2021 Kansas City Royals World Series, win total, pennant and division odds

Looking at the 2021 MLB futures for the Kansas City Royals, including odds for the World Series, pennant, division and their projected win total.

The 2020 Kansas City Royals took a bit of a step forward, playing .433-ball after logging back-to-back 100-loss seasons in 2018 and 2019. We look at the Kansas City Royals’ MLB futures odds, including their projected 2021 win total and World Series odds at BetMGM.

The Royals went 26-34 in last year’s pandemic-shortened season, placing fourth in the American League Central Division. K.C. averaged 4.1 runs per game on offense while yielding 4.5. The former is a bottom-10 figure in the league, but the latter represented a significant improvement from 2019 when the Royals coughed up 5.4 RPG.

C Salvador Perez had a big year at the plate, batting .333 with power (12 doubles, 11 home runs). Perez logged a .986 OPS; the problem for the Kansas City offense is that no other lineup regular posted an OPS over .778.

The Royals bullpen was counted on for a lot of innings, but that group came through with a sneaky-good performance. K.C. notched a 3.84 bullpen ERA, the eight-best in MLB.

Odds: +10000 (bet $100 to win $10,000)

Only the Texas Rangers (+15000) and Pittsburgh Pirates (+20000) have longer odds to win the World Series in 2021. While the profit is fantastic, this isn’t a bet to make. PASS.

Kansas City Royals’ 2021 win total

Over/Under: 73.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

The total here is fair, without much value on either side. But the Royals will be awfully reliant on young arms in a season in which depth (and innings-eating experienced depth) figures to play a key role. If there is a lean, its on fading the Royals a bit.

Odds to win the AL Central

  • Chicago White Sox: -125 (bet $125 to win $100)
  • Minnesota Twins: +150 (bet $100 to win $150)
  • Cleveland Indians: +750 (bet $100 to win $750)
  • Royals: +4000 (bet $100 to win $4,000)
  • Detroit Tigers: +6600 (bet $100 to win $6,600)

With only the Tigers having longer odds to win the AL Central, the strong lean here is a non-Royals bet is the best bet.

Odds to win the American League

The Royals (+6600) join the likes of the Orioles (+6600), Tigers (+6600) and Mariners (+6600) near the bottom of pack in the AL. Only the Rangers have worse odds at +8000. It isn’t worth investing on the Royals at this time, they have too much working against them.

How many games will the Kansas City Royals win in 2020?

Analyzing Kansas City Royals’ projected wins and World Series odds for the 2020 MLB season.

The Kansas City Royals have one of the strangest franchise trajectories of anyone this side of the Miami Marlins. In 2015, they won the World Series and everyone wanted to get paid. Their win totals dropped immediately – from 95 to 81 to 80 to 58 in 2018. They did themselves one better last year, winning 59, but they’re top goal is to avoid 100 losses for a third straight year.

Kansas City Royals 2019 wins

The Royals finished 59-103 last year, but it should be noted that, after the All-Star break, they had a record of 29-42 after hitting the break with a 30-61 record. There was improvement at a time when teams could have been piling on them.

Kansas City Royals offseason

The biggest offseason acquisition was new manager Mike Matheny, who returns to baseball after an unceremonious release from the St. Louis Cardinals in 2018. The Royals added reliever Chance Adams and third baseman Maikel Franco. It is hoped that Franco can add some pop to a lineup that was 28th in home runs and 25th or worse in just about every offensive category last year.

Kansas City has a huge number of +15000 because the Cleveland Indians (-250) has been solid for years, the Minnesota Twins (-145) is expected to run away with the division, followed by the Chicago White Sox (-350) is a year ahead in its youth movement. It would be one thing to be a decided underdog to one team in the division. But three? AVOID a bet on this one.

The Royals are one of four teams with BetMGM odds of a +100000, joining the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers and Miami Marlins on that ignominious list. It’s like buying a $10 scratcher hoping for a $100,000 win. It’s worth a small bet, but don’t expect any return.

How many games will Kansas City Royals win in 2020?

The over under is 64½ (-115 over, -106 under). It’s a number that is worthy of considering either, but the Royals are still young and building, especially in the rotation Brad Keller and Jakob Junis are slated to be the Nos. 2 and 3 starters. Both of them took their lumps last year and, while they should improve, this is a team built for speed in a big thumper world. They won’t lose 100, but our pick is 63-99. Take the under.
