Panthers at Chiefs: Game notes

  • The Panthers are coming off a 25-17 loss at home against the struggling Atlanta Falcons in a Thursday game in Week 8. They’re on a three-game slide after a three-game win streak. The Panthers enter on a 3-0 ATS run on the road, however.
  • The Chiefs powered past the New York Jets by a 35-9 score in Week 8, covering a 20-point number. They have won and covered three in a row since a 40-32 home loss against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5.
  • Kansas City ranks fourth in the NFL in total yards (410.5), fourth in passing yards (286.4) and tied for second in points scored (31.6) per game. Defensively, the Chiefs are 10th in total yards (344.0), third in passing yards (201.3) and third in points scored (19.0) per game.
  • Chiefs RB Le’Veon Bell struggled against his former team last week, posting just seven rushing yards on six attempts, and he has just 46 rushing yards on 12 attempts in his two games with the reigning champs.
  • The Panthers are 4-0 ATS in their past four as underdogs, while the Chiefs are 9-1-1 ATS in their previous 11 at home and 4-0-1 ATS in their previous five against teams with a losing overall record.

Panthers at Chiefs: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Chiefs 37, Panthers 20

Money line (?)

The Chiefs (-556) should easily push past the Panthers (+420), even as the Cats get McCaffrey back for the first time since Week 2 due to a high-ankle sprain.

Risking more than five and a half times your potential return is just not good gambling, though. AVOID, and look to the spread.

Against the spread (?)

The CHIEFS -10.5 (-110) will have their hands full against a Panthers team which will be energized with the return of its biggest star. Still, Kansas City is at home and will be able to do enough to win this one by at least two touchdowns.

The Panthers are just middle of the road in total yards allowed at 357.4 per game, and they’ll struggle with QB Patrick Mahomes and this high-octane offense.

Over/Under (?)

OVER 52.5 (-110) is a strong play, as the Chiefs rank second in the NFL with 31.6 points per game, and they’ll be able to make life miserable for the Panthers D, which was dismal last Thursday against the Falcons.

The Chiefs have allowed 142.8 rushing yards per game, the Achilles’ heel of this D, and McCaffrey and company will be able to add to those uneven numbers. They won’t win, or even come close, but Carolina will be able to put points on the board before Kansas City pulls away in the second half.

Kansas City Chiefs huge home favorites vs. Carolina Panthers in Week 9

The Kansas City Chiefs are the betting favorites in their Week 9 home game with the Carolina Panthers.

The Kansas City Chiefs (7-1) welcome the Carolina Panthers (3-5) for a home game in their Week 9 matchup Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.  Below, we look at the early betting odds and lines at BetMGM Sportsbook.

The Panthers get a little extra rest for their game against the reigning champs after playing the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday Night Football in Week 8. Carolina’s offense struggled in its 25-17 loss as it passed for just 157 yards, converted on only 2-of-10 third downs and possessed the ball for 23:30.

Carolina’s betting records

  • Against the spread: 4-4 ATS
  • Over/Under: 3-5 O/U

It was business as usual for Kansas City in Week 8 as it effortlessly dismantled the New York Jets 35-9 covering as 19.5-point favorites. Patrick Mahomes had the best quarterback performance of Week 8: 31-42 for 416 passing yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Kansas City’s betting records

  • Against the spread: 6-2 ATS
  • Over/Under: 3-5 O/U

Chiefs at Broncos game notes

  • The Chiefs lost 40-32 at home to the rival Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5 but rebounded with a 26-17 road win over the Buffalo Bills last week.
  • The Broncos have won two straight games against AFC East teams on either side of a forced Week 5 bye. They beat the New York Jets 37-28 on Thursday Night Football in Week 4 and upset the New England Patriots 18-12 on the road in Week 6.
  • Broncos RB Melvin Gordon is expected to play this week. He missed last week’s game due to an illness and was charged with a DUI earlier in the week. RB Phillip Lindsay returned last week to rush for 101 yards.
  • Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has thrown for 15 touchdowns against just one interception. TE Travis Kelce and WR Tyreek Hill continue to be his top targets with 470 and 384 yards, respectively, through six games.
  • The Broncos are 29th in the NFL with just 20.0 points scored per game. The Chiefs average 29.2 PPG. Both teams are in the top 11 of the NFL in points allowed per game.

Chiefs at Broncos: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Chiefs 28, Broncos 10

Money line (?)

We’ll PASS on the money line as the Chiefs (-358) are laying too much chalk and the Broncos (+280) won’t be pulling the upset. Get the value of a Chiefs ATS pick in what will be a convincing road win.

Against the spread (?)

KANSAS CITY -7 (-115) is 4-2 ATS, while Denver (+7, -106) is 4-1 ATS in contrast to its 2-3 straight-up record, the Broncos are in for a rough outing Sunday.

The Chiefs have a plus-5 turnover differential with 7 interceptions on the year and the Broncos are minus-5 in the turnover margin with 8 picks thrown by QBs Lock, Jeff Driskel and Brett Rypien, including 2 thrown by Lock last week. The sophomore QB will make more mistakes in Week 7 while trying to keep pace and play catch up with Mahomes and the vaunted Chiefs offense.

This one busts open in the second half and the Chiefs win easily by multiple scores.

Over/Under (?)

The projected total of 43.5 is one of the lowest on the Week 7 slate. Still, take the UNDER 43.5 (-106) with the Broncos having been held to fewer than 20 points in three of five games. The Chiefs will build an early lead and look to run out the clock.
