The Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) visit the Arizona Cardinals (1-0) Saturday. Kickoff from State Farm Stadium is at 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Chiefs vs. Cardinals odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Chiefs opened the preseason with a 26-24 road loss vs. the New Orleans Saints Sunday. Kansas City had a 24-17 lead in the 4th quarter but gave up a touchdown with 1:20 left to allow New Orleans to get back into things. QB Chris Oldadokun tossed an interception just a few plays later that led to the Saints hitting the game-winning field goal as time expired.

The Cardinals opened the preseason at home with an 18-17 comeback win over the Denver Broncos last Friday. Arizona trailed 17-10 with 1:30 left but went on a 10-play, 75-yard drive and scored on an 18-yard touchdown pass and successful 2-point conversion with 2 seconds remaining.

Chiefs at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 23, Chiefs 20

Moneyline

The Chiefs are expected to play their starters for around the first half, although QB Patrick Mahomes could play less than that. The Cardinals have not said how long they will play their starters.

In any case, it will be backups and NFL hopefuls deciding the outcome of the game. Preseason games are extremely unreliable and volatile for betting purposes.

The best way to bet on these preseason exhibitions is to simply play the underdog on the moneyline for the value.

BET CARDINALS (+240).

Against the spread

The Cardinals are 1-0 ATS with their preseason-opening win. The Chiefs are 0-1 ATS in the preseason with their loss.

But again, preseason games are too volatile for trend-follow bets.

PASS.

Kansas City Chiefs at Arizona Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Kansas City Chiefs at Arizona Cardinals Week 1 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Kansas City Chiefs kick off their NFL season on the road against the Arizona Cardinals Sunday. Kickoff is 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS) at State Farm Stadium. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Chiefs vs. Cardinals odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Chiefs bring a slightly new-look offense to 2022 after trading away speedy WR Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. They still have TE Travis Kelce, but have added receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster. They also lost 2 starting defensive backs in free agency.

The Cardinals inked QB Kyler Murray to a huge contract extension this offseason and added WR Marquise Brown to an already potent group of pass catchers. But they enter Week 1 with questions on defense due to a number of injuries.

Chiefs at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Chiefs 27, Cardinals 24

Money line

At the beginning of the week, I liked the Cardinals for the upset. They have continuity on offense and defense and face a Chiefs team having to adjust to the absence of Hill and half their starting secondary from a year ago.

However, with injuries on offense and uncertainty at cornerback for the game, there is far less confidence in the Cardinals being able to keep up.

The price to bet the Chiefs isn’t worth it. PASS.

Against the spread

The Chiefs still have questions on defense. They have a rookie starting at cornerback and don’t look like they will be any better against the run. The Cardinals have a full stable of running backs to control the tempo, even without 2 of their receivers, with DeAndre Hopkins suspended 6 games and the speedy Moore out with a hamstring injury.

They have speed in Brown and length with WR A.J. Green.

The question is whether they can limit the Chiefs offense. It is expected to be more methodical and less flashy in 2022.

I anticipate the Cardinals will still keep this game close.

Take the points and go with CARDINALS +6.5 (-112).

Over/Under

Expecting a healthy group of pass catchers on both teams and questions at cornerback for both Arizona and Kansas City, I initially expected a shootout. They would blow past that 53.5-point projected total and go into the 60s.

Now I believe things will be more methodical. Both teams will move the ball, but it will happen in longer, controlled drives.

Take UNDER 53.5 (-108).
