Kain Medrano discusses UCLA defense after beating Hawaii

Kain Medrano spoke to the media after the UCLA win.

One of the leaders on the defensive side of the ball, Kain Medrano discussed after the game the importance of the Bruins to lock in for the second half of the season. The Bruins allowed 10 points in the first half of the game, but the team trailed 10-0.

In the second half, the Bruins allowed just a third-quarter field goal, including getting a big turnover, forcing several punts, and getting a huge fourth-down stop.

Medrano was second on the squad in tackles. He had 7 in the game. K.J. Wallace led the team with nine tackles, including a sack. The Bruins finished the game with four sacks. Ramon Henderson was the Bruins defender with the interception.

After the game, Medrano spoke about the performance, per Tracy McDannald of Rivals.

“We just knew we had to lock in on defense and just be more disciplined and hone in on the details of all of our coverages. We were relying too much on the run game in the second half and that was kind of a point of emphasis.”

Medrano is a redshirt senior from Pueblo Colorado. He has been with the Bruins since the spring of 2019. He started all 13 games a season ago and is known as the leader of the squad.

The Bruins will take Week 2 off, before they play their home opener against Indiana on September 14th.
