UFC on ESPN 62 results: Mairon Santos folds Kaan Ofli with violent knockout to win ‘TUF 32’

THAT’S how you announce your arrival to the UFC and assert yourself as “The Ultimate Fighter.”

“The Ultimate Fighter 32” bracket officially wrapped up Saturday with its final fights live as part of the UFC on ESPN 62 fight card.

The series concluded Tuesday, just in time for the reveal of the competitors who would compete Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The first final was at featherweight and it ended in devastating fashion as [autotag]Mairon Santos[/autotag] crushed [autotag]Kaan Ofli[/autotag] with an ultra-violent knockout at : of Round 2.

Santos (15-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) defeated Edwin Cooper Jr. and Guillermo Torres by unanimous decision in exhibition bouts on the series to punch his ticket to the finale. Prior to being casted on the reality show, Santos competed on the Brazilian regional scene before a couple fights under the LFA banner.

Ofli (11-3-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) earned wins over Nathan Fletcher and Roedie Roets on the series prior to Saturday’s final. He entered the UFC as the Hex Fight Series featherweight champion and hadn’t lost since June 2016. An eight-fight winning streak was snapped.

Kaan Ofli vs. Mairon Santos UFC on ESPN 62 preview

In the semifinals, he stopped Roedie Roets by first-round submission. … Santos (13-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) picked up a pair of decision wins in the TUF house. Kaan Ofli vs. Mairon Santos UFC on ESPN 62 expert pick, prediction

This Saturday’s card features two finales from this season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” and Ofli will take on Santos for the featherweight portion of the show.

Both of these fighters are incredibly tough and deceptively well-rounded, so I’m curious to see how they’ll show out on the big stage now that they’re off the reality show and back with their original camps and corners.

I’ll be a bit biased toward Santos since he’s been training in my backyard of Xtreme Couture here in Las Vegas since departing the show, working with noted MMA coach Eric Nicksick. That said, Ofli can be a difficult fighter to look good against and the smaller cage should assist his grinding style.

I’m not sure if Santos can produce a stoppage in this spot, but I believe that his camp will have him well-prepared for the grind that’s coming his way.

I’ll pick Santos to win a competitive decision by landing the more meaningful blows in space and in closed quarters.

On the Doorstep: 5 fighters who could make UFC with August wins

For those who make it to the highest stage, the journey starts long before they strap on UFC gloves.

Every champion in MMA history started out somewhere.

For those who make it to the highest stage, the journey begins long before they strap on UFC, Bellator or PFL gloves. Modern-era fighters progress through the regional ranks with hopes of accomplishing the highest accolades. Many will try, few will succeed.

This month, five fighters on the verge of achieving major promotion notoriety – one for the second time – return to the cage for what could be their stepping-stone fight. There are dozens of fighters close to making the jump in the coming weeks, but these five are particularly exemplary.

  • After a near two-year hiatus, one of the best flyweight prospects in the world is back and hopes to join his teammates Aljamain Sterling and Merab Dvalishvili in the UFC.
  • An Australian regional champion hopes to be the next from City Kickboxing to take a step up to the UFC.
  • A relentless Oklahoma-born up-and-comer looks to notch a win over a UFC alumnus and hopefully head to the big show thereafter.
  • Piling up win after win, a Kazakh flyweight angles to be the next in an influx of fighters from his country headed to the UFC.
  • One of the top pound-for-pound fighters in Texas had to rebuild against a loss to a top-tier opponent in 2023. Back on track, he hopes a win streak leads him into the UFC.
