman Kary Kutsch and head coach Karl Dorrell spoke with the media. Kutsch was a big part of the O-line’s improved play on Saturday and he talked about how the group has gotten back to some old techniques.

Dorrell’s opening statement focused on the recent defensive struggles and what needs to be fixed ahead of Oregon State. He also agreed that the O-line played its best game of the season following the coaching change. Other topics included the progression of Brendon Lewis and a couple of key injury updates.

The 2-6 Buffaloes welcome the 5-3 Beavers to Folsom Field at 5:00 p.m. MT on Saturday.

Carson Wells, Kary Kutsch and coach Dorrell share thoughts on Arizona win, upcoming week

Carson Wells, Kary Kutsch and Karl Dorrell all spoke to the media on Monday

The mood was noticeably better on Monday, two days after the Colorado Buffaloes earned their first win since the season opener. As I wrote on Saturday, confidence is a powerful commodity in college football; CU’s win, albeit against the 0-6 Arizona Wildcats, appeared to do wonders for a young Buffaloes team.

Taking the podium first was defensive end Carson Wells, who had four TFL’s, one sack and a pick-six vs. Arizona. I’d chalk up his performance to more than just a “confidence booster.”

Up next was offensive lineman Kary Kutsch. Colorado’s O-line has received plenty of flack for the team’s poor offensive numbers, but they played well against Arizona and helped Brendon Lewis have his best performance of 2021.

Karl Dorrell wrapped things up to discuss his final thoughts on Arizona and his initial impression of Cal, which the Buffaloes face in Berkeley on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. MST.
