The Auburn family wished Trovon Reed well as he leaves the Plains for his first on-field coaching job at UCF.
One of Auburn’s most important recruiters is leaving the Plains.
[autotag]Trovon Reed[/autotag], who has been Auburn’s director of football and player relations since 2022, has been hired by Gus Malzahn as UCF’s cornerbacks coach. It is Reed’s first on-field coaching job.
Reed played for Malzahn at Auburn from 2010-2014 and after a four-year NFL career, was hired by Auburn as a player relations coordinator in 2021. He was a key factor in helping Auburn land several top recruits and often spent time on the road recruiting whenever the Tigers’ had an opening on the coaching staff.
He is the third former Auburn player to join Malzahn’s coaching staff for the 2024 season, with [autotag]Kam Martin[/autotag] and [autotag]Nate Craig-Myers[/autotag] already in Orlando. The news shocked Auburn fans who took to social media to wish Reed well at UCF. Here is a look at some of the top reactions.

This former Auburn LB is set to take on his first FBS coaching job in his hometown.
The coaching tree of former Auburn football players is continuing to extend its branches.
The latest Auburn football alumni to join the FBS coaching ranks is a former standout under [autotag]Gus Malzahn[/autotag], [autotag]Tre Williams[/autotag].
According to FootballScoop.com, Williams is set to join Kane Wommack’s staff at South Alabama as the Jaguars’ special team coordinator. Although there is no deal in place yet, Football Scoop’s sources reveal that there is heavy smoke toward’s the rumor.
Williams has spent the last few years coaching high school football at Thompson High School in Alabaster, as well as serving as a graduate assistant under his former head coach at UCF. He earned his first full-time coaching job at Arkansas-Monticello, a Division II program, coaching linebackers and special teams.
As a player for Auburn from 2014-17, Williams recorded 188 total tackles, 10.0 being for loss. In 2017, he was named an All-SEC second-team selection after making 50 stops and 2.5 sacks.
Williams, a Mobile native, joins a rather growing list of former Tigers who are now coaching at the Division I level, including [autotag]Jonathan Wallace[/autotag] (Kansas), [autotag]Kam Martin[/autotag] (UCF), and [autotag]Deshaun Davis[/autotag] (North Alabama).
[autotag]Kam Martin[/autotag] is moving up in the coaching world. The former Auburn running back was hired by UCF to be their running backs coach, per Brandon Marcello of 247Sports.
The move reunites Martin with former Auburn head coach [autotag]Gus Malzahn[/autotag], who coached Martin at Auburn from 2016-19. Martin spent the 2021 season as a recruiting and offensive assistant for the Golden Knights.
Martin then spent the 2022 season as running backs coach at Incarnate Word. They had the highest-scoring offense and one of the best rushing attacks at the FCS level in his one season there. The Cardinals averaged 5.6 yards per carry and ran for 215.1 yards per game.
They set the program rushing record with 3,022 rushing yards and made it to the playoff semifinals before being eliminated.
He left Incarnate Word for Texas State on Dec. 19 to be their runnings back coach but will now be headed to Orlando.
Martin rushed for 1,564 yards and eight touchdowns in his four seasons on the Plains.
UCF has hired Texas State running backs coach Kam Martin for the same position, sources tell @247Sports. Martin played running back for Gus Malzahn at Auburn. https://t.co/nMKBgfQ18d

The Gus Malzahn coaching tree continues to extend its branches.
The [autotag]Gus Malzahn[/autotag] coaching tree continues to extend its’ branches.
[autotag]Kam Martin[/autotag], who played running back at Auburn for Malzahn from 2016-19 and became a member of his coaching staff at UCF, has landed a coaching job with a Football Bowl Subdivision program. Martin will serve as running backs coach for newly hired head coach G.J. Kinne at Texas State.
Martin follows Kinne from Incarnate Word, where he was the running backs coach during the 2022 season. During Martin’s time at IWU, the Cardinals went 12-2, which included a win over Football Bowl Subdivision participant Nevada. IWU running back Marcus Cooper rushed for 1,476 yards and 12 touchdowns during the 2022 season.
Kinne said Martin is a perfect fit for the position as running backs coach due to his success at playing the position at a high level.
“Kam is another great addition to Texas State and our coaching staff,” Kinne said in a press release. “He is Texas high school legend and great role model for our student-athletes. He knows the running back position because he played it at a high level and is a rising star in the profession.”
Martin rushed for 1,564 yards during his four-year career on the Plains, scoring eight touchdowns. He reunited with Malzahn at UCF in 2021 by joining his staff as a recruiting assistant before returning to his home state of Texas to become the running backs coach at Incarnate Word.
The history between Auburn and Arkansas started more recently than you would expect.
This past Saturday was a tale of two different football games for Arkansas and Auburn. Arkansas broke a 20-game losing streak with a 21-14 victory over 16th-ranked Mississippi State while Auburn laid a complete egg in an embarrassing loss to Georgia on the road.
Razorback fans are looking forward to this one, and yes it’s because they have bad blood about their former head coach Chad Morris (Auburn’s offensive coordinator) and former offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn (Auburn head coach).
The rivalry between Auburn and Arkansas is very fresh. The teams have only faced off 29 times with the first official meeting occuring on December 27, 1984 for the Liberty Bowl. The Tigers left that game victorious with a 21-15 victory under head coach Pat Dye and running back Bo Jackson was named game MVP with 88 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, and a 25-yard reception.
The Razorbacks are now a recurring conference opponent on Auburn’s schedule after leaving the Southwest Conference and joining the SEC on August 1, 1990.
History has been on the Tigers’ side ever since. Auburn leads the series 17-11-1 and are currently riding on a four-game winning streak. That four-game streak started at the hands of Auburn’s largest margin of victory in the series back in 2016.
The 2016 box score for Auburn is ridiculous. Quarterback Sean White finished 6-11 in passing for 77 yards and 1 touchdown. The backfield went absolutely berzerk here. Kamryn Pettway led Auburn in rushing with 27 carries for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns, current Auburn wide receiver Eli Stove had 3 carries for 94 yards and 1 touchdown, and Kam Martin finished the game with 7 carries for 87 yards and 1 touchdown. The Tigers ultimately won the game 56-3.
Another notable game occurred during Auburn’s 2010 national championship run. The Razorbacks and the Tigers engaged in a good, old-fashioned shoot-out which the Tigers ultimately came out with a 65-43 victory (defense, anyone?) thanks in large part to 328 total yards from future Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton.
As of right now BetMGM has Auburn as a 16.5 (did they catch that game last week or…) favorite against the Razorbacks. I’m here to tell y’all that this game will most likely be a lot closer than that and that the stats you’ve read from the series’ prior history will not be repeated this weekend.
