Bengals defender comments on his dislike for Chiefs before Week 2 clash

One Bengals player didn’t hold back when talking about the rivalry with the Chiefs.

The Cincinnati Bengals are going to see some familiar faces in Week 2 in the Kansas City Chiefs when they head to Arrowhead for what has become somewhat of a rivalry over the past few seasons.

Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt, who is in his third season with the Bengals now, made his thoughts on Kansas City clear when he was asked on Wednesday about the upcoming matchup.

“I don’t like them,” Taylor-Britt said. “I don’t think I like a lot of teams, but we see them a lot. It didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to the last time. But playing those guys is always exciting.”

“I don’t shut up. I don’t shut up,” Taylor-Britt added when asked if he thinks there will be a lot of talking between the two teams during the game.

The Bengals are coming off of a bad loss to the New England Patriots in Cincinnati in Week 1, and to immediately have to come back against the back-to-back Super Bowl champions will certainly be a tough task, but the two teams have always found a way to make their games interesting.

Cincinnati took the first two of many matchups, beating the Chiefs late in the 2021-22 regular season by a field goal, and doing the same later that same month when Kansas City visited the Bengals for the AFC Championship game, which took the Bengals to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1989.

Then the Bengals won again in the 2022-23 regular season, again by three points, but since then Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have got the better of them, winning the AFC Championship two years ago and beating the Jake Browning-led team last season by one possession.

But the game in Kansas City this weekend will certainly be one to pay attention to.

Bengals get Tony Romo on the call again for showdown vs. Chiefs

The Bengals and Chiefs again get Tony Romo in the booth.

When the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Kansas City Chiefs for their Week 2 matchup of the 2024 regular season, fans will hear a familiar voice on the call for the 4:25 p.m. kickoff on CBS.

Yet again, the Bengals game against the Chiefs will feature Jim Nantz and Tony Romo in the booth along with Tracy Wolfson, and Bengals fans are growing even more tired of hearing Romo call their games, especially big ones against Kansas City.

The last time the two teams matched up late last season, the same broadcast crew called it. Romo and Nantz have also been in the booth for both of the AFC Championship games the two teams played against each other, as well as a game on Jan. 2, 2022, when Ja’Marr Chase had 11 catches for 266 yards and three touchdowns.

The Bengals are coming off of an ugly Week 1 loss to the New England Patriots, and with Ja’Marr Chase still without a new contract and Tee Higgins out with an injury last week, fans of the team likely have more important things they are worried about than who will be the voice they hear during that game, but it still wasn’t welcome information when Jay Morrison revealed it on Twitter.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce happy to play Bengals early in season

Interesting Bengals-related comments from Travis Kelce.

The Cincinnati Bengals schedule was released on Wednesday and one of the big time matchups comes early on in the seasons when they face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2.

Last season, the game they played against the Chiefs was in Week 16, a game the Bengals lost 25-17 when Jake Browning was leading the team under center since Joe Burrow was out after getting wrist surgery.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce doesn’t mind that the game is earlier this season, as he said on his New Heights podcast which he hosts with his brother Jason. He actually prefers they play the Bengals earlier in the year.

“I do like playing the potential, like, top teams in the league early,” Kelce said. “I’d rather play them early or like midseason. I don’t like playing at the end of season outside of the division. I just feel like it’s too close to the playoffs and if I have a chance to play them in the playoffs, I want to keep that game fresh. I feel like we’ve always played the Bengals in December or January. In my head, I’m like, ‘Man, I really just want to save the game and the excitement and the hype of that game for the playoffs.’

“Now with that being said, it comes around in the playoffs and you’re still excited and it’s still an unbelievable matchup. I think it’s cool that this year, we play the Ravens early [and] we play the Bengals early, and those are going to be two of the best teams in the NFL. So I’m excited, and it gets those two under our belt and kind of gives us somewhere to kind of gauge where we are amongst those teams early on. I like to see where I’m at and see what direction I need to go right now, if that makes sense.”

It’s possible Bengals players feel the same way about the schedule being set up the way it is. The Chiefs are obviously a team they could match up against in the playoffs. They will be able to measure where they are against the best in the league early on in the season.

Bengals vs. Chiefs live stream, time, viewing info for Week 17

Viewing info for Bengals vs. Chiefs in Week 17.

The Cincinnati Bengals are playing in their fourth-ever New Year’s Eve game, each of which has provided a lot of excitement in different ways. This one could be more of the same since it has playoff implications for Cincinnati. With the AFC wild card race as crowded as it is, the Bengals likely need to win their final two games of the season to get into the playoffs.

Jake Browning has looked like he could lead this team to the playoffs in every week he hasn’t played against the Pittsburgh Steelers so far, so he does have the ability to beat the Chiefs despite the Bengals being around seven-point underdogs midweek. Ja’Marr Chase would provide a big boost if they could get him back for the game Sunday.

The Chiefs lost to the Raiders last week and have been struggling this year more than they are used to despite the 9-6 record they carry into this game. Patrick Mahomes threw for 235 yards, one touchdown and an interception while also losing a fumble that the Raiders would take back for a touchdown. They would officially win the AFC West with a win this week, so they won’t be holding back.

John Hussey assigned to Bengals vs. Chiefs Week 17

Referee info for Bengals vs. Chiefs Week 17.

The Cincinnati Bengals match up against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17 on New Year’s Eve and the referee for that game has been revealed.

John Hussey will be the head referee for a Bengals game for the second time this season. The first was when they beat the Los Angeles Rams 19-16 on a Monday night in Week 3. Before that, he had also called the Bengals vs. Steelers game on Dec. 21, 2020, when Ryan Finley led Cincinnati to a win in which Juju Smith-Schuster took a big hit from Vonn Bell after dancing on the Bengals logo at midfield.

Cincinnati is 5-3 in games that Hussey is referee for and have a three-game win streak which includes its regular season win over the Chiefs last season.

Through 14 games this year, Hussey and his crew are averaging 12.8 flags thrown per game, including the Cleveland Browns win over the San Francisco 49ers in which 25 penalties were committed combined.

The Bengals are ranked second in the NFL with just 4.8 penalties per game and the Chiefs are 18th in the league with 6.0 per game.

Sunday will be fourth time Bengals play on New Year’s Eve

A look at how the Bengals have performed on the big holiday.

The Cincinnati Bengals‘ Week 17 game against the Kansas City Chiefs will be on New Year’s Eve with some important playoff implications for the Bengals.

This is the fourth time in franchise history the Bengals will have a game on the last day of the calendar year. Each of the previous three have been very memorable for the fans.

The first was in 1988 when they beat the Seattle Seahawks 21-13 which was in the divisional round of the playoffs. That year the Bengals would go on to the Super Bowl where they would lose to the San Francisco 49ers.

The next New Year’s Eve game wasn’t until 2006 when they matched up against the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006, a game that would help them clinch a playoff spot if they were to win. They lost the game in overtime with Carson Palmer under center, but didn’t get a chance to win since Ben Roethlisberger threw a 67-yard touchdown to Santonio Holmes on the first drive after regulation.

The most recent game on New Year’s Eve was in 2017, when Andy Dalton threw a 49-yard touchdown to Tyler Boyd on fourth-and-12 to eliminate the Baltimore Ravens from playoff contention, winning the game 31-27.

With the Chiefs having some struggles recently and what Jake Browning has shown he is able to do when he plays well, it could be another great game on the last day of the year for the Bengals.

Bengals New Year’s Eve games have historically brought excitement

History says the New Year’s Eve game for the Bengals should be a fun one.

The Cincinnati Bengals announced Wednesday that their Week 17 game will be in Kansas City when they play the Chiefs on New Year’s Eve.

This is only the third time in franchise history the Bengals will have a game on that day. All three so far have been very memorable for Bengals fans.

The first was in 1988, when they beat the Seattle Seahawks 21-13 in the divisional round of the playoffs, a team that would go on to lose in the Super Bowl to the San Francisco 49ers.

The Bengals played the Steelers on New Year’s Eve in 2006, a game that would clinch a playoff berth if they won. Carson Palmer led Cincinnati to overtime, but never got the chance to win it since Ben Roethlisberger and Santonio Holmes connected for a 67-yard touchdown to win it on the third play after regulation.

The most recent New Year’s Eve game was in 2017, a 31-27 win over the Baltimore Ravens. In the final minute, the Bengals down by three with their backs against the wall fourth-and-12 at midfield, Andy Dalton hit Tyler Boyd for a 49-yard touchdown pass to eliminate the Ravens from playoff contention.

New Year’s Eve has only brought excitement for the Bengals thus far, and a game against their biggest rival in the AFC currently could only add on to that.
